  • Amazon Dead Eye Tool came with no instructions on how to assemble it. This video will show how to put it together as well as a modification to make it work with very small Dead Eyes. Model Ship Building

      You might check out my follow up video…. Turns out, for me it’s easier to do them on the ship….
      I’ve just made a little jig that’s looks like it might work better and you can make it from just a little plank of wood and add two wires or small nails at both ends….
      I’ll show it in an coming video of my building The Black Pearl All Scenario version. 👍

    Thank you. Couldnt put it together on my own!

      You’re welcome.
      Wish I could say it worked out better for me….. I’ve gone back to doing the deadeyes on the ship as I go….
      Maybe it’ll work better for you!
      Thanks for watching and sharing the positive feedback 👍

    Nice tool...even though it didn't work for you, I may need to give it a shot.

      I had trouble with them twisting after I made them. Using them on larger deadeyes would probably work. But the tiny ones….. not for me.👍🏴‍☠️

      One other thing. Mine came with wood deadeye holders.
      I ordered thinner metal ones but when it arrived, it was just one…. Another $10….. so it would be $20 for 2! I ended up getting a second…..
      Should be able to make them yourself 😁👍

      @@BoilerDan1 I saw them on Amazon...for $45 for the pair. I might try the wooden one first to see if it is a viable tool for me. Going to (finally) get back on the ZHL Black Pearl all scenario version...

      My favorite ship! I’m at Disney World as I write 😂. Not that the Pearl is all about Disney….. but it’s the basis that began the saga.🏴‍☠️👍. I’m looking forward to completing my collection with The Flying Dutchman (soon)!

      @@BoilerDan1 I have the Dutchman too. Great that your at Disneyland...been a while since we were there. A lot of the models I have are stocking up...I'll retire in a few years and have less disposable income...so I;m planning ahead. Enjoy your day at the House of Mouse!

    This was incredibly helpful! Thank you👍😄 I found that, where the deadeyes make contact, I sanded away the wood to make a fine edge rather than make a new insert.

      @BoilerDan1  Před 3 lety

      Yes, that’s a great idea! I had ordered a metal insert but when it arrived it was only 1..... obviously needed 2! I think I’ll try what you did! I’ll show it on my next build when I make some deadeye’s.
      Thanks for watching and contributing to the art 😁👍

      I’m going to use it on this build, so I’ll see how it works out. I’m going to use the wood holders filled down or get another metal one that’s stronger.

    Was there a part two??? Didn’t see it in use

      Well, I thought I did a follow up! But it’s not there….😵‍💫. I think I mentioned it in one of my ship building videos …. Sorry.
      In the end it didn’t work out for me. The Deadeyes kept getting twisted when I tried to attach them to rat lines. So it’s a “No” tool in my recommendation.
      I’ve made a little jig that will give me a constant distance between the two deadeyes.
      I will feature that in the coming weeks in the series on The Black Pearl All Scenario version.
      It be sometime after Part 26 (which I’m in the process of doing now.)
      Here’s a link to that series if you’re interested in following along?

      Once I finish this project I hope to follow up with things that I have learned along the way. I’ll try to remember to add the deadeye tool to the list.
      Thanks for watching and bringing that to my attention.
      👍👍

      @@BoilerDan1 thanks for the reply. I didn't think it would work for me either as I wanted the lower deadeyes fixed to the ship so I can tension those upper ones and their attached shroud lines. Cheers for your videos

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  Před rokem +1

      The thing that I’m trying now is a plank that is the distance I want between the upper and lower dead eye. Then on both ends I have two brass wires (or nails) that fit inside the lower and upper two (of the three) holes in each deadeye then I can tie the loop around the upper one and hold the lower one equal distance for each set as I hook up the ratlines!
      Not sure I explained that very well. But in early experiments it looks like it will work. I do have the wires coming from opposite sides of the deadeyes. It seems to hold them in place better.
      Once that’s done, I remove the jig and can do the rope work between the two deadeyes. Then repeat for the other sets.
      Maybe it’ll be clearer in the video 😂🏴‍☠️👍
