  • I am reviewing the BJU Press Elementary Spanish curriculum called El Pasaporte al espanol Kit A. I'm giving an overview of the curriculum, letting you know what we love about it, sharing some important things to consider before you purchase it, letting you know if I'd go back and purchase it with my own money knowing what I know now and, at the very end, I'm sharing a little tip about the workbooks.

    So helpful! Do you remember about how long each video lesson was?

    Thanks for posting this. I have been interested in this curriculum for a while from the catalog/online. The ONLY thing that holds me back is that the video component only covers one out of three years. I don't have the time to devote to facilitating/teaching Spanish without a video to anchor the program for my kids. I so wish BJU Press would create videos for the subsequent years!! Sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to learn Spanish for the glory of God.

    Thank you for posting this video, Janelle. It's exactly what I'm looking for! After watching your video, I actually came across a used set. I purchased it; however, it's missing the CDs, DVDs, and read-aloud books. Do you have any recommendations on how I can get a hold of those items? The BJU site appears to only sell the worktexts separately.

    Thank you so much for your review! The price tag has me hesitant but I really think I should really try to fit it in our budget this year

    BJU also has another set of Spanish curriculum, called Spanish1, 2, etc. If purchased from Christian Books.com the kit is half the price. Keep in mind their other Spanish curriculum is for upper elementary or middle school and up. But for littles you could still just use the vocabulary from it. Not as cute and not a Distance Learning type kit ( but they do have audio CD's)

    Janelle, I found your channel a few months ago and have really enjoyed your videos. The whole time I kept thinking she looks so familiar. I finally got a bee in my bonnet and looked in my yearbooks and found you! We went to school together (Ashley Thompson). This Spanish reveiw was perfect timing as I am considering Spanish curriculum for next year. But yowzers, that price point is like Rosetta Stone! For anyone else who is interested, I recently found Language Learning At Home (heard her on The Read Aloud Revivals podcast and she has a FB community and recently she did a few 'roundups' of Spanish, French and Latin homeschool curriculums. A really in depth list. Anyway love all your videos and sage advice! We finished up our 4th year of homeschooling today. Yay summer!

    We recently purchased this through a HomeWorks by Precept consultant. Even though we get to keep the DVDs, this was considered a DLO course. Between multiple kids, we purchased enough DLO courses to qualify for a per course discount and were able to get this Spanish Kit for half off. That is something to consider if you are also thinking about using other BJU DLO classes.

    Thank you for sharing. I plan on getting this for next year. How many lessons were included? Also, did you have to return the DVD’s after the program?

    I totally forgot to say BJU wasn’t at the only homeschool conference in Mississippi that I know about. I was so bummed. Spanish is very much a priority for me and I wanted my hubby to look at the kit to talk him into it. At least I have your two videos! Lol. In the meantime I’ll keep trolling eBay. Blessings from this momma of 2!

    I had no idea BJU had a younger elementary Spanish . Thanks for posting. I only have one kiddo left on elementary so I probably would not be using thier DVDs again, not with any littles at least but I wonder if I could purchase bits and parts of this younger Spanish to make it less $?

    El Espanol Facil also focuses on the missionary component of learning Spanish which also includes learning Bible verses in Spanish and studying of cultures Spanish speaking countries. It has the book and audio videos written from elementary level to high school. Much cheaper compared to BJU. But honestly I’m beginning to find it not as exciting as I thought it would be. Both for me and my son. I’m going to give it another year and reevaluate. Thank you for your review.

    The price tag would be steep for us, but I do love the Biblical component. Thanks so much for doing this review. Great information. 😊

    Great review, Janelle! Thanks for all the info! So, I am wondering where to start with this curriculum for next year...? My daughter is finishing 3rd grade and has had one class of intro elementary Spanish this year (1x a week at class day, plus practice at home). So she's basically had practice with basic vocabulary, listening, and speaking. Would you recommend starting with Kit A or start with Kit B? I also have an incoming Kindergartner next year, so she could potentially join in too...thanks!

    • @JanelleKnutson
      @JanelleKnutson  Před 6 lety

      Allison Wardrip I think Kit A would still be a good place to start. You can then decide if you want to start with step 1 or step 2 or 3 after you get the kit. Remember though that only step 1 has video lessons.

  • @sandstorme1363
    @sandstorme1363 Před 6 lety +1

    You noted that there's only one years worth of video per lesson with Mrs. Cox. Do you do well after having no video guide? Also, does kit B bring a video as well?
    Such a helpful video!

    • @JanelleKnutson
      @JanelleKnutson  Před 6 lety +1

      I have only used Step 1 (which has the video portion) from Kit A. I haven't tried using Step 2 and 3 on my own yet. I am not sure if Kit B has a video component or not.

    Hey Janelle 😊 What Spanish program have you used with your older kids? I have a daughter going into the 9th grade that I need a Spanish curriculum for.

    • @JanelleKnutson

      Kelly Albertson we used Rosetta Stone. We didn’t hate it or love it. It just got the job done although we didn’t think it covered Spanish grammar well enough. My oldest also took Spanish through our local community college for dual credit.

      Janelle Knutson I'm planning to do the free online SALSA Spanish next year with my second grader but have had my eye on this kit. It's just too expensive for an elementary elective for us. But I agree it looks terrific!

      The Complete Book of Spanish is under $15 and it's fun. Moms can use CZcams to learn how to pronounce the vocabulary words.
