  • Hey guys this is a new trip report from myself. This is a trip report onboard one of Great Western Railways new class 800 Intercity Express Train.
I was traveling from London Paddington which is the terminus for the Great Western Main Line and was traveling to Cardiff Central the capital city of wales. My journey takes 2 hours and 8 minutes.
My thoughts on the new trains are that they are very well built to the touch and this can be seen from the design being very streamline and modern. The interior is well designed and it is interesting that it has been designed so that the quiet coach does not have an engine underneath it meaning it is a real quiet coach. The seats were firm however I didn’t realise this after about 50 seconds of being on these trains. All and all an excellent train built by hitachi well done
The Journey it self was very pleasent and the first class lounge at London Paddington was spectacular. Food on the train didn’t have a wide variety however the train journey was under 3 hours so it was a substantial amount.
I very much recommend traveling on these new trains in first class as it was worth the amount of money that I paid for my ticket.
Hope you enjoy the video and leave your thoughts In the comment section and if your new to the channel and you like what you see please subscribe as much more content to come.
    Thanks for watching

I've been on the Class 800/0 IET, Class 800/3 IET and also the Class 802/1 IET I think as well this year. On Monday this week, I've been on probably the Class 800/3 IET or Class 802/1 IET from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads and on Wednesday this week, I went on the Class 800/0 IET (formed of 10-coaches with 2 5-coaches coupled together) on the way back from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington. Both the journeys I've taken are excellent and the Class 800 and Class 802 IETs are one of the best new trains I've been on and love them to bits.

The investment in upgrades and new trains has been tremendous in the past couple of years or so, and nowhere has it been more evident than on GWR. The last HST's finish on the 18th May and the 93rd and final train for GWR will be in service which is an 802/1 9 car set. But, still the same old issues with delays and cancellations, but for those you'd have a first class service. Love the video, wish there was an onboard clip we could see if ever that happens.

Fabulous video, Mate! I've been to this Class 800 from November 2nd 2019, where I was going to leave London Paddington then Cardiff Central Square. My experience was great, but I don't care about my experience. This video gives us flashback during 2018, giving memories, recognize them and more. It's great to subscribe to your channel because of all of your content about trains looks really fun, to be honest. Class 800/0 IET was also great when I had my first time going to a train called 'First Great Western.' Back from 2014, I had my beautiful experience about going to London Heathrow then Cardiff Central Square.
This video deserves alike and subscribe.

I totally agree with you. London Paddington is a very aesthetically pleasing station to look at however, with this being in the height of summer and the station having glass roof it was quite warm. London Kings Cross is one of my favourite stations as well.

Firm seats, very diplomatically put. The searts are as soft as granite and the build quality on some of them is shocking . GWR Class800 and 802 are the Pacer of long distance trains.

Sadly I have to agree with Roger Cripps, although there are other spelling (coach’s? ‘Our last top in England’, ‘complementary’) and grammatical errors which are not immediately obvious. Not a lover of the soundtrack in parts and one particular caption is too long to be read in the time it is on screen. Not exactly an in-depth review.

Hi Geoffrey. Unfortunately I am going to have to disagree with you on your comment. The whole point in me doing a trip report in first class is to showcase the product that Great Western Railway offer and not just the train journey its self. You can pick up some quite cheap tickets even in first class if you book in advance, up to 12 weeks before the departure date. Great Western Railway standard class isn't worth doing a trip report as all I would be doing is showcasing the scenery and nothing more.

I think these 800series IET trains are terrible compared with the 40 year old HST. Hard uncomfortable seats, poor interior design no buffet car, a very poor ride especially at 125mph when the train rattles and vibrates. Some of the coaches have lose panels which also rattle. Cheap and nasty trains and I will be surprised if they last 10 years let alone 40. The Japanese can build superb advanced trains but Hitachi have failed big time with these. The old British Rail would have made a better job 40 years ago!
