My god this is the highest levels of guitar playing ! First he plays it smoothly builds it up than he explodes like a giant volcano 🌋 ! Highest levels of guitar playing right here ladies and gentlemen can’t go higher than this ! Pat you are truly the greatest jazz guitar player of all times it’s so deep beautiful touches the souls pure divine ! Your improvisation takes us with you over the horizon ! Bad ass bass playing as well 🎸 👑 🙏 🙌
You got this remark spot on! The progression indeed was picturesque yet fully emotive and genius!
Pat Metheny is a guitar hero and legend! He has been one for a looong time at that.
My favorite version. I’ve seen this live 3 or 4 times. Always beautiful.
Steve Rodby's solo is superb 5:39!
One of my all time favorite jazz standards 💓💓💓
One of the best guitar solo ever heard, and bass too.
Yes Steve Rodby is rocking!!!
I love how even quotes Emily Remler in this....RIP lyle, Emily....etc. and all the greats we have lost recently....chick, Allan, etc. ....
Pour moi Pat Metheny est le meilleur Guitariste au Monde ! Personne ne lui arrive à la cheville !💯🤠💫
I used to not understand why people put stuff on Facebook about lost fathers and mothers..... like they were trying to talk to them.....pretty silly.
Well, now I have lost my old man and I think I understand why some people feel the need. Its just to let it out, to let others know that they miss them. That they were so important in their lives and now are gone.
Of course Im not going to put something on my Facebook page but since Pat and his music have helped me so much over a life time I figured why not here?
The old man was 83 and lived a great life, drank and ate everything and anything he wanted. This was a man who did the Detroit to Mackinaw race as a younger man. A man of adventure and strength. If you think of Humphrey Bogart then you have a good idea of how cool, stoic and smart this guy was. Miss you Dad.
If you read this and your Dad is still around go see him and have a drink with him for me.
Billy...terribly sorry to hear about your dad. Wonderful words.
Yo Jason,.
Just saw your note, thanks buddy.
Im trying to figure out how to condense my calender and use just one and then the info gets shared with iphone/ipad and Yahoo calenders.
I think the Yahoo one is making it difficult
Other than that...Im sitting at library trying to get some work done,. I dont often come here but the new dog ate a library book and I needed to pay for it.
Jennier is home wth Avery who turns 3 next month.
Life is going along as you can imagine.
Still waiting on that thing to get done....Jeezzzzz you would think lawyers where getting paid by the hour!!!!
hope all is cool and you and the little girl ar good.
You still at the JOB? Not sure if you found a new gig.
I´ll do it, tomorrow is father´s day! Thx for the comment, Billy.
The greatest musician of our life time !!!
Couldn't agree more
In his second solo, Pat reached simply the perfection.
Bruno I agree with you. I listen to this version so often. It is OUTSTANDING.
Pat should play this version in every show , note by note , all are perfect and wonderful !
That goes against the very essence of live jazz. The beauty of live jazz is that it is not scripted and musicians feed off each other and audience, and create something new on the spot.
One of the finest interpretation of Jobim's wonderful song I heard in my life.Technique and feeling dosed supreme. I had the blessing to see this presentation in October 1993 here in Campinas, Brazil. One of the biggest thrills of my life. Thanks and long live Pat and Jorgel.
Such an amazing piece of music!
La tecnica y el sentimiento unidos insuperable interpretación
Paul Wertico is so underrated!
Seriously: I deeply adore his drumming!
Wonderful comment about 'Paul'. Couldn't agree more.
By the way, Neil, you have a fantastic channel. Would love to hear you do a 'Barry Galbraith' variation one of these days.
I love Wertico! Amazing.
This is absolutely by far the best peace of performance ever to be! Simply subliminal
If love were a tune, this would be her.
This is stupidly good!

Liza Chen Hello Liza, thx for the comment. Nice to share our love for Pat's music!!
+Jorge Luis Garcia I was born with pat´s music inside :D. I really love his music.
Just about the only cover I've heard Metheny do... but it's a lovely, lilting song that suits his spirit and style.
So beautiful ~!!!!!
its about time somebody put the whole thing on here. its fucking amazing.
This amazingly smooth minimalist guitar reminds me why I despise jazz piano. Bravo Metheny.

10'36'' Pat quotes I'll Never Fall In Love Again by Bacharach. "What do you get when you fall in Love?"
Chris Williamson excellent observation and reference especially for the Secret Story tour.
This is Genius.....! : )
@heavypearls Hi Hell, he is Steve Rodby. He joined the Pat Metheny Group in 1981.

@def2008 No, it isn't Lyle Mays on keyboards...
standard slick pat....
let us update some... he's still here. he still is fun... I read recently read a fan of his, Pat's, say he was done with Pat's music because he, Pat, supported Black Lives Matter... I gave it a tug... Yes, Pat is still, always has been, a master... he never never finished this or that, like Shakespeare, he was there early already competent, so thank you for your music and knowing you would lose fans with your salute of BLM...I am not black or matter, I do play guitar, however Brian Eno, I want to say... we will be corrected, Trump will vanish, and Pat's tunes will stand. Just like my brother Terry and I getting a free meal from Mormons in Utah... it was sound. We never told them we went to Catholic schools, and yet, didn't believe in God at all for ever... Lesson: hold thy tongue. Be a friend. Stand tall. Hug a Jesuit....then tell him, well, it's okay. We can be friends. We're Irish.
Maybe you should rethink posting replies while drunk or stoned
💚😆🌼
"That's what you get when you fall in love", nice touch
Tom Jobim / Insensatez....
That's the way Jobin named his piece Insensatez in english... I don't see him as a "Some idiot translator"... BTW they were friends and they played the piece together and Mr. Jobim sang it in english an the lyrics are:
How insensitive
I must have seemed
When she told me that she loved me
How unmoved ...... look for it:
How Insensitive - Pat Metheny & Antonio Carlos Jobim in You Tube
so next time you made a critic try to know something about what you are criticizing...
Antônio C Jobim RIP 1994
Hey Jorgel thank you for uploading this. I listen to this version for maybe around 10 years now. It is very special to me. Do you know where can I get the whole concert? Hugs :)
4:27 omg...
3:12 the licc
El wn seco, la cagó.
The lick at 3.12
lol..
haha, just listened to this and thought the same thing.
By God himself
3:50
2:26
Actually I prefer the more evocative interpretation of this Tom Jobim song with António Sanchez on the drums in Korea a few years later. Pat is more on top of the song in that interpretation!
4:02
Warning: High level of Virtuosity.
@JackSchytt is this your first time hearing this?
Yikes. Listening to this is like being high.
Это БОГИ!!!
Este chico destruye las canciones
Yes, that's a toothbrush.
Esta claro, no son de este planeta.
this is some really good shit.
were you there?
or where did you find this?
that's ok because now i have it.
: )
Can't stop listen to this over and over.
Pure beauty.
If only he could quit made those moron expressions while playing...
Many guitarists make the facial expressions....
Of course, the title of this Tom Jobim classic - Insensatez - was butchered when inepttedy translated to English. It should have been translated as "How Unsensible" which is entirely different. Some idiot translator got away with murder!
Really??? You must not have much of a life to post such nonsensensical gibberish
Jesus, more rubbish Jazz from "look how clever I am" Metheny. Horrible, boring Crapola. A group of musicians all playing a different tune at the same time.
