      lol, it's mocking men, not women at all. The whole point is that the male-run entertainment industry doesn't know shit about them and markets to them stupidly. The video IS feminist, not mocking them. If you didn't know that, then the butt of the joke is actually you.

It's not that every one of them has all these scenarios, but this makes me think of movies like "10 Things I Hate About You", any of the "American Pie" movies, "Not Another Teen Movie" (which was at least being horribly sexist and insulting on purpose), and many more (all of which have made me question the life choices that led to me suffering through them).

      there are chick flicks written and directed by women, as a quick google search told me. if those are really better than the ones made by men (i don't know or care, i can't stand the genre), why don't you just watch *them*?
      if people (and by that i mean women) keep supporting those movies, you can hardly blame the directors for continuing to make more of them.
      blame the people who watch that shit, not the people who make it.

    • @janesmith4167
      @janesmith4167 Před 7 lety +63

      iseeicyicetea yes, except most people aren't concerned about who wrote the script. some will pay attention to a certain directors, but the majority of people don't care about who wrote the story just how it looks on screen. plenty of women have written great movies, that doesn't mean Ur next job is guaranteed or even that Hollywood will make similar movies. being Unrepresented in Hollywood has also to do with BTS politics. like not letting certain people try out for shit cuz discrimination, bad press or cuz they wouldn't join U in the "Casting Couch" and dumb shit like that. being good don't really mean shit "Empire" broke all kinds of records but are we making 80 TV shows abt. black people for black people cuz of it. Just cuz a group is underrepresented doesn't mean ur shit is going to be good either. - sorry all over the place, but ur response over simplified everything and didn't address her comment. she was talking about people being mad in the comments. people not wanting to accept that certain groups are underrepresented in Hollywood. like if U ever acknowledge any type of inequality that makes U personally responsible or maybe the world will end, I dunno.

      "yes, except most people aren't concerned about who wrote the script."
      the people who made this video very clearly are, though, and i was adressing *them*.
      "plenty of women have written great movies, that doesn't mean Ur next job is guaranteed"
      if it was a box office success, it kinda does mean that. investors don't *care* if the movie was good or bad, they care about their ROI.
      "sorry all over the place, but ur response over simplified everything and didn't address her comment."
      i addressed the video she defended to make a case for why i think this is not a result of discrimination.
      "people not wanting to accept that certain groups are underrepresented in Hollywood."
      i fully accept that, but "underrepresented" does not automatically mean "kept out by discrimination". i don't know about black people or other groups, but i see no convincing reason to believe that there is any gender inequality in the entertainment industry.

But I glad to see a satirical comment about Hollywood movies that supposedly tell a point of view of women. Hollywood movies just show more stereotypes about us.

    • @futurestoryteller
      @futurestoryteller Před 6 lety +16

      As a wannabe writer, I try to write female characters exactly the same way I'd write the male characters, I guess I'm not in a position to know whether that approach is a good one or not. Seems to me that if we're going to accept the basic principle that humans are individuals, then we're really just talking about personality types who may or may not be effected by societal pressures, depending on how stubborn and individualistic they are. Because in my experience average women and men _will_ fall back on tired stereotypes, either to the detriment of themselves, or in casting judgements on others, but it's usually an out for being intellectually lazy.
      An example would be if I had an idea for a drama, some people, but usually women would say "It's kind of depressing, what if it had a happy ending?" Or "What if there was a romance."; and some other people, usually men would say things like "Sounds kind of boring." or "needs more action." In both cases they're really just saying "Come on, man, I don't want to have to think that hard." That's where I think the biggest "difference" comes in. But both are leaning on society to dictate their thoughts to them.

      futurestoryteller, I think your method of writing women with the assumption that men and women really aren't all that different is heads and shoulders above the scripts that Hollywood often produces. Though women do have many different experiences than men in their day-to-day lives that shape us and our perspectives, when it all comes down to it: all people really want the same things. Plus, any time any author writes a character of course they would think "how might this character's experience shape who they have become?", so it's really the same thing either sex. It's better to do as you describe, and work from a perspective that women aren't somehow a different creature, but inherently the same.

    Ugh, the boyfriend made my skin crawl too much to laugh. I've spent too much time stuck around live-in-their-mom's-basement sort of creeps who think they're entitled to a woman just because they have a penis, breathe, and they've singled her out and no phrasing of "I'm not interested" or even "I will murder you" will get them to stop trying to put their arm around you or give their oh so important opinion on your level of attractiveness. Because in their mind they're entitled to you and you just don't realize how badly you want them yet, and the reason they can't get laid is because women are snobs and/or the universe is against them. Just ugh! Next guy I meet like that is getting it in the balls.

    • @futurestoryteller
      @futurestoryteller Před 6 lety +61

      The weird thing is the guy in the video doesn't _act_ like that at all, and when I was working with a guy who did, sometimes, act that way, and lived with his mom, because he was young, one of my best friends and co-workers confessed to me years later that she had slept with him - because he was young, and fit, and attractive - while she had a boyfriend no less, because she "wanted to. " She wasn't even mad at her boyfriend either. Saying "But he cheated on me anyway, so fuck him." then I asked her "So you were pissed about that too then?" And she said "No, I didn't know about it."
      I'm just saying, all guys have to do is _look_ like the guy in this video and lots of women have the same reaction you've had - no harassment necessary. Which I think is reflected in the reaction itself.
      Take this from a guy desperately clinging to a feminist ideology amid a torrent of braindead internet bigots, who would take the story I just told you and try to spin it into "typical women's behavior." I've had all kinds of experiences that could fill a less discerning man with all sorts of horrible stereotypes about every kind of person there is. But I resist it, because I'm aware that my experiences are anecdotal, and that I have more negative memories associated with many people, because apparently we all remember those easier.
      I'm just saying, maybe you're not doing the same thing? Next time the frumpy, chubby hairy dude smiles at you, are you going to be like "He might be a nice guy?" even if you still wouldn't fuck him. Or "Ew, gross?" Because of your experience with "People like that" in the past - even though you've never met the guy before? Like, now I feel bad for the guy in the video, because of what you said, when he's obviously in this for well-intended reasons.

    • @BeneathFullMoon
      @BeneathFullMoon Před 6 lety +119

      +futurestoryteller I understand your reasoning and I don't think you're wrong, but I do agree with her.
      It's not about being shy, geeky, insecure or socially anxious, but there are little things women are unfortunately very used to recognizing, and this actor most likely tried to convey. (Since his character is obviously displayed in a negative way, as well as... pretty much everything else in this video, for comedic and critical purposes.)
      We do have to be extra careful about who we're nice (yes, just minimally nice) to. I'm a naturally polite person with everyone and I relate best to people with unique interests, and I used to always give the "weird guy" nobody talked to a shot. How bad can he be?... Turns out I was wrong, and the women around me simply already had developed the defenses I hadn't.
      Being nice to every guy I meet has already gotten me into awful situations. Not just one, but two stalkers, finding out private stuff about me, sending things to my house, ignoring how much I was threatened by them even though I feared for my LIFE, just because by rejecting them I was "hurting their feelings", and that's their focus. All because I was nice to them once, or had one or two 10 seconds conversations when nobody else would.
      It's a defense mechanism, and it sucks that I can't give everyone a shot, but that's just how it works. As a woman, my safety can be threatened by being nice, and I hate it, and I hate the men that made me fearful, but I have to protect myself, she has to protect herself, and every woman who didn't speak to those men had to protect themselves. That's why we're "snobs", because we fear for our safety.
      (Not saying every guy that can be tagged as weird is definitely a bad person, just saying women have gotten used to recognizing the little sings that some men can be more than just weird. Also, I don't think she referred specifically to his looks, but to the character the actor tried to convey.)

    Plot Twist: Steve is Transgender.

    • @Rampala
      @Rampala Před 7 lety +13

      That makes no sense. If "Steve" is trans then he's a transman. If you're joking that "Steve" is actually a woman, you need to educate yourself on trans issues, because purposely misgendering someone (Yes, even for the sake of a shitty joke) is offensive.

    • @747t
      @747t Před 7 lety +10

      Actually Rampala, who are you to tell Steve what his gender is? If he's transgender, that means he simply doesn't conform to the assignment of his gender based on the traditional binary stereotypes. You just possibly misgendered him.. or... whatever pronoun Steve identifies as...! I personally identify as grape, and I'm offended.

    • @747t
      @747t Před 7 lety +3

      Can we focus on stopping violence and hate against trans people, and people in general, instead of trying to center ourselves in a society in which some of us are honestly in such a very small minority, we literally shouldn't BE centered? Love is the answer, not more vitriol, not self centering, not spite, not lecturing in a reactionary, hostile tone, not taking personal offense because someone hasn't dedicated their lives to eliminating what you perceive as your personal oppression because you can't be who you want to be publicly, which has nothing to do with your phenotype but with how you choose to express and define yourself outwardly. Black people are still harassed for simply being black, and we can't hide our skin. What do you use in place of he or she? And don't tell me to let everyone make up their own. That's stupid, and a waste of my limited time on earth. If I am humble enough to accept a pronoun for myself, why aren't you? Do I request to be called "His Royal Highness", and expect everyone to acquiesce? Do I throw a fit when they don't and shame them?? Do I learn a new pronoun for every single person I meet? That's what names are for, for unique identification. You can give yourself any name. For the entirety of human history, in every culture there have been two gender pronouns, and sex and gender have been linked. This was part of no grand conspiracy, but is our natural state which some have now decided to challenge to make themselves more comfortable. Gender and sex being separate is a new thing. Two spirit Native Americans were still two spirit man, and two spirit woman. Love everyone, stop judgment, eliminate hate. And stop your DAMN entitlement to my attention! He, she, and if you push me... IT. False and presumptive and oppressive associations with gender are what need to be eliminated, not gender. I am happy to mansplain this as much as you need to get it through your thick, entitled, sexually frustrated skull.

    • @lucstockdale
      @lucstockdale Před 7 lety +25

Just people who were different, I'm told I need to have 'class' and when I ask people why my brother can fart out loud and have no one care, or he can play video games all day and not lift a finger and it being fine, they tell me it's because he's a boy. I'm like who the fuck does that make ANY sense!?! Guys are just people with dick and girls are just people with vaginas (I don't see why people consider it a bad word).

Take that 80s movie Valley Girl, it was written by men, yet a had tens of minutes-long of teenage girl talk about boys and stuff that you couldn't tell from your average 17-year-old chick talk you overhear at the mall. Which just goes to show that you don't have to be a woman to observe how women talk and re-depict that, in the same way you don't have to be an old man to depict old people behaving and talking like old people.

      And Bridesmaids. It was written by the same guy. Men can't write women correctly. Yes we are catty, and occasionally vapid, but we are also diabolical and there is a lot of humor in that. Example: Mean Girls written by Tina Fey.

      I literally watched Ghostbusters yesterday, and it doesn't suck at all. It's not a classic, but good fun, and the second half is excellent.
      Most who said they hated either hadn't seen or were simply misogynists.
