The Fishing Here Is INSANE!! - Weipa Barra Tournament Part 1

- Something a little bit different this week, we head north and fish a barra tournament in my favorite place to fish in Australia! The tournament was run over 2 days by Tackleworld Weipa and was judged by length with a 5 fish bag limit per angler. We had never fished this area and were completely blown away with the options with Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, Mangrove Jack, Tripletail and a few other species hitting the deck, this is how the first day played out. Keep an eye out for part 2 next week!

Thanks man, yeah this is only a third of what we actually caught, I foolishly lost a go pro and when I replaced it I was too tight to replace the memory card and I used my spare so I had to selectively film stuff.. when I got the triple I wasn’t even wearing the camera 😅 that triple was in the creek mouth, closest to land one I’ve caught!

Hahah my kids have been hassling me to get them some but it’s always sold out. Saw it in the Woolworths at weipa so had to have a crack… it’s not all it’s cracked up to be aye, rather drink straight cordial 😆

Hey Mick I've been getting into fishing lately and want to get a new baitcaster and rod. Could you tell me the reel and rod that you use along with the type of line you use plus its poundage. Thank you love the videos to.
I run a Dobyns Champion Extreme, very high end with a price tag to match but seriously look at the Dobyns Fury range, they’re around the $300 price point but have a lifetime expediter warranty which means it doesn’t matter if you accidentally put it in the fan or slam it in the car door, you can take your broken rod into the shop and pick up a new one for half price. That’s the best thing with the Dobyns rods! As for line I run 30lb and 40lb Sunline Castaway on all my baitcast reels.

Yeah mate it is, but it’s a higher end Japanese braid which doesn’t have the coating that fuses the strands together, instead each individual strand is coated before it’s braided which makes for a softer and more supple line which adds the lures action by cutting through the water better, it’s also significantly thinner which helps maintain lure depth on the retrieve and you will feel a lot more due to less drag.
