- I made an Instagram post last year that was well received and thought that I would take to CZcams to make an updated video. I will explain all the parts of a DIY salt lick, the cost, and what exactly the different ingredients provide to the deer as far as nutrition. Also, as always, be sure to check out your local hunting regulations to make sure that you are following any laws associated with putting out a salt lick. Thanks for checking out my first kick at CZcams.

Good stuff buddy. Might have to give it a try
Thanks! And you can always add your own attractant to!
This is the exact same recipe that a wildlife biologist gave me in fact I have it wrote down , mixing salt, Trace mineral salt, and di-calcium phosphate a good mix is 8 cups of Trace 8 cups of stock mixing salt and four cups of di-calcium that makes enough for one site and you get a lot of sights out of the amount you've got in front of you.
You have to be careful with the di-cal and don't use too much because it is very bitter.
In case anyone wants to know the biologist name is Jeremy Starks
what do you do? just dump the powder out into the field? isnt there a way to "solidifies" it?
Have you considered using this as a corn coat? Maybe combine it with baking soda, powdered sugar, and adding that in the mix then coating your corn with that?
Never have thought about it but I may give it a try. I have been wanting to experiment with adding baking soda to the mix for a little while now. Thanks for viewing!
I’ll be ordering all of that tonight but I’ll get three times the quantity!
For anyone looking for a cheap attractant that will help bring the deer to the mineral site. I have seen other content where people used Kool-Aid powder bought from the dollar store. Figured it was worth a try!
Definitely add 2 boxes grape kool-aid power and 2 large box strawberry jello powder and box baking soda
Expensive where ur at , here stock salt and trace mineral is 7 a bag and ducal is around 25 a bag , I usaully also use some type of cattle mineral also with vitamins
Where are you at? I used to do it in Ontario and im pretty sure it was a bit cheaper there.

@@josephbennett4442 yah. For sure here in Canada it will be much more unfortunately for us lol
I can’t find dicalcium that cheap
TSC doesn’t have any
I’m in south Texas
Probably need to go to a regular feed and feed store or co-op if you got one in the area you can also order it online
I gave up trying to find it (di-cal) so I use cattle mineral with a minimum 6% phosphorous. I also hit the site with something "sweet" after I put the mix down. Buck Jam persimmon is great.
You actually need two bags of trace mineral salt if you are doing a 1:1:2 ratio.
That is correct. In this case we weren't making the mixture all at once as it would be far more than we need. If your going to make it all up at once a second bag would be needed.
U don't show results. Heck I mean anybody can just mix up some crap .
The reason I have not shown any results is because there are numerous other videos out there demonstrating this mix that also show results. This was simply for demonstrating the mixture for the Canadian crowd and understanding what it actually is used for.
