I teach 8 week CWI preparation courses at the local Lone Star College in Houston; even 8 weeks is not enough time to get the proper training. What you guys said in this video is true, good job.
Which campus are you teaching these prep course? What's the tuition?
Im from Dayton TX ive been a pipe fitter for years and i would like to become a CWI what lone star are you located at?
AWS web site used to suggest and maybe still does 8 to 15 hours week of study for 1 year. When I went to seminar half the class was retaking the test and a bunch of guys hadn't even prepared. This exam is no joke. Best thing I ever did for my career.
Should an inspector know how to weld? Hell yes. Buy the books, buy the work book's turn off your phone and get to work.
Thank you guys so much. I just started my 2nd weld job (first was before weld school) I’m at General Electric now but I want the most out of this career and this clarifies so much for me to start looking at what I need to do. Just letting y’all know that this one video is helping shape people’s lives and there families in more positive ways then you know. Thank you
Just passed my CWI with real education services. Great school
@@stillirise505 yes, before you go to your seminar trying you Must already know you Fundamentals, part A. Part B will test your will to continue. Part C is the easiest..
Took mine with Real Educational Services back on 2011, passed it first go round scored over 80 percent on all 3 parts, hands down best 2 week training you can get. I can also tell you they have several other classes that will help you become a well rounded CWI. After you get that card and stamp it's on you to really learn how to become a CWI.
thank you for the info , raised as an union iron worker NY 40, 580 , then florida 272 miami and 397 tampa ,,, now im on my own ... thinking of going for CWI ...much tips thank you 👊😎 ONCE AND DONE mobile welding !!!
I took mine in December of 2016. I passed all three sections on the first attempt. It was extremely tricky. The market is currently flooded with inexperienced individuals whom call themselves “inspectors” and it is continuously driving down the pay rates.
If you want to pass the first time, I highly recommend taking the 80 hr prep course with REAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES!
@michael Orr I have to disagree, Gerald and Linda Taylor are very helpful. And they really care about your success. It does take a lot of hard work and dedication.
Great job in explaining the CWI process!!
Daryl Peterson, AWS SCWI, ASNT Level III, API 653, SSPC PCI Level II
I’m studying for my CWI. Man it’s tough, a lot of information and formulas to remember. And I haven’t even started on the part B. It’s 60 college hrs. Total
Hobart is an extremely great school!!! I know tons of people who passed from taking the class at Hobart. Jus saying
Had similar experience with 7 day course here in Texas. Lots of story time. Not enough Part B, thus I failed part B. Waiting to take it again. Like the way Parts A and C are done now with Prometrics.
Base line data in Corpus Christi is a great school too. I passed mine with them. JW Ralls has his share of story time but gets you prepared for the exam.
*Portland, Tx and Aransas Pass, Tx just to be exact.
I’m from Ingleside, Tx 5 minutes from both AP and GP and I live 20 minutes away from Corpus Christi. Great school for anyone on the coast of Texas looking to take the CWI Exam!
@@rickytello7680 thinking about taking the night classes. i live here in corpus.
@@CAPEROLA123 2 weeks for the day class ( 8hrs a day ) and 1 month for the night class ( 4hrs a night ). Cost for course and test is 3,074 roughly last time I took it
Your read my Mind only 2 more years if experience and I’m going for it 🙏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
respect for teachers cause i've had to teach some courses at work and everyone learns diffrent and i had to try to exsplain things in away that everyone could understand what i was trying to teach its hard
Sound like it’s time for me to also give it a try. I’m thinking January of next year I’d feel confident. I did a 10 month welding program 3 years ago,
I've had Scwi since 17 in army, passed all 1 day whole course retested and same 100% 1 day all tests and welding tests
I listened to this podcast then found the video. Didn't put two and two together. Jason, did looking at weld defects on a daily basis while teaching help you on the part B test? Excluding the interpretation of the "fake" code book and photos on NDT. I'm in the depths of studying for my initial exam. But also teaching at a local college.
had a similar experience at Hobart, drove all the way from Baton Rouge to Troy, OH. But what pisses me off is how you can pay that amount for Code Book and Fundamentals, but not as much training for the Practical.
I ve taken aws, then real education, real education by far light years ahead and put me ahead.
Extremely hard test with a 6 grade education I passed major headache once I left testing
Any recommendations for training classes in or near North Carolina?
Is the CWS certification as tough to get as the CWI?
does any one know if i need any other certification before the cwi ??? some one told me that if i dont have the icc and aws i will not be able to get the cwi ...is that correct ???
omg... and i didnt think you could find nerdier weldo's outside of a cwi seminar.
update; I take the snarky sound from that remark back and replace it with more fun loving ribbing that back, didnt know you had a union bro on
AWS website states that with an Associates Degree in welding you need minimum 2 years of welding work experience. My question is if your second year of that welding degree was also your first year of welding work via an internship does that count as only needing one more year of work experience? Or is it two years of work after the date of receiving the Associates degree? Thanks for any insight, anyone!
SI Certs is legit. I passes my first try with flying colors.
@@panchocruz6895 The class is good for 3 months I went through it multiple times
im looking into the online class by them as well. the thing that attracts me to SI Certs is, like you said, the class being good for 3 months. that way you can do it over and over again. otherwise id probably prefer an in-person course.
Advice on entry level cwi jobs? Everything I’m seeing wants prior experience.
I’m not cwi yet but I’m studying. Also looking into ndt!
1st 👍
One day id like to be a cwi! 👍
So what be my first step in this whole processes? Besides taking the test like starting welding school or what. ( im 18 btw)
Need 5 years of experience in the field bro I'm 20 about to be 21 soon been welding about 3 years now 2 more then in going for it to be a cwi
The first step is going to a welding school for stick mig and tig of you haven't yet. 2nd step is getting a welding job. My advice is to go the aerospace route. Its top pay and your in a clean environment with air conditioning. Only saying that because working out side stick welding pipe or structural sucks ass bad... noone wants that hard life. So get your school and a job. Then maybe look into aerospace class or a company that hires entry level aerospace welders.
You don't have to be a welder. You can be a QA Tech, NDT Tech, Engineer etc.. As long as you're in the welding field. The girl next to me in class was PE from New York. She got sent by her company so she could inspect welds in new construction and repairs/upgrades to existing structures.
Navy taught me...Im a ole terd chaser HT, been 32 years now and still burning rods
I would recommend taking the class with Ed Norman through AWS, I passed with flying colors
Ed Norman is awesome! "It is what it is until it isn't and then it's not." -Ed Norman
Wish I would of realised Part B would be the hardest for me.
You’ve all missed the point entirely. The classes aren’t there to teach you how to pass the exams, they are there to help you become comfortable navigating through the information to be able to quickly find the information to pass the exams. The part B is a fake code book, you should be able to flip through it and spot the screwy information, those will be test questions. Pull out your vwac gauge and your six inch rule and fillet gauges, that’s all you need to measure the undercut, porosity and weld sizes during the exam.
can someone who has taken the test tell the price of test please. Thanks in advance
I went to Hobart it was not story time its what you put into it if you don’t pass it the first time that’s on you… Hobart prepares you to pass your first time lol
Real education is using the old code books for the studying as well. Why would they make you study a book you're not testing on? Im about to take the ten day class and am super worried coming into it from the 30day pre class material that is inaccurate.
So for EMT and Paramedic you need an at least an 80% to pass, is the CWI test similar?
Ive got a degree in healthcare, but just got my first welder, a Hobart handler 140. Just dinking around with it right now.. Its awesome though. Gluing metal is pretty bad ass.
First project is an exhaust hanger, second is wheel tubs. The third is looking into welding school/certifications.
Okay okay, the 3rd is actually the rockers, 4th is the rear bash bar, 5th is stitch welding the chassis, 6th is the half cage.. This list is too long to type
Anybody know, what is different between cwi and cswip?. and what is the best certification for inspector who work for aerospace industries?
CWI is American, CSWIP is UK based. Both certifications can be used in the aerospace industry.
if you want to work abroad, go for cswip, it is well recognised in many countries
Whats good man did you ever join michigan ironworkers local i passed by the way when we where in ellijay
@@stephenlittle1307 O no the second time. First time I went was just to learn how to work through the books. They are great teachers be ready for the challenge from them they push you.
I have to get this certification I want it I am going to take this course with realeducation anyone have any great advice other than study hard! 15years in the field
Jazzhands?
I want my cwi so bad!!!
Thank you for the videos. Composite of 89
Anyone taken SICERTS online course?
Question : can someone with NDT experience be eligible for CWI ?
Yes, Tyson a CWI with an NDE background makes a better Inspector than a production welder!
Hello guys, is having a degree in mechanical engineering a bonus for cwi?
I have a BS in ME. Did NDT for about 20 years. Taking the pre seminar online course. Half way thru. First, take it. Math will not be a problem. Your labs on breaking things are good. Your metallurgy classes and even strengths and materials are useful. Some of the rote memorization will be a pain. ME is a problem-solving degree, The course is 70 hr. I have found that it seems to take 2x of that. Good luck.
If you have never welded then the closed book portion might be difficult. There is a lot you need to know about welding processes, fillers, gasses, base metals etc.. It also has to be memorized. The other 2 parts are open book.
Did you pass? Today is July 17.
Flash Reviews AWS takes their time. Won’t know for another 4 weeks.
Want be a CWI
Jason with all do respect i know this is a little off topic but from one welder to another how do you not burn that beard? ( if mine so much as peaks past my hood its onfire)
Nitro I typically use my Outlaw leather hood which pretty much keeps it covered. When I use any other hood, I have a hood bib that extends far enough to keep it covered. You can see it in the Rapid Arc Rapid X Video.
No pass.. Aws exam
passed the fundamentals, the 1104 code book, failed the practical the 3rd time. I officially give up.
hello bro
"needs an errata"..... #warhammmerfan?
Seems like every yahoo is making a video about being a CWI. Maybe I should make one as I forgot more about welding than any of these guys will ever know.
It's okay saying this but what if you are like me I'm dislexic and if I was in America I would not be able to pass because of it.
That's up to you to learn to deal with man my father was dyslexic as well but he had help in learning to read and write properly he still has some trouble every now n then but you can definitely learn to do things! Don't give up!
@@anotherrandomtexan25 we as far as I know don't have that qualification here in the uk
Definitely dont like the weld devils thing
Hobart is overrated I'm my honest opinion.
Have you been there? If not you cant say.. because they HOOK YOU UP WHEN YOUR DONE(:
Took the class, failed the first test, failed the retest, took the class again (same guy - Lynn Sturgill, looks exactly like J.K. Simmons) and passed the third try... Probably one of my favorite accomplishments
Congrats Zach. It's not an easy task!
I finally got my cwi 16 hours for Part B with WTTI in PA. This was not my second time.
