I have the unique advantage of being a third-generation deaf person, an attribute I’ve oddly cherished my entire life. Now I have two cochlear implants but when I remove the external devices I enjoy exquisite and utter silence as long as I like. It’s deeply centering and comfortable to me. Whenever I really want to press in and hear God, I first remove my devices and enter into the nothingness of no sound. ❤

As a 71 yr old living alone for 14 yrs, I feel like I’ve been affected by too much silence. When I’m with people I long for conversation and an exchange of information. I have tried this since I’ve recognized my need to talk when I’m with others. I really struggle to be quiet when I’m blessed to be with others. And I’ve seen the silence that comes with those in nursing homes. Another perspective. Of course, all things in balance is His way.

good morning ☀️ Beginning of 2023, I shutdown all social media including youTube, Netflix, and opted for silence or hearing God’s word.
what a struggle, did I continue, no, but I come to appreciate the stillness…💕🍃

We own the space between listening and speaking….

Powerfully put! Though our brokenness can disrupt that ownership, all the more need to lean on the Lord for help.

Silence feels like a loving embrace. I remember the first time I experienced it fully was exploring under water. I was so happy and at peace I couldn't get enough of it.

I have always struggled with silence. I’ve always thought the silence needed to be filled with noise or words. My goal today is to not speak at times and be silent. Great discipline to learn!

I will be in a meeting today and will practice not rooting my own horn. Since I live alone, my dog is the target of my speaking. Maybe she would like some silence! Thanks for the 2 summary items-very helpful-and thank you, John, and your team for my daily devotional.

Our grandson is nonverbal autistic. Today he is 9 years old and how wonderful it would be, to hear him say anything.

I am on a trip right now with a lot of people I do not know well. At the beginning of the trip I was sharing some information I know through my research. After listening to this video on silence, I decided to try to practice it.A number of people have come up to me and asked me if I am OK! So this is not as easy as it seems- even for others!

I can do relate to the fear of silence. I call it scary silence. I love the quote from Dallas about the quiet confidence of who we are and leaving that in Gods hand. I may have to get the book. Thank you.

I have always been a quiet person, socially awkward. At times, the words I speak sound so ridiculous that I end up not speaking. My husband is a quiet man as well so we have plenty of silence in our house. On the flip side, my 24 year old has always been quite the opposite lol. Silence and solitude till me up for the enjoyable times with friends and family. ❤
