Horrible list
@@AFR0MAMBA Yeah I agree. Number one obviously should've been The Room.
Terminator 2 -Judgement Day and Saving Private Ryan should be on the list.
I agree. Someone without balls made the list
"Back to the Future" should have had an honorable mention.
Totally! It's my favorite movie of all time. I literally saw it like 5 times at the theater when it came out. I was 10 years old. I was always interested in stories from my mom and gram about things they did when they were kids and what it was like in what I called...the olden days. My mom always got a kick out of me using that phrase.
also back to the future 2, god that movie was so good
@@jaceuhn8497 Most definitely! I had my gramma take me to see part 1 sooo many times when it came out. I remember seeing the preview for part 2 in an actual theater!! I told my gramma and she put the premiere date on her calendar. I actually enjoy part 3 too. I know a lot of people didnt like it but I still watch it. I do Back to the Future marathons about 2 times a year🙂🙂🙂
@@missangiemissangiemissaaaa1280 i don’t really get why people don’t like part 3, it was pretty good as well
All of these movies are classics, and thanks to my film class, I've seen nearly half of these picks, and analysed them all to pieces!
Same💯💯💯💯
My list (not in order):
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Pulp Fiction
- The Godfather
- Taxi Driver
- Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
- The Wizard of Oz
- Indiana Jones (Original Trilogy)
- Life is Beautiful
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy
- Titanic
Good list. Should see the trilogy
Yes Pulp Fiction and Taxi Driver!
That entire list is just too obvious though. EXCEPT for Life is Beautiful. Excellent choice. That movie is incredible and definitely needs to be seen by any movie fan
Nice list. I recommend that you watch 'interstellar'.
Schindler's list
Agree...and add Dances With Wolves, Home Alone, The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Omen (original), Goodfellas, Titanic, The Notebook, Grease, and Amadeus.
Yes, Nicholson & Travolta!!!
Some other choices:
Rashomon: The film that did what you professed Parasite did (opened up Asian cinema to a wider audience) and it also led to the creation of the best foreign film category and influenced films such as Memento and The Usual Suspects.
Double Indemnity - arguably the best film noir.
Persona - ground zero for art house identity crisis. The predecessor of 3 Women and Mulholland Drive.
Paris, Texas - German New Wave comes to America (I know part of The American Friend was filmed in NYC) and climaxes with one of the best double monologues ever put to film.
Lawrence of Arabia - one of the 2 greatest epics ever made. The other being Seven Samurai
Taxi Driver - it's influence is still being felt today. Nightcrawler would be a good recent example.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - won the big 5 Oscars. Has 2 incredible lead performances and one of the greatest endings of all time.
I would put Double Indemnity over Maltese Falcon for sure. MF was 'okay' but not as strong as others. Good call. Not sure if The Third Man counts as Noir, but I would consider that over Maltese Falcon as well.
Rashomon is classic. Based on Ryounosuke Akutagawa's short story (One of the most prestigeous Japanese literary awards carry his name) adapted by Kurosawa for larger audinces, including those abroad. Great call.
Shawshank redemption, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Titanic, Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump, Schindler's list and 12 Angry Men. Are some of my favorites that I think everybody should see once. Still really enjoyed the video watch mojo.
I don't understand the hype over Forrest Gump. It was like a long film about pure luck of a dumb but golden hearted man. I was thoroughly disappointed with this film and would rather watch anything else than Forrest Gump once again. :/
Schindler's list - watched it, will never watch again. :/ It's great but emotional wrecker.
I'd also probably add Green Mile as one of those films that you can only watch once, if you are on the sensitive side of life.
@@marikothecheetah9342 it wasn’t luck. He just did what he was told. And that is what got him through life.
Titanic gets worse in every viewing, sorry to disagree.
everyone has different lists, but your list was pretty good. I would take out a few and add a few that I felt changed my perception on movies. Matrix, Avatar, Ready Player One, Aladdin (animated), Twister, Final Destination, Saving Private Ryan, Spider-man and may even throw in Top Gun Maverick....because that movie does stuff I have never seen before.
(Awkward laughter) Actually, I watched Final Destination 3 various times when I was a teen

Plus I'm already a HUGE Star Wars fan so I've seen ALL of the movies u on the other hand may not have but that's NOT my problem.
‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ is still one of the best martial arts movies ever made.
One of the best films ever made regardless of the genre.
Even so, I'd put Hero in its place for some of the fights, as well as taking narrative cues from Kurosawa's Rashomon. Any one of Ikiru, Ran or Rashomon could have been in place of Seven Samurai, and I wouldn't have complained. I would have thought something like Tokyo Story or Seventh Seal could have been on here too, as they're both critics' favourites.
Not better than Hero.
Saw that three times
I would still favor “Enter The Dragon” but crouching Tiger hidden Dragon did gave us Michelle Yeoh. A huge ICON!
@@megalon73 Agreed. And Michelle yeoh is just a natural beauty.
Even now. But crouching tiger should not be on this list. There are way more enjoyable movies in that genre.
"12 Angry Men" must be included in this list
Nobody played an angry man better than Lee J. Cobb.
Some you guys missed.... IMHO...
The Green Mile
Forest Gump
The Color Purple
The Shawshank Redemption
The Shining
Saving Private Ryan
Schindler's List
Most of Tom Hank's films qualify imo and movies based on Stephen King novels 😁
great and myb some movie where is kevin spacey like american beauty
Wow, I've actually seen every single one of these films. Good list!
These lists are always interesting (and personal), and you did a nice job of narrowing it down to 20. Always glad to see what others consider their favorites. I'm glad you didn't confine yourself to more contemporary films, and even included a foreign film. My own personal top 20 would include more foreign films (at the very least, Bergman's The Seventh Seal and Truffaut's Jules and Jim); in addition, I would definitely have to add Dr. Strangelove, Network (because what seemed like outrageous satire is all coming true!), and Goodfellas. And one more that probably not too many have seen: Spike Lee's Bamboozled, which make be the most uncomfortable movie you will ever see, but is also the most trenchant and uncompromising look at racism in the entertainment industry.
I'd say The Farewell could be one cause of it's sad yet heart warming story and cause for me it is where I learned about the difference in cultural views of when someone is dying. How in America we tell the person they are dying, but in some other countries they don't
12 angry men not in the list surprises me

@@hirynanasarian 1957… the classic version
Pulp Fiction, Blazing Saddles, Shawshank Redemption, Full Metal Jacket, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Wilder is the ultimate Wonka), Casino, Wolf of Wall Street.

He seemed so young in _10 Things I Hate About You,_ Disney’s take on the William Shakespeare comedy, meaning a story with a happy ending, in this case, _The Taming of the Shrew._ The basis for the original is that once the sharp-tongued Katherina is married, Bianca, her younger and much more polite sister, can follow suit, as dictated by their father. Hailing from Verona, Kate’s suitor, Petruchio, does everything he can to win Kate over: allowing her as little sleep as possible, destruction of personal property, you name it. This may have been the norm in the Bard’s time, but at least _10 Things_ didn’t take it *that* far.

It's a good one. Probably the best single superhero movie.
I wouldn't say that
Strange. I'm a fan, but to me, it was the one that clearly didn't belong on this list.
It's a great movie, no doubt, but I'm not sure what someone would really be "missing" by not seeing it. It didn't have the cultural or filmmaking impact of movies like The Matrix, T2, Schindler's List, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Raiders, etc.

Okay that's it - I need to finally get to Modern Times and Singin' in the Rain. Great list!
I love Gone with the Wind. I wonder if anyone else of my generation appreciates the film like I do.
The Godfather is one of the few films that I would say is literally perfect. Others include The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, King Kong (the original), The Wizard of Oz, the original Star Wars, The Shining, Psycho, The Princess Bride, and The Adventures of Robin Hood.
I'd personally add the original Jurassic Park
I love all the titles on your list, except for King Kong
personally i found the shining to be really boring
The original King Kong is basically a stop-motion, therefore an unrealistic motion of the creature so I disagree. Peter Jackson's 2005 remake is far better than the original with the use of better technology.
Also the Lord of the Rings trilogy I would consider as being in that category of perfection.

I'd also like to add to this list ... "Alien," a great film for sci-fi fans and anyone who enjoys a good haunted house story ... "Ghostbusters," for being original and funny ... "Back to the Future," for being one of the most original films of its time, funny and heartwarming and adventurous all at once. I also have to add "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan" because of how it brought some serious darkness and human depth to the crew of the Enterprise. Damn, while I'm at it, I'm surprised that "Jaws" didn't make the cut here, as it is an incredibly effective horror film that also bears the distinction of being something that could actually happen, thereby scaring the crap out of anyone thinking about going out for a swim at the beach.

There is a good reason for most of them not being here. Saw? You have got to be kidding
I've seen 17 of these (missing SEVEN SAMURAI, PSYCHO, and THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY). And while I'd put 2001 at the top, all of these are certainly among the greatest of all time!
Being a Gen X and having grandparents who I had a chance to watch all of the movies that were mentioned before 60s and glad you didn't make it about newer ones I respect that and thank you for it.
Great list! Covering the greats of cinema. I would have preferred Rear Window or Vertigo to Psycho…but thats a quibble. The only movie I would add to this is Les Enfants Du Paradis, arguably the greatest French film of all time. Epic in scope and highly romantic in style, it was amazingly shot during Nazi occupation, which makes it all the more stupendous.
I wouldn’t mind if all three of those you just mentioned were on the list LOL😁 Both Vertigo and Psycho are in my top 3 favorite movies……..
Surprised Star Wars was on the list because everyone will watch Star Wars at some point in their life. I thought of this as a list of films that people may have missed seeing or haven't bothered to see but should. To that end, To Kill A Mockingbird should have been on this list as well as Casablanca. The acting in Mockingbird is outstanding and Casablanca is one of the most perfect scripts you'll ever come across. A perfect lesson in story telling.
I mean, I dunno if To Kill a Mockingbird is a must see, but the book is definitely a must read. And yeah, Casablanca is in the top 3 for me in the greatest screenplays ever made
@@errwhattheflip Try watching To Kill A Mockingbird with the audio off. Of course it's beautifully written and acted, but with the audio off you may see how beautifully this film was shot. The setup, the camera moves, the lighting etc. Please try it and you may change your mind.

Rosemary's Baby...NOPE!!!
I think "Alien" should be part of this list.
I agree - that movie has gone on to bring us so much more in all following Alien movies. We just need a longer list. Anyone could make a top 20 list. This really needs to be a top 100 list. So many amazing movies not mentioned.
That's SO True - like the top 20 guitarists of all time - It's gonna leave out SO MANY PEOPLE that SHOULD Also Be Known. Oh well - we weren't expecting perfection when we hit the button anyways. Still, good to know a couple movies I haven't seen, so I have some things to look forward to watching. Peace!!
This is Cinefix's work! They'll get it done.
I’ve seen The Breakfast Club, Singin’ In the Rain, The Dark Knight, Toy Story, The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Star Wars: A New Hope, and The Wizard of Oz
Y’all forgot bout Scarface
What in the world do you have against Spielberg? The fact that not one of his movies made the list is an absolute farce. I could think of maybe 4 or 5 alone that should be there.
Very good list, marred by the GLARING omissions of Pulp Fiction (absolutely essential for film - and culture - of the last 30 years) and Citizen Kane, which I was POSITIVE would be #1. These are both very disappointing, especially considering how good the rest of the list is. ETA: you really need to have either Snow White or The Little Mermaid in there, too. I'm not a big fan, but Disney animation is absolutely essential to the film experience.
I'd also add The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Bride of Frankenstein, but I would not have expected these.
What, no Spaceballs? Hehe
Forrest Gump would be one of my top choices.
I've seen 11 of these (and Wizard of Oz is one of my fav movies ♥). The thing is I know I've seen The Dark Knight and Star Wars, but I don't remember them quite well. Almost as if I haven't seen them. Same goes for Fellowship, although I remember more of it because I've read the first book lol.
U dont remember joker's performance!?
I would add 'Blade Runner'
and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
Yes I also would have added Blade Runner, but there was already 2 sci fi pics in there…so y’know balance…..
There are also some movies that everybody should see once because they are alluded to so often by other film makers and TV producers. And I don't mean just famous quotes or one-liners; I mean more along the lines of reading The Bible and Shakespeare, both are quoted all the time in order to clarify a scene or evoke an emotion. It's the same with iconic scenes from movies that get re-enacted over and over to cast the mood or make a specific point -- if you haven't seen those classic movies, all the copy-cat scenes, along with their underlying emotions, will fly right over your head. "Psycho" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" would fit into this list for sure, and always "The Wizard of Oz", just to name a few. In fact, you should make a list of movies that have timeless, iconic scenes that get copied all the time in other movies and tv shows!!
On this list would have to be "The Graduate" starring Dustin Hoffman, Katharine Ross, and Anne Bancroft as the infamous Mrs. Robinson. Without too much spoiling, there's a church scene gets redone ALL the time, and not too far behind you'll see a seductive Mrs. Robinson type of scene, or more often probably, an inference. Sometimes a movie will just use the song "Mrs. Robinson", by Simon & Garfunkel, to make its point.
Another is "Terms of Endearment" starring Shirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, and Debra Winger. Won 5 Oscars (11 nom's): Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (MacLaine), Best Supporting Actor (Nicholson), and Best Adapted Screenplay. (I'd like to give Jeff Daniels an honorary mention for his role--I thought he was phenomenal.) There's one hospital scene that is still, constantly being re-enacted! I swear I see some sort of copy-cat almost once a month, and it's been 40 years!
Casa Blanca is another. I'm sure I'll think of 5 more as soon as I post this. So there might be an addendum, or two.
Already! haha. "The Matrix"! It is getting referred to more and more every year as physicists delve deeper into quantum realities and multiple dimensions--is "reality" actually some sort of holographic projection of our thoughts? You heard me--it's no longer "fringe" science. If you know the basics of chemistry and physics, then you know that atoms are 99.999% 'empty' space and about 0.001% physical material. Right? From The Matrix: "do you take the blue pill or the red pill?" is becoming part of our everyday lexicon. Cultures across the globe are evolving at an accelerated pace. So if you don't know what The Matrix is all about, you'll want to catch up.
MATRIX masterpiece
You missed The Sound of Music. It ran in theatres for almost two years.
How is Schindlers List not on here but Toy Story is
That's a solid argument for this list being much longer.
The only problem with "Schindler's List"
is a big one: it should've been in German,
with preferred language subtitles.
@@laustcawz2089 I agree with you but I think just the context as well as it been largely a true story easily make it one you should watch
The only movie on this list that I have yet to see is Parasite.
Don’t ask me to pick a favourite among these films though…they are all wonderful representations of Cinema.
Cheers. 🇨🇦
Watch it!
@@106andie Ok…it’s on my list!!! 😀🇨🇦
Nice List

The Lion King
Rosemary's Baby
The Wizard of Oz
Goodfellas
Breakfast at Tiffany's
The Exorcist
Office Space
The Notebook
Titanic
Split
Forrest Gump
Crash
... Im sure I missed a few
The original Planet of the apes, was a captivating movie I would like to see on the list
Good list
I'm surprised Titanic was not on the list since WatchMojo loves Titanic so much! 😂❤️❤️❤️
Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie ❤️
Life of of Pi should be on this list and is a highly underrated film
Agree
other then Parisite i have seen all of these,

1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade & Radiers of the Lost Ark
2. Titanic (James Cameron version)
3. Infinity Wars/Endgame
4. Terminator 1 and 2
5. the 1986 Transformers Animated movie -- so much better then any live action Transformer movie
6. Spiderman (Tobby's 1st one)
7. a 1984 animated japanese movie called "Macross: Do you remember Love" - just watch it for the animation alone, but you also get a good story for it's time

10. Jurassic Park (1st one only)
11. Jaws
12. Saving Private Ryan
Watch parasite bro
Close Encounters of the Third Kind doesn't even get an honorable mention? Game changing movie that had a huge influence not only in cinema but popular culture. And that theme...
Do a list of video games you have to play at least once, please Mojo❤✊
The Peter Jackson LOTR movies, in my personal opinion
I've seen 9 of these. I got to see "Gone With the Wind" and "The Exorcist" in the theater when they were re-released in the late 90's. Both were incredible on the big screen.
I hope United 93 gets re released for its 20th Anniversary in 2026, it deserves to be re released
I think the pirates of the Caribbean trilogy should get a shoutout here
I would definitely say "12 angry men"
I've seen all of these except Modern Times and Singing In The Rain and I didn't love any of them. Not sure I even liked majority of them.
Here's my list:
Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs
Trainspotting
12 Angry Men
Back To The Future
Inception or Memento
Everything Everywhere All At Once
The Deer Hunter
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
A Clockwork Orange
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Whiplash
Alien
Schindler's List
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood
Shaun of the Dead
Grave of the Fireflies
Bo Burnham: Inside
Thunder Road
Fargo
Pan's Labyrinth
Two to consider:
- M by Fritz Lang. His first Talkie. The cinematography and story line (dealing with a child murderer, and what equates to justice with the police vs. organized crime) were ahead of their time.
- Night of the Hunter by Charles Loughton. Robert Mitchum is terrifying in it, and it was an example of a surrealist approach to filming that was panned initially because it wasn't understood. Now it's seen as a classic.
Both great
The Wizard of Oz you have to see twice. Once normal. Once with Pink Floyd.
Oh HELL YEAH:
"Dark Side Of The Moon"
(2nd Side, THEN 1st.)
My (you have to see) not mentioned here, list:
-Metropolis
-TRON (First CGI Movie)
-The Shawshank Redemption
-The Thing
-Schindler's List
-Papillon
-The Green Mile
- Come and See (Very realistic movie, not for the faint hearted. Not easy to find.
-Breaking Bad (yes series) El Camino and Better Call Soul
- Pulp Fiction
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
-The Silence of the Lambs
-IT
-ALIEN
-The Shining
-Nosferatu 1922!
- The Pianist (Adrien Brody's best roll ever!
-Reservoir Dogs
If wanted, I'm glad to add more "best movies ever"
W list
It's not just Fellowship of the Ring, the entire 3 movie in the LOTR trilogy is a must watch atleast once. Masterpiece and perfect from start to finish, an incredible 12 hour story
BOOOOOOORINNNNG.
I agree, it's my favorite trilogy.
@@JERM92 💯💯
Return to the King is my favorite
I would also add The Princess Bride, and one film from mel brooks (really any film) as well as a Monty Python film too
Thanks Mojo for showing me that Europe and South America have never had a film industry.
Sadly I'm spoiled by color-vision moviez, seriez and special effects, so I have trouble enjoying b&w movies, ofc with exceptions.
And ofc must-see movie choices are very subjective, I like old westerns and bud spencer & terence hill movies a lot mostly because I watched them as kid with my father who passed away 20yrs ago.
What's the best watchlist-sharing site so I can find people with the same taste and find must-see-movies I haven't seen yet? IMDB?
Thanks :))
Sadly you missed the following all time greatest :
The Lawrence Of Arabia
Jurassic Park
The Inception
The Gladiator
The Schindler's List
Saving Private Ryan
The Titanic
