  • I have owned my Juki DDL 8700 for 3 years now so I decided to make a video on my experience with this model sewing machine. Probably the best decision I've made for my business in moving forward skill-wise.

    This is the exact sewing machine I've been looking into getting when I next upgrade! Home sewing machines burn/wear out so easy (its either that or I thoroughly beat them up).

    Loved your review. I've been sewing on commercial machines for many, many years! Love my Juki DDL5550& DDL 8700 I also have and love my Brother sewing/embriodery machines.

    Thank you for the amazing review! I've been sewing on a Singer Patchwork for years and about to receive an old Montgomery Ward from my uncle from his upholstery days, but this machine is on my saving up list to buy next year.

    Great overview video ... just picked up a nearly new version of the machine. Recommend you do a few more videos on the machine.... tips for adjusting tension, maintenance, configuring for different types of sewing. While there are some on CZcams most are not as polished as your few machine videos.

    Hi, just curious. I love that you "show the digital feature" to adjust the speed. However, I can't seem to find that in the description of the link you provided for the purchase or on other ads for this. Could you please tell me if "this is an added on feature?" TYIA :)

      Yes! I've heard great things about old Berninas. I think it's essential to have a good old home machine along with a juki. I think you'd love it! :)

    I love your patience of explaining about Mr. Juki DDL 8700. I always admire this machine and would like to own one mainly for heavy duty purposes. Can I ask you where l can get a good deal for one?

      Good question! I bought mine from a local dealer. You might be able to find one on Facebook marketplace as well but I’ve never tried that. I never use my home sewing machine anymore and this was definitely worth getting it new!

      No it's a regular straight stitch. You can purchase a Teflon or roller feet to suit your needs.

    I purchased this machine, but I can’t get the presser foot to apply enough pressure to hold my fabric. I have it down as far as it will go, and the fabric still moves under the foot

    I thought it was 5500 stitches per minute, I've been checking into getting one. I love it so much. I just noticed this was from 2 years ago, so maybe they made the new machines go 5500 spm.

    What is the difference between juki straight stitch machine vs lock stitch sewing machine?!

      Good question! I’m not %100 sure, but I think it has to do with how it starts sewing. I think the lock stitch sews so that you don’t have to sew back and forth before you sew your seam? I’d have to verify that though 🙂

    Hi just brought a Juki 8700 and didn’t recive any information with it Iv down loaded manual gosh doesn’t mean a lot.
    Iv done everything I should I hope.
    But Iv turned it on and my control panel which looked a bit like yours say p and three line going round in circles if I press -/+ it shows me a number like say 3 but doesn’t stay on continuing to do the above then if I sew the number 3 will be there then stop and go back to circle movement hope this makes sense and is this what is ment to happen many thanks jan

    Interesting video, it threads very similar to my Singer 401A from 1959. Not exactly the same, but a similar path and mechanism.

    Is there a video of someone walking the needle very slowly with the pedal? Just want to see how slow you can go and how thick of material it can go through.

    Hi, was there a problem with all the oil in the pan under the machine as you were moving it home? Were there any leaks or spills during the journey?

      Good question! I always need to add a lot more oil to my machine after I move. I started emptying the oil out due to it spilling. Hope that helps 🙂

    Hi Tailorette.... I am thinking about starting a marine canvas and upholstery shop. It seems whenever I go to a canvas guy Juki is the machine I see the most of... would you recommend this for heavy sunbrella and clear roll up plastics we use for windows in boat canvas jobs. Also wanted to know if it would be good for vinyl in seat cushions ... Thanks

      Yes, good for canvas and upholstery, can handle sunbrella and plastics, vinyl is also a go

    I am researching this machine to use for working on full grain leather. I like to make tote bags, wallets, journal covers, etc. Seems best to get a walking foot for use with leather. Have you used yours with say 4-5 to 7-8oz leather? Thank you!

      I think this machine can sew through leather better than a home sewing machine, however, I don't think it is the most ideal machine for that job. Definitely on quilts though! I've sewing through quilts and layers of batting without an issue.

    The oil system needs to be run at 3000+ revs, watch for oil in the top clear plug. You now know it is well lubricated and you can set the speed back to what makes you happy.

      Good question! I'm not %100 sure. My guess is a more study Juki might be needed for leather.

    Is the stitch speed adjustment something you purchased separately from the actual machine? I've been looking at several different pictures of this machine but none of them have that attachment. I'm looking at purchasing and being able to adjust the speed would be great.

      I have this machine with the servo motor. I do not have the digital buttons but there is a knob on the servo motor to adjust speed.

    The speed of this machine is impressive, but my concern is how slow it will stitch. I did see you dial it way back to 600 stitches per minute, but can it be controlled even further using the wheel by hand? Thank You & great video... very helpful!!!

      There is a foot pedal underneath, so you can control how fast you are running. I believe the setting she set just limits the max

      This machine does not sew in a zig zag. It is only a straight stitch.

    How much oil does it take? Is it regular sewing machine oil? How often to you have to clean it?

      The oil upfront that it takes would be about a whole bottle of machine oil that Juki sells. I purchase mine from where I purchased my machine locally. Surprisingly I don't have to clean it very often. It hardly ever jams up from the fluff that collects.

      Yeah, I threaded it correctly. I plan on getting serviced. I was told by my juki dealer tension problem or threaded incorrectly. I have a tension problem from birds nest it makes when I start sewing. I have notices that the top thread gets sucked in than it starts 🙃 😅

      @@thetailorette I noticed in a video making jeans that they put cloth before they sew. So like they run it nearly to the end than actual project. Solves the problem but once I sew like back pockets, waistband 🤯🤢

      @@joansbeautifulworld8396 for this machine it should come with a quart of oil to put in the bottom of the pan. Juki sells the oil that you need.
