I just wish nintendo treated the SNES/64/GC era the way they do with the NES era.
To be fair, the NES is WAY easier to make titles like this than SNES or N64, considering the games were much simpler and shorter while being quite difficult. Later games are better off re-released because they can stand on their own as fully fledged games, and making them high-score based might make them less fun
@Jackie_burnp SNES and certain N64 games still carry a 'gameplay first' mentality for the most part which would lend well to these collections (especially snes), so it would be nice to see them branch out to trying those. As for gamecube, the current switch still isnt powerful enough to emulate those games, and they were trying to be more cinematic comparatively, so we're *almost* there
@@Wyvernn_The Switch can and has emulated Gamecube. Mario Sunshine in 3D All-stars was emulated.
@@Wyvernn_ Yeah, it looks like the other guy misinterpreted and thought they meant all their games should be high score based. Though they could have phrased it much better and said they could make high score versions of the games for the contests.
@@jordancooney6817 right, but it’s infeasible to require a download that includes 5 GC titles (already bordering on 10 GB) let alone 10-20. This is why GC NSO won’t exist for a very long time and why we’re getting remasters of that era of games instead
So an easy way to get coins would be to intentionally go slow on your first run and then gradually increase your speed on future playthroughs? Is there anything built in to prevent that?
I really wanna get behind this but I'm not sure, maybe if they move into the 16 bit era since that's the one I grew up with, but it just doesn't seem appealing to me, at least not in the way NES Remix did with the amount of challenges and legit "remixed" levels behind it. Seems to me like a game I'd play for 30 minutes and go "neat!" and then probably never pick it up again.
I hope they do DLC and updates with more first party NES games down the road. There’s plenty they didn’t include
Yeah, even ignoring the Sports games that aren't too speedrun friendly, there's Clu Clu Land, Donkey Kong Jr., Dr. Mario, Mach Rider, Mario Bros., Punch-Out!!, Wario Woods, and Wrecking Crew
This isn’t an omg I have to play this kind of game, but I do think it’s neat.
Man I just don't care about speedrunning. What was great about NES Remix was the gameplay being mashed up and recontextualised with new elements and wild edits. I don't think an asynchronously competitive bend to otherwise playing these games straight will be able to hold my attention.
Party Mode looks pretty cool but it's hard enough getting friends over to play games, getting them in to play old games they weren't alive for at a high level is a hard sell.
It's insane how much people misremember NES Remix. They forget that you had to play tons of challenges just like this to actually unlock the remixes. The ratio of challenges to remixes was roughly 8:1. So if you loved that game, you should at least enjoy this game. If you don't think you would enjoy this game despite that, maybe you need to reflect on whether or not NES Remix was ever that good in the first place.
@@escargoat8552 dude I replayed remix 2 months ago. I remember it just fine. I probably would mildly enjoy this, but for 30 bucks and no promise of anything more interesting, I'm not really the market for it.
Stop acting like you know people.
I'm with you. When I saw this being announced I just skipped forward in the Direct to the next thing.
Great video! This looks fun, indeed, and I always like when games have badges (and other things) to collect, it helps bringing me back to the games and trying different challenges so I can get more badges. I really liked that "Classified information" part, that's a neat thing to have included.
Is the NES cartridge included with the game actually playable on an NES system?? It'd be cool if it contained that Nintendo World Championships ROM they used in the competitions back in the day, but idk if Nintendo would do that
LOVE the purple background on the VOD logo.
Very excited for this video!
I'm playing NES Remix 1&2 right meow so I'll wait but yeah this is even more on my radar now
I can definitely see myself doing a lot of that elimination contest with the scrolling Balloon Fight level. I do like the way you can set up Year range filters for game releases as part of a contest. It may be a simple Data-driven based filter aspect; but giving the player a selection like that, is a cool feature.
I remember the rumors of this game and I thought, what could really make this worth buying? I was expecting a few levels to play and that’s it. When I saw the announcement trailer though, first thing that came to mind is NES remix and I was instantly sold. I completely understand this game and I am definitely excited. My daughter and I will have a blast with this one day
I'm actually quite looking forward to this with my daughter after she got into playing the microgames in Warioware Inc.
I'm also not a master at NES games, since I started with SNES, so hopefully we'll be on even footing if we try the local co-op stuff. Should be great for some simple pick up and play fun. Here's hoping they do a SNES edition too someday.
I just want to know if you can play the full games and just not snippets. Id instant buy if it has the full games.
Nope
@@supdan daaaaang...
Thanks for letting me know.
@@supdan Doesnt it have full smb1?
I think it is a cool idea but it's just a little too late for me. I bought the original hardware back in the day, a couple games for the Wii, NES classic mini and NSO subscription, I think I am done buying these. For my situation, it would feel like buying a fancy leadership board.

Still my favorite bit from E3
I ordered the Jp version just for the physical items lol
Andrea Rene 0:48 blasts from the Past
iirc according to Nintendo Life's preview licenced third-party games such as Spy v Spy are in the game.
As picks for your profile's favorite game
Should have been 100 player battle royale
Can’t wait
So thid is basically megaman zero. Getting ranked and having to keep an A or S rank to unlock certain content.
So is it possible to play the full games in this ?
It seems that they are all in there, so it would be a shame to only be able to experience them in chunks
No, just have a Switch online subscription and you'll be able to play the full versions of these games
This is the game I'm most excited about
I'm always surprised to see this hasn't bled into SNES titles yet. However, I do like a successor to NES remix. I'll likely pick this up tbh
Cant wait for the DLC
Bruh why would it have DLC? They're most likely to do next is a SNES edition in a separate game
@@emmanoel12 Definitely DLC to add more games 👍🏼
@georged7627 Would like this as DLC but difficult to happen unfortunately
what was the first song? just from nes championship?
@@CalebChrisR Correct!
Is the online modes a way of giving us back Mario 35?
In SMB 35 you would send hordes of enemies back and forth between 34 opponents while trying to outstay everyone else (and the timer).
In Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition you can compete online against a couple of pre-recorded ghost data of other players (and friends) to see who's the fastest.
You can't interfere with other players' plans, unlike SMB 35, and it's closer to racing a ghost in Mario Kart (Time Trial) opposed to actually racing them on the same course with items, collisions and such.
It’s also going to be cheaper than I expected $48AUD sounds pretty great and sales can make it even cheaper.
this game looks rad, but some of the screen splits for example on local multiplayer are genuinely atrocious. i wouldn't be able to see unless the TV js big enough, and i have 20/20 vision
This game looks great. It's going to be super niche and i dont think most younger gamers will get this release at all.
Nes only? Really? The nes nostalgia people already growth out from it
I'm still wondering why they bothered using the Nintendo World Championships branding on this, since this really has nothing to do with those events outside of the speedrunning element to the challenges. The fact that this is releasing in Japan with that branding despite those events never being a thing in the country tells me that this isn't cut from the same mold especially from the actual competition games played back then. That said I am interested in picking this up but the price tag is a big ask. I'm very familiar with these games so I am wondering if the challenges will allow players to explore unusual methods of clearing them. The Super Mario Bros. speedrunning community is gonna have a field day with speedrunning the game with warps considering the amount of glitches the Any% speedruns use for the game.
Nintendo's game.
Nintendo's marketing choice.
Wonderful!
"Completely wasting your life: the game"
lol this is such a nothingburger of a game
I wish a lot of the challenges took more than 3 seconds
I would have picked this up for online multiplayer. plus u know w the whole removing smb35 thing, just no thanks.
How much are Nintendo paying you?
40 bucks feels too steep for this when I have both NES Remix games sitting there on my Wii U. I think when this game launches, I’ll get over the FOMO by replaying the NES remix titles.
Having said that, something focused squarely on speed-running like this is great, the price just feels too steep to me. I’ll keep an eye on the reviews, though.
It's 30 bucks
Exciting! I can't wait to stream some of this World Championship game! NES ROCKS!!!
"NWCS is better than you think"
.................but... I didn't think anything?
As someone who really enjoys watching speedruns but has never tried one for themselves, this game looks super fun! It seems to lower the barrier of entry so that everyone can join in on the hobby. Plus, having a party mode is just the cherry on top. Pretty sure I'm gonna go for it!
This essentially sounds like they took speedrunning and made *that* a game which is pretty cool. Might pick it up on impulse sometime!
So just to clarify; ALL the games in this compilation can be played in their entirety, via speed run mode and as long as you dont lose to badly? Does that alsoean it can be done with up to 8 players locally?
not going to lie, i'm kind of surprised that the game has got enougth attention for what it is. they don't pull the Fire Emblem NES translation physical release BS w/a digital code as a limited-time release, yet it actually appeared in a direct (despite having its release date known for months). think the big thing everyone's just thinking "can you just do a NES/SNES remix?". at the very baseline, i'd just assume that Nintendo themselves was pretty hands-off with its development, but at least gives it more focus due to using established IPs. wonder if its an ashcan game produced to eat up lower-capacity switch cart parts.
I'm definitely looking forward to this game and I called dibs on Super Mario Bros 3.
Also, the game is surprisingly 30 bucks
i might keep my CE sealed to increase it's value down the Line.
nothing wrong in making a bit of extra cash.
Uh...
I'm sorry, but after the first WarioWare on the Switch and Switch Sports, along with the "earn coins for rewards" bit, I'm starting to see a suspicious "play every day" trend going on here.
it's better than I think, alright, I get it...
But is it better than Monkey Ball? I don't think so
“Better than you think” also doesn’t mean “good”. It could go from “trash” to “dog water” but that doesn’t mean it’s worth playing.
To be fair not many things are as good as Monkey Ball
To me the issues not that this game looks bad, just that it looks like a lesser NES Remix
I hope there is no Clu Clu Land.
Yeah, I just wanted NES Remix, I don't care much for speedrunning at all...NES Remix just, well, remixed things up to make some weird and fun challenges. I hope Remix still returns at some point.
People forget that you had to play dozens of challenges just like this to actually unlock the remixes in NES Remix.
Couldn’t even bother to get all 3 games from the actual NES Championship it’s named after. Low effort.
I’m so excited for this. Whaaat? Nintendo power callback yessss 😍🎉 Easily in my top 5 from the last direct, and that says something
It's basically just NES Remix with a new name slapped on it
😢No option to unlock/play the full Roms outside of NSO??? I'm not buying this...
youve never heard of google?
@@gamesake999 just saying, the full roms should be playable
The video described exactly what I already think.
Definitely passing on this one.
I’m just so tired of 80’s/early 90’s nostalgia pandering at this point. The GameCube is now just as old as the NES was when this whole trend started with the virtual console.
It’s exhausting how companies like Nintendo keep parading around these 40 year old games and repackaging them while dismissing the “newer” games that had a similar impact on the childhoods of younger audiences.
What are you talking about? The last year or more has been about remaking/remastering GameCube games (and even Gameboy/GBA). Whether they’ll go further than remakes/remasters, idk, but they’re starting to delve into the 2000’s.
The reason stuff like NES Remix and this gets made is because they’re much simpler games to edit and recreate. You’re not really gonna get that type of thing for 3D games because they likely can’t edit the old code to mix multiple games to work together (in a reliable way). Which means recreating it for the current platform. And doing that for one game, for only short snippets, would be a lot of work for little trade-off. Nevermind doing it for multiple. And if you’re going to recreate it, you might as well remake the actual game. It works for something like say Mario Party, because you’re creating everything to work (largely) the same, from scratch. Rather than replicate the exact feel of a past game.
Now maybe you don’t mean “I want a mini-game collection of GC games”, fine. But we’ve also gotten Advance Wars, Another Code, Endless Ocean, PM TTYD, Super Mario RPG, Pikmin 1/2/3, Metroid Prime, DKC Returns, Skyward Sword, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Link’s Awakening, Xenoblade Chronicles, and that’s just most of what _Nintendo’s_ published. Okay so maybe you don’t want too many remakes/remasters, I can get behind that. But you’re not exactly going to see Wind Waker 2 (or 4, technically), and a lot of these series have continued to get new entries. For more obscure they’re going to start with a remake to test the waters. And technically some games like Custom Robo, released in the 90’s on the N64. So I’m not sure what you want exactly. It’s not like they’re gonna touch Cubivore or Doshin the Giant (not made by, but published by them).
I like oddball games though, so what did you have in mind when writing this?
Bro they didn't even get to 90s pandering, it's been 80s pandering for 30 years
Naaaaaaah, you did NOT just call Ice Climbers a “less notable game”
And Balloon Fight!
Well i mean they only have 1 game in the series not including arcade
Sorry, I just HATE Ice Climbers. The game would be amazing if it had mario like physics but the jump physics are attrocious... Sometimes you land on a platform and fall through it almost, what a bullshit game!
Am I the only one sick and tired of the "better than you think" tagline?
Especially when it's not true, but the person who came up with the title couldn't know.
I thought the main gimmick of this game was multiplayer (like the trailer heavily suggests) and that online multiplayer would be pushed for with things like the survival mode, since the only thing the game really has to synchronize between all players is the time when someone finishes. Hearing that a) there's no online multiplayer at all and b) survival mode is single player only against... pre recorded videos (say what?) is a pretty huge letdown.
I don’t know man. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m done with NES games. It was cute on Wii, but no mas Por favor.
It's written Más, with an accent on the A.
@@RaFaPilgrim sorry. I don’t speak French.
I agree. They've milked those NES games for all that they're worth at this point.
