Maybe it depends on how much they rely on Yhwach and their will when they die? The more subservient, the more it takes? I'd have to really think about it tbh
I think your theory on why Robert was stripped to the bone is right. Gerald I think doesn’t make for a good example of the same thing because I always believed that The Miracle is able to keep him alive but I think his new body he generates becomes mostly Reishi at that point so once the Auswählen hit him all that was literally left of him was his bones because the Miracle was truly the only thing keeping him alive in this state.
Bazz B maybe survived it cause of willpower not to die? Yeah his is really odd to think of an answer for. XD
If I could have changed how it worked, oh boi first off my main man wouldn't have died Gerard muthafukin Valkyrie, second I would made it only take the life of Quincies it hit and taken the powers of those it missed. I feel like u certainly have a point when it comes to how it killed some Quincys but I always had the interpretation that when the light hits u then u can’t go into holy form because it’s now stolen from you that’s the power yhwach gave but when it comes to shrifts that those were the powers that the soul manifested using the blessing they got from yhwach so that would not be taken but their life would be shortened but yea definitely inconsistent on how they were murdered

maybe it depends on a person remaining life force , Robert was pretty old. and Yhwach can control how much life force he wants to drain, so in the first Auswahlen he only took what he needed to revive the Schutzstaffel , but in the last one he needed as much power as he can get to separate the 3 worlds so everyone died.

With Gerald it made the most sense to me? Because his power was literally holding him together, so him losing it kills him. Same probably would've happened to Lille. Robert's power, whatever it was, probably also kept him alive, hence his death. Giselle didn't get hit but she probably also would've died considering how much the Zombie effected her.
I still don't like it the power dies instantly despite her powers to not doing anything life-sustaining the cast was too big for Kubo to work with and needed them gone
@@tonyinfinite5174 I think in CFYOW it was revealed she was on death's door from Liltotto fighting her and then Mayuri just finished her and Candice to zombify them.
Pretty close to what I think as well. If you look back at how Yhwach's power initially worked, he was "healing" folks with the pieces of his soul. Then when they died, he got those pieces back (along with whatever "strength" the recipients had acquired). If we assume that Bob had been "healed" by Yhwach's soul fragment, and that when he was struck, that fragment was removed, it makes some sense that he died. Likewise, Gerard, while seemingly "healthy" in his base form, had suffered *massive* damage from his fight, and his Volstandig was essentially the only reason he was still alive. Remove that, and *squick*.
Haschwald is the weird one, as he seemed to be quite healthy, and while he'd suffered some damage from Uryuu, he really wasn't *that* bad. Additionally, he was a "special" Quincy, "compatible" with Yhwach, and able to "share" Almighty when Yhwach needed rest. You'd think that would make him the most resilient - but apparently not.

@@brentbourgoine5893 I think death of jugram has to do with him tweaking his fortune/misfortune with 'The Balance'. Maybe after Juha took his power, all the misfortune he tweaked were stacked and killed him. That's why his death was kinda random.

the impression I got from Gerard and Robert was that their powers likely had something to do with manipulating their physical form whether augmenting physical abilities or appearance and when it was stripped from them, their forms being augmented at the moment of taking were also stripped from them. But idk it was never really clear what Robert's gifted abilities were.

I guess gerard's case was different because he was the heart of the soul king.his body was a manifestation of a stern ritter same goes for pernida.so when yhwach absorbed him it was similar to when he absorbed mimihagi(right hand)
Holy selection seems consistent to me when you consider three factors:
1) How much the quincy in question relied on Yhwach's power compared to their own power - those who had no power of their own (or had soul king's power, thus having only quincy power) were instantly killed;
2) The character of quincy in question - those who were absolutely loyal to Yhwach were killed instantly, those were rebellious survived;
3) How worthy the selected quincy were - those who Yhwach saw as trash were kept alive for a while.
Every quincy who were hit by holy selection falls within one or more of these points. It was mostly a matter of how quincy in question was willing to give their powers away versus how willing they were to rebel against Yhwach (during tybw event itself).
Maybe with Auswahlen he can take only the part of power that originated from his soul, bazz b was quincy and had his own power before he was given the shrift, i think Yhwach only took the shrift or whatever power he gave him, tho him being rebellious does make sense. Also if his guard can be revived with Auswahlen, prolly some of the Sternritters were dead but resurrected and then when he took their power, they returned to previous state, example Gerrard if the thing that kept resurrecting him or giving him more power was part of Yhwach soul in his shrift, after it was taken he would be dead because he was killed many times beforehand. Also Gerrard is a part of Soul King so i dunno if this makes much sense anyways.
@@Jo_0ne Gerald and Pernida are pieces of the soul king. Their schrifts are their natural abilities. The letter was ceremonial I believe.
There's also the forth & fight point of who was directly hit by the light (which most of the other Stern Ritter Dodge) & how much Yhwach's willing to drain, Yhwach drained only the powers of the real world Quincy (inorder to make sure Ichigo survives Grand Fisher he only took Masaki's actual powers instead of her life force)
@@Jo_0ne Most of that would make sense except that he wouldn't have personally given his powers to the "not worthy" Quincy to start, they got it from genetics. It would seem then that the power he gives can be passed down through blood lines as well as directly given. Or the Auswahlen that he uses is actually capable of draining the Quincy essence from ANY Quincy regardless if he gave them power or not, maybe he is simply part of that power from birth and has more control over it than others with it.
the issue with your explanation is that all of this is practically speculation, its annoying that such an OP ability has to be left up to so much interpretation, it takes away the threat of the power itself and makes it seem kinda silly. solid breakdown tho
i think the reason it affected them differently is because the more power he gives you the heavier the price they'll pay just like the strongest sternritter died and the weakest ones survived.

Yhwach (YHWACH) is derived from the Hebrew name for God being YHWH - Yod Hey Waw Hey, which is pronounced Yahawah (yahowah). Kubo added a C which is Chet (ch), the A in His Yhwach is rendered null, Yhwach is then pronounced Yahawach (Ya how ach/ Ya how ahk).

So happy I found a channel that's all about Bleach! I've recently read all of the TYBW arc and it's good to have someone explain the characters and their abilities in great detail!
The varying results of the Auswählen are actually incredibly easy to understand. The light takes the power they were given by Yhwach and leaves them as they would be if they never had it.
Accutrone was super old, to the point where without the power he'd have been long dead by old age, when the power is taken, he is left a corpse.
Gerard's ability, the Miracle, literally allows him to ignore lethal damage, without that unique ability he'd have died a dozen times over from damage we saw alone. Earlier in the fight his head and body were shredded. When the power is taken, he is left a corpse.
Jugram's ability, the Balance, generally involves taking heavy damage which is then balanced out. When the power is taken he is left on death's door, as he would've been without it.
Other characters, like Bazz-B, likely cultivated much more of their power themselves, perhaps some of them were even given schrift befitting their abilities and enhancing them, rather than gaining those abilities outright from the schrift, which isn't really possible with weird conceptual powers like Miracle or Balance. When their power was taken, only the parts they would never have had without Yhwach, things like the volstandig, were lost.
Gerard's power is not bestowed by Ywach. It is his own innate and latent power as the soul king's heart, similar to Pernida.
Ywach only give them a schrift to acknowledge their strength and to formalize them as a sternritter.
Except that's all headcanon

@@mohdnazarudin2636 Ywach gave them a schrift so that his soul's connection would deepen, it's like gaining more roots on the masses that is Gerard and Pernida so that when he does perform Auschwelin, he can take much more, even if they die. His soul is in essence more deeply rooted into their beings.

Without Ywach's intervention, I can't see how anyone could've stopped him besides maybe Toshiro just perma freezing him instead of killing him.
If Gerard wasn't branded with a schrift which made him exploited to the Achswalen. His power could rival and even defeat Yhwach.

@Antoine Close, but he's more likely an expy of the devil. Think about it, he called the Soul King "father", rebelled against him, and seeks to be the new God, while also making deals with people that inevitably lead to their death in a manner that Faust would be proud of.

Personally I always understood Gerard dying to the Auswählen while others didn't was simply because he has already died countless times and the only reason he was still alive is because of the power given to him by Yhwach. With the powers stripped from him he dies.

Kubo gives these three more fights and makes them win even if it creates plot holes and makes no sense, Because of these three chad, vizards, chad got shafted. Toshiro defeating hallibel made no sense when ichigo was struggling with base ulquiorra In bankai form, Ichigo defeated byakuya and became 10x stronger after gaining mask and barely defeated Grimmjow, Our byakuya with his popularity boost came in and mid diffed zommari,

I always thought of it in terms of interest payment. The older the quincies were, the more power and life they borrowed over time and they had to pay back more. That's why the young ones even kept some power. The light beam explanation didn't make sense to me so I thought it was a misunderstanding on their part. Feels like a stretch though.
What always bothered me more was Ichigo not getting his Quincy power stolen. It supposedly kept the rest of his powers in check even during his inception so if removed it could have allowed for a more dramatized, intense an interesting power growth than the zampakuto reforging business. Like the actual growth Aizen was looking for. A shame it didn't go that way.

Hollow = poison to quincy
Hollow + shinigami powers suppressed and combined with quincy powers
Absorbtion = yhwach's death due to the most basic thing that led to the whole war between quincy and shinigami
Still it would have been an intresting end if yhwach died like that

For ashwalan to work yhwach needs to have given the power to the person he is using ashwalan on.
All for one just steals the quirk whereas ashwalan is taking back what was given to them with intrest 😂 and yhwach is not able to use the schrifts as his own he can use only one schrift the almighty he uses ashwalan to increase the strength of his own schrift rather than using multiple abilities.
Thus similiar yet different.

Interesting, Yhwach finally used the technique but only after all of his remaining Elites were beaten and he was about to be defeated himself, so it makes Yhwach look far less ruthless and makes it clear this time around it's more of a desperation last resort technique.

I was wondering will you please make a video summarising the plot of the TYBW arc? No other bleach youtubers have done it, but everyone has talked up until the end of the Aizen arc to death. Thank you for the lore videoes. I read the series but there are things I have a hard time understanding at times.
I think there is a concept of equivalent exchange with Holy Selection. Yhwach can only take how much he has provided to the Quincy ,that is the Quincy who were not depended on the power given by Yhwach they get there power stolen and the one who's existence is dependent on Yhwach power they get there life stolen.
(But I also think Yhwach is a part of soul king himself , maybe he is the brain of Soul King 👑 manifesting with a will of his own.)

I think a big factor in how they are effected could be how much they fight it or not. I think the ones stripped down to the bone completely gave over literally everything they had whereas the other resisted even if it was subconsciously.

Maybe NaNaNa and Bazz B either moved away before the still silver could form or somehow used their schrifts(fire and weakness detection) to stop the silver from forming. While Haschwalth simply accepted it.
Also Candice and Meninas where nowhere to be seen, so we can assume that the Auswählen heart clot got them, after Robert died, Shunsui saw from high ground exactly six lights( Bazz, Nanana, Giselle, Liltotto, Meninas and Candice) in ch 604.
That's what adds to Ywach's lethally terrifying mystique. We know he's a god like being who is fully capable and willing to wipe out everything and everyone to get what he wants, transcending the concepts of good/evil in his narrow and twisted mind. He's neither here nor there in his overall state, he is known yet still an enigma.
One thing I still don't understand is why the Auswählen (which targeted all the Gemischt Quincy) was used on Masaki who was a Echt Quincy.
I've heard people say it was because Masaki became infected with the hollow "White", making her a Gemischt Quincy. However, "White" was passed down to Ichigo which means that the hollow was no longer inside Masaki at that point. Even the link that was placed on Isshin originally to stabilize Masaki's soul from being destroyed by "white" was transferred from her to Ichigo.
So wouldn't this mean that Yhwach used the Auswählen on Masaki on purpose despite knowing that she actually was still a echt Quincy?

In addition to this, why did Masaki's 3 children, who would also be gemicht Quincy, survive?
Maybe the affect of Auswahlen on the various Sternritter correlated to how much power he gifted them. So for instance it completely stripped Valkyrie to the bone because he was gifted a lot more power, whereas the Bas-B etc already had power of their own they were just boosted.
I would have loved to see more backstory behind the Soul Society (more places outside the sereitei) and quincies (the towns they show when bazz is young, is it the world of the living or the soul society?) i think more backstory could help smooth over inconsistencies by providing more lore and allowing things that aren’t quite connected be connected
Hey, Tommo, don't know if you had talked about it but there's one thing about the sternritters that's been bothering me since the arc and it's that outside of Bazz B, Jugram and maybe As Nodt and Roid brothers we don't know anything about their past or how they joined the quincy army. Wich is weird because looking back at all the previous antagonists we know all the backgrounds and motivations of all the shinigami, we know the backstories of all the espada (at least most of them) and how and why they joined aizen, even the Fullbringers get some background
I always felt the effects were based on how much of His power the victim was using, in addition to whether or not they were struck by the light. Robert died because he was old and by that point, was only kept alive by His power. Gerard was already well beyond his limits when the light struck him, his entire physical embodiment was purely due to His power. Anyone who survived being struck was not using Volstandig, anyone who was and was hit died immediately. Hashwald had grown accustomed to the power and, while not actively employing it in the moment, I think being exposured to it as closely as he was results in his death when it is gone, like a fractured vessel holding itself together as long as it is full, but crumbling as soon as it is emptied.
In my opinion the better explanation for auswahlen ability is that its more of a give and take. For example, anyone who wanted to live longer while on death bed got his wish granted by Yuha till the time he deemed it necessary, once Auswahlen is activated, that person would have everything stripped from their body as would have been the natural course of things had Yuha not intervened. Similary, anyone who wished for more power would get it from Yuha and once Auswahlen is activated they lose any additional power they obtained from Yuha without killing them
I think the theory is whoever was given more of Yhwach's power who be ripped by the bone and who was given little could resist having one's powers ripped out of them and likely survive... well depending. I think it also depends on Ywhach "merciful" nature who will live or die as well... but that's stretching it.
The idea that Yhwach died because of a silver arrow is something poetic. Because it was formed literally from the hearts of people whose lives he stole.
In comparison, Jesus died for the sins of mankind. He healed the physically and spiritually sick and poor. Yhwach on the other hand was used by people to heal themselves, but in turn bound their souls to Yhwach.
Jesus knew from the beginning that Judas would betray him for silver coins, but he made him his disciple anyway, because without him, the crucifixion, and in turn, mankind's salvation wouldn't happen.
Yhwach knew that Uryu would betray him, and ordered his men to keep a close eye on him.
Both Jesus and Yhwach are sons of Gods. Though in Bleach's context, it means being sacrificed in a role to prevent worlds from collapsing. Eerily similar to when pagan tribes force people to become deities, to appease calamities.
Both Yhwach and Jesus wanted a paradise, where life is eternal. Both were prophesied to come back, and some would say that it would usher the Apocalypse.
Ichigo is the ultimate hybrid of Bleach. Aizen has been dubbed by many as the Lucifer of Bleach. And Uryu, to me, is the Judas of Yhwach's own making. All three of them teamed up to defeat the son of a god, and prevented the end of worlds.

This is why no matter how rushed this arc was i stil love it so many intresting themes to explore the character of ywach alone is very complexe and open to different interpretations i truly hope the anime wil fix the issues in this arc
This similar theme shows up in a lot of mythical lore, not just bleach and the bible. A very cool theme indeed.

I wondered the same thing, but the show said those who given power by Yawbach when they die it'll go back to Yawbach, so I just assumed those that were given a larger portion of his soul had more taken away. So full blooded (because of family ties I'm assuming) or those given more power like his elite guards died.
If given ability to walk, you lose all the power you gained in those legs. Like doing nothing but leg day for years and he takes it away.
Well we know that Gerard had already been killed and was only able to keep going because of his abilities, so perhaps he turned to bones because without his powers he would have been dead, perhaps Robert was in the same position (we never really saw what his schrift was). Hashwalf had just been beaten by Uryu and only turned the fight around thanks to his shrift, so now without his powers he was back to being beaten but not yet dead.
If Yhwach is reaching out for their power, it's likely that those who have more power, or powers he likes more, he would "pull" harder, damaging and killing them more harshly. That could be why some of the smaller Quincies, who may have been considered less important or less interesting to Yhwach get less damage done to them.
Random explanation for the differences in aushwahelen. Maybe the skin ripping/ actual life stealing thing is an at will thing. More of stealing every ounce of power a being has till the body is stripped of organic matter (woulda been cool and more in lore if they'd inspected the bones and noted marrow was gone or somrthing) and maybe in order to bring back the 4 schutzstaffel he needed to rob a couple sternritter of their lives completely in order to ressurect the ones that actually die. Gerard can't actually be killed due to the miracle. Barro looked like he got an arm chopped off but I'm not entirely sure he died and pernida kinda got stabbed through the face but we know he can just duplicate from later fights. I'm not entirely sure but from the video I believe you said 2 sternritter actually got destroyed in the process entirely. Could it be related to him having to bring back only two of the schutzstaffel as pernida and Gerard presumably survived?
I really like that part kubo to be able to deliver complex story with well bended hax. I guess he had to leave some big loose because of rush. Hope we will get explanation through CFYOW
I thought about the reason why yhwach used the auswahlen on haschwalth and Gerard as well as on ichigo when he took his powers. Maybe it was because, if yh uses auswahlen and takes back the powers he gave, he actually gains even more power bc of the experiences everyone had and the fact that they 'grow' over the time the series went on. And now that yh is close before his goal and thought that Gerard as well as haschwalth and ichigo gained enough power and experience, he chose that it was time to take all that in, in order to have enough power to basically eradicate the concept of death in his new old world, in which all the universes in bleach are one (hueco Mundo, soul society, human world etc). That may also be the reason why he would play with his son ichigo a Lil before actually goin or finishing ichigo up faster as he could.
It is a possibility that Juha can take all or as much as he pleases of the power in question. Maybe those that were completely destroyed were considered more dangerous if left alive. Possibly, Juha just takes what is necessary. Or maybe those that were most powerful were literally being held together by their power and suddenly having it stripped is what did them in. Who knows.

A note on bazz b. If im remembering correctly hachwalth had a similar ability to gift power and was doing so to bazz b as a child so theoretically the power bazz was using originally came from hachwalth and wasnt taken by yawach.
Maybe it varies on how dependent on the power each character has. If they rely on it far more they are drastically effected, if they only use it a little and/or have very little of it to start (compared to the the far more powerful Quincy).
My take on the reason why some died immediately and some didn't was due to the amount of power he had given the Quincy. I'd imagine he gave Gerrard a ton of power
The damage dealt by the ability probably scales with how much strength yhwach gave you. Gerard's strength may have been entirely the result of his schrift, whereas the pink haired guy may not have gained as much from it.
Perhaps the ones who where stripped to the bone should have been long dead but their powers where keeping them alive
i think the inconsistencies in the auswählen depend on a variety of factors.
one would be the physical condition of the person
one would be the amount and the nature of the power that was taken
one would be how much the person depends on the taken power to live.
for example gerard dies because the miracle is keeping him alive, so when it is taken, he dies.
It's probably a case of it differs depending on how much power you obtained from Yhwach versus how much power you had gained on your own and also both could coexist.. Bazz B was training super hard in the flashback manga panels.

Could be to do with Loyalty... Those who fully loved and worshiped gave everything back when called (to the bone). Those who actively followed their interests managed to hold onto what is their (bosted) powers.

I keep saying this, Kubo wrote as the story moved not thinking about details really. This week he did not know what the next week will bring, he would just have had to figure things out as the time was to write a new chapter.
I know I’m a bit late but I wanna go into a theory on why Gerad’s flesh was torn off. Notice how as his flesh is ripped from his skeleton, underneath is the bone and covering it is the light (reishi) so the Auswhalen would target gerad’s flesh reasonably. Now for the other inconsistency he addresses, I would have to agree that it maybe has something to do with the age of the sternritter.
I think it's entirely possible that the Auswählen is more subjective, because the Quincy's powers are given by parts of big boss man's (I forget how to spell his name) soul. It could be that there's some kind of emotional connection, which is why Haschwalth has that kinda touching final scene, while Bazz-B, who always gave me more of a cavalier sort of "I'm mostly just here to fight" vibe, and ostensibly doesn't have a super strong emotional connection to Yhwach, just gets kinda blasted and his powers yoinked from him. There's definitely still holes in the theory, but I think it fits okay overall

Could be proportional to the amount of borrowed power that they used (or received) as opposed to their latent talents. Gerard probably used more that a little bit of that borrowed power to reach that stature and for his age, Robert probably uses that borrowed power as naturally and subconsciously like a heartbeat.
If you're only partially of Quincy descent, only that portion gets ripped out. This being a shonen series, it doesn't have to follow conventional genetics; it's more like getting the vertical threads disappearing from a knitted sweater, leaving just the horizontal.

I'll give Kubo the benefit of the doubt, I think he made the Auswahlen inconsistent on purpose, at the end of the day the Quincys were still human and all human beings are different on a physical level, with that being said I'm sure not all the quincies were same as each other on a physical or spiritual standpoint.
l i have a big problem with byakuya, kenpachi, toshiro. These three ruin bleach, They get popularity boost they werent even supposed to appear in fullbring arc. Kubo gives these three more fights and makes them win even if it creates plot holes and makes no sense, Because of these three chad, vizards, chad got shafted. Toshiro defeating hallibel made no sense when ichigo was struggling with base ulquiorra In bankai form, Ichigo defeated byakuya and became 10x stronger after gaining mask and barely defeated Grimmjow, Our byakuya with his popularity boost came in and mid diffed zommari,

Byakuya was supposed to die but fans wanted him back, So kubo brought him back with more power that made no sense, Toshiro was also given boost, This time it was zero sqaud that was left in dust, Zero squad got offscreened

I wonder if the degree of the severity of the Auswählen's side effects comes down to how much of his power the sternritter were leant and given to wield. It would at least make some sense of the effect on the weaker sternritter allowin them to survive where several of the most powerful were left in such severe shape.

So I just been thinking of something forgive me if you talked about it here, but how did Ywach perform the auswahlen and kill masaki/katagiri while he was still "sleeping"
The silver arrow McGuffin is actually clever if you understand how blood works. Blood is actually a big theme of the story. It’s in the title for crying out loud😭
My head cannon for the Ashwahlen killing some Quincies to the bones and some just loosing their power is that Yhwach took what he gave them and should that be longer life of essentially infinite lives (Gerard) then he takes all that extra life and those that weren't so reliant of the power from him are the least affected.
I think the reason why it does this, is due to the amount they leaned into the power given. If you think about it everyone eradicated were hardcore disciples of ywach. Where as you have people like bas Who grew against him. And even hasch too didn't seem entirely in line with ywach due to him and Bas's relationship and overall how ywach treated his underlings in general. So it would make sense that if they didn't rely on said powers as much as the others, that which is them and not the power would be stronger than those who relied primarily on said power given. Meaning more of what made them, them. Would be taken away.
Funny tit bit: Auswählen literally means „to chose“ or „to select“, which I found interesting as Yhwatch has chosen who to kill. I like it.

The power i think works on the ones who aren't fully committed, when the dude says the ones hit by the light will die meaning those who don't turely follow me will be killed and those who turely belive in the power will have less to worry about
Candice and Meninas were killed directly by Auswahlen too. Not sure if Candice was already dead or merely wounded and unconscious from her offscreen defeat by Byakuya, but Liltotto confirmed that Meninas was still alive when she took her down.

If this was just his power and the almighty didn't exist, I would have loved it. The best fight was where Ibechie was taking his power and then yawach just grants it to himself
Id love to know if ishida..ryuken and even soul society KNEW about why ichigo/uryus mom died (due to the performance of auswahlen) and i REALLY wonder if AIZEN knew about this as hes seemingly the all knowing/aware everything being part of his plans. Surely this would help them prepare for the coming of the quincys..and yhwach as it happened 9 years before the story? Seems like a plothole

Just finished rereading the manga and a few things I thought after reading about the Auswählen:
A lot more people then I thought survived the Auswählen (Masaki, Katagiri, even As Nodt if I read the subtle detail in his backstory right) But I guess Ywhach mentions Uryu is the last surviving qunicy cuz he kept his quincy powers, while the others essential become human since they lost their powers.
But in that case what was the reason Ichigo survived? shouldn't he have been hit by that same Auswählen as well?
Having read a few of the comments it seems like some people may have similar thoughts to me about it, and that is if the only reason that person is alive is the power that gets taken from them they die out right otherwise it just robs them of their holy forms, the 1 wrinkle in this theory is B the Balance although it's possible that he was put into a state roughly akin to what he would have been in after his fight with Uryuu meaning drastically weakened and going todie but not dead yet so to summerise if the person would be dead without their power they die, if they would be dying due to recent events they are brought to the brink of deathand if they would by physically okay regardless they just lose power, that at least to me seems like a plausible explanation

"Died" could've been figurative, and the inconsistency could've been intentional. Maybe it's random or he just decides for himself what it'll do (e.g.: their flesh being stripped could be due to him taking the entirety of his power/soul back and those who survive were allowed to keep just enough). The coma for that one character could've been to give loved ones more time with her.

Well, Gerard had no flesh left really. he was made of light or so it seemed. made of his power. So it makes sense it was ripped away. Hashwalt was his other half, so maybe taking his half back makes sense that he's left useless?
My take is that there are two main factors: the degree to which their powers stem from Yhwach & their condition outside of their power. Take Gerard, who was on both ends of the Auswhalen - before being powered up he got one-shot, but afterwards his Miracle could revive him under seemingly any circumstances. When that power boost was removed, he couldn't survive any longer. Robert could've been subject to a similar, earlier usage of Auswhalen that saved his life, or otherwise have been kept alive by Yhwach's powers.
Like the Sternritter that survived, Masaki was a pure Quincy & ostensibly awake after her powers were taken. Uryu's mom was the only mixed Quincy shown, but could be an example of the fate all the others met (besides Uryu, who resisted, and Ichigo, whose special circumstances made him either immune or not a target)

I think the effects are proportionate to the amount of power given. Those who had their Baz had power given to him also by Hash, who used his own power to give and take as well. Geralt is entirely given power so he loses the most, considering he would be dead without it anyway.
Might be something of how mutch power you have been given like the unkilable person got a LOT of power from it so might have been the damage catching up or something like that
I suppose it depends on how much he lends to you that probably dictates how much he takes back... The ones that were obliterated were likely given more.
Didn't feel inconsistent when I read it--just that he could take more or less from certain Quincy, at his own discretion. That's why it didn't kill the 'pure' ones in the first usage and why it doesn't outright kill everyone in each usage after.
In my opinion this power depends on the powers they give you, like ifyou get a big power the payment will be bigger and less if it's lower, just a personal theory
