Transitioning from heavy metal guitar to bass and I love how you simplify it so well with out making it feel dumbed down at all. Awesome videos, awesome teaching. Can't wait to learn more
The white background makes it look like Mark is in heaven.
Well, at least that's where he'll be because of the help he provides us with.
You bring us back to the percussion connection where we should begin and end as the rhythm section.. there is room for signature expression and syncopation working together.. but only after arriving at consistency and aquiring the discipline to know the difference-- Thanks for another great class..
Dear Mark, a great thanks you for all the YT-help you give! I'm a starting singing bassbabe (that nickname was given to me by the guiarplayer of the funchoir I sing with), I am an autodidact with few guitar autodidact skills. So I started from kinda zero and now I can basic play along with half of the songs we sing. I figure out what root where to play and that's a hell of a job for my not so super musically talents.
Your help with your vids is absolutely a diamond for me. It helps me a lot to play more than just basic altough I have to keep it very basic due to also singing.
In the non-sing-music-times in the songs I can make the bass line more interesting and I love it.
I have 2 friends: my Bass and my Mark 😎
You gave me whole new perspective of how the bass adds a improved groove to a song
I feel so fortunate to be able to access and learn from this great instructor. He touches on so many different and important points. The position in the car relating to the feel of the beat was a great analogy. If you seriously want to increase your knowledge and playing ability this is the guy to help you do it.
Excellent teaching again and very practical tools to apply! Thanks a lot, Mark!
Excellent lesson! Very helpful! It’s so important to build these fundamentals! Thanks!
I love you man!! Your explanations are absolutely killer! And you're not trying to showcase and sell equipment like many other instructional bass sites. Really great stuff!!
I watch lots of your lessons and you're by far my favorite bass teacher online
I never really checked the website for some reason and just created an account, I'm so glad I did! It's so clear and useful. For a "room musician who never thought it was important to learn theory but who suddenly felt the urge to take music skills to the next level without being able to take class due to studies taking too much of my free time", your chanel and website are just perfect!
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot Mark!! As a starter bassist I picked up a lot of tricks from your video. Keep up the great teaching!
Great insight into the mechanics of "feel." You are a great teacher
Really cool demonstration that helps me to understand bass a lot more. Thanks!
As a beginning bass player, I love that repeating pedal note bass line with the octave played on the off beat with the ring finger. Luckily, I do some finger picking guitar, so after some practice, I got it relatively clean. Just that little thing makes the whole line more fun to play & listen to. A lesson with a whole lot of other things to learn too. Very nice :)
I follow your tutorials..U are an AWESOME trainer..
Thank You !!
BIG Thankyou!! That explained sooo much!! Keep them coming
Love your bass - it reminds me of the old Ibanez basses I would drool over as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. I have a SR506, but it isn't that sweet teal color!
Love the way you teach, the depth of your knowledge and willingness to share it. You’ve asked for songs we’d like to have you transcribe and I think a vulfpeck song with bassist joe dart would be awesome. Something like their version of “Disco Ulysses”, “dean town” or “i lost my treble long ago” would be awesome to hear your explanation and side notes of joes groove. Anyways hopefully you see this and either way I look forward to anything you put out. Stay up.
Great lesson Mark! Tons of good information ... thanks!
thanks for saying that about leaving room for the snare to breathe! i recently recorded a simple bass line that did that but now i understand why it sounded good.
Simply the best on ytube! Thank you Mark.
you really help me, My guitarits said that I have to write my own bass line with his chord and the drum rythm and with your help it fits pretty well !
Youre awesome man,, you're instructions are bar none digestible, thank you!!..I play with the kick, or the start of the count lock in, and play with the crash and the hi hat all at different times of sometimes in conjunction with, I'm not playing with a guitarist tho, so it leaves room for improv and solo pieces.
all your videos rock Mark
thank you very much you have a special way to teach, I like it, thanks again!!

Helpful! Thanks a lot man✊
thank you very much. It helps me alot
very much simple and helpful
This really helped me more than I can say.
very good thank you this is exactly what I was wondering how to do play along with a song in a band that plays off chords with not other guide and being new to bass I didn't know how to create and bass line for the song. Question? Are you muting the string with your pinky after you play the note to shorten the sustain?
Great lesson. Looks like you were jamming bass on a safari though when you made this video
best bass tuition on youtube
great lesson tanks
Awesome series and video, thanks :)

Most important bass lesson in my life.

Awesome lesson. I wish you had counted out the other drum beats like you did the first one.

Wow what a video
If you played bass in a band
With keys and guitar and drums would you expect to hear your bass
I am at the very bottom of the mix in the band not hearing any of my notes except my E noat it's like playing and I am deaf been playing bass 6 years
Last 2 years when keys were added I have been a silent bass player finding the groove not there any suggestions it's depressing thank you
How can u get this backing track
how do we stay enthused?
Lordy!

watched this today, September 22, 2022
Was this guy the bassist for The Wiggles? He looks familiar
what bass is that??
It's Ibanez Soundgear. Since it has Accu-Cast BIV bridge, it's from the first half of 90's, and the model is... I'd say SR1000.
Those embellishments kinda flex tho
The bass drum is hitting on 4, but your bit i s not, so it makes it hard to read the notation. It is easy by ear, harder to see how we are locking in.
just wish the songs being used weren't so corny.. lol. Didn't matter though, the information was really good for this newbie trying to unlearn bad habits and relearn proper methods for writing basslines
best school on y.tube...unfortunately in English!!!
Too much talking and time consuming
This is very good not only for bass players but also for bass programmers who have to program bass lines.
