While I do enjoy this mix, I can't argue with you. There are some weird hesitations and the percussionists sit too high in the mix. I don't know if it's recording issue, a mixing issue or a performance issue, but either way it just doesn't come together the way some of the other performances I've heard do, or the original track. It's an interesting take on it though.
It always feels awkward to me when people try to move electronic dance music into the classical atmosphere just by having an orchestra play an interpretation of an electronic dance track. Sure I admire the attempt to broaden the view of people who'd normally listen to one but not the other. On the other hand - it's different worlds - maybe, if you want to keep the essence of each, you shouldn't try to convert a song from one side to the other - and if you do, accept that you will be losing something in translation. Mixing electronic dance music and classical music *can be done* and *is* done, by people working in both fields and creating music originating from both backgrounds (Kiasmos comes to mind), but that's not the same as "Let's take this one track from this techno producer and try to reproduce it using an orchestra". It's like trying to sell the Beatles to Jamaicans by remaking "Yesterday" into a tropical song. Sure you might succeed in doing so, but it's not the "Yesterday" that originally got people excited. I've seen the mixes of classical and techno like Jeff Mills with the Montpellier Orchestra or the tribute to Avicii by the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra or this video.. I love the gesture, but it's not winning over people on any side - the sum of the parts is less than the individual parts as they were interpreted in their original setting by their original audience - *in my opinion*. But what do I know - feel free to have your own opinion :-)
