STORYLINE:
Injured Ukrainian military personnel show the toll the war is taking on the people of Ukraine.
As Russian forces continue to push forward in their invasion in the eastern region of Donbas, Ukrainian servicemen are fighting hard in order to hold the line and slow the invading troops.
They are doing it at great cost.
It is unclear how many casualties or injured soldiers Ukraine armed forces have so far sustained since the beginning of the invasion as the government does not release any official figure.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on June 2nd that between 450 and 500 soldiers are injured, and up to one hundred people could be dying every day in the east.
On the frontlines in the Bakhmut area, part of Donetsk region, volunteer paramedics rush to respond to calls from the army to evacuate injured soldiers, as well as civilians.
The group of medics say they often come under shelling themselves, therefore they hide in the woods.
A volunteer medic told the AP the majority of the soldiers report wounds caused by heavy artillery fire.
The medic, who goes by the nom de guerre of Skif, said heavy artillery is the reason behind almost 90% of the wounded.
Soldiers are taken to the first aid station in the nearest city to be stabilized and then they are transferred to a bigger, better equipped hospital far from the frontlines.
In the Donbas region, Russia-backed separatists have fought the Ukrainian government since 2014.
Medics and soldiers on the frontlines say this time Russia is using an increased amount of resources, both in terms of soldiers and weapons, including airpower and long-range missiles.

One time a friend in military told me "Moses never ever wish to join army because its a very complicated institution, you go to war to kill an "enemy" someone you have never met, someone you have never had a quarrel with and yet is an enemy! your job is to kill him before he kills you" I was a young boy then but that message sank deep into my ears and in my 50s I still remember that statement.
I do not know what Moses had said, but I used to say the exact same thing to my sons. Unless the enemy has killed your family then that's an entirely different story.

However on the Ukrainian side there is plenty evidence that US-NATO-EU had tremendous influence on the thread of events. (2004-2005 Orange Revolutions, 2014 Victoria Nuland - Ambassador Pyatt conversation etc.)
There are rumours coming lately that Zelensky got some phone calls and visits from Johnson and Blinken after the Istanbul negotiations and he gave up talks after that.
You might be right on the fact that Russia invested way too much lives and costs just to go away right now. Without seeing some returns on their investments.

Western Ukraine wanted EU-membership while Eastern Ukraine wanted better relations with Russia. Do not forget that millions of Ukrainians speak Russian and in the East they have family and economic relations with Russia.
Ukraine was ruled by corrupt criminal regimes under Yushchenko and Timoshenko, under Yanukovich, under Poroshenko and right now under Zelensky as well.
Zelensky came to power promising a few things, i.e.: getting rid of corruption, making peace with Donbass an eliminating the outrageous language law. His support was about 70% that time.
He kept neither of his promises. Ukraine remained corrupt, the Donbass war continued and the language law were strenghtened. By december 2021. his support dwindled into some 23%.
And do you really believe when the US promises them a NATO membership (2008) and Victoria "Fuck the EU" Nuland speaks about who will be the next prime minister of Ukraine ("Yatz, not Clich" 2014) weeks before Euromaidan and the coup d'état the US-NATO-EU had no hand in these events? Of course all of them enticed Ukrainians in a chess game against Russia.
And it started way earlier. sometime in 2004, through indirect ways (NGOs) that time.
(My personal belief is that Ukraine's real interest would be having good economic relations with both the EU and Russia. But that won't happen and mostly because of the Hegemon.)

- russia supported these with training, weapons and troops, creating a sedition
- simultaniously russian troops occupied crimea and annexed it into the russian state.
- Seperatists and Ukrainan state forces+militia where fighting a civil war in the east...with the seperatists still and since 2014 receiving arms and troops from russia...
