So many people hate on Kirk for using the wah “too much” which apparently takes “no skill”. Idgaf it still sounds amazing and that’s what matters. He definitely knows when and where to play it to make it sound good.
I agree, I give no fuck if something is easy to play or not. If it sounds good, it is quality music and that is it.
He uses it as a crutch to mask his sloppy playing. Kirk does not shred.
Everyone thinks its easy, they see people master his solos on CZcams by themselves in their room under perfect circumstances/conditions. Doing it in front of sold out stadiums\
arenas\outdoor venues where EVERY eye there is on you or its raining or windy is a totally different ballgame. Every guitar player in the history of ever has had a flaw, its what makes them unique and helps separate them.

whole band is KILLING it in this performance. I can't believe how good Metallica is sounding nowadays... I totally lost interest in them (at least live recordings/new stuff) for like 10 years, but Hardwired brought me back and finally seeing them live fully reignited my love for them. it's awesome to see them at the top of their game after all this time.

I am 28 years old. I was born 2 months after the Black Album was released. I am also a performing musician. Metallica has been my one and only love since the age of 13. They have been more important to me than most things should be to an adolescent. So, more than half of my life has been a study of Metallica and as a student and fan, I only have one negative critique for the Metal Gods (METALLICA); Lars Ulrich playing live.
Fans have adapted to the way James and Kirk play certain riffs live vs. the album and will acknowledge them, but it's random odds when it comes to Lars Ulrich.
The tempo is always rushed. Always. The drum fills can occasionally call back to previous LIVE performances, but almost never truly replicate the album. While I can see from the perspective of a live artist, I also cannot help but see from the eyes of a purist.
It is to my understanding that when you capture lighning in a bottle, you need to understand why certain rhythms, percussion, melodies, syncopations, and simple coincidence lead to such heights. Things happened exactly as they were supposed to happen in order to create that particular moment in your memory. When something that is slight or seemingly subtle changes about that memory is altered, the initial effect is altered. Therefore, the personal interpretation of the art has a different impact on the individual than originally perceived.
In this particular case, I wanted to hear a live version of "Wherever I May Roam", but in essence, I heard Lars Ulrich's version of "Wherever I May Roam."
