  • Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, members of the MARTA Police Department are working along MARTA’s nearly 48 miles of track and 1,000 miles of bus routes.
Every day, these men and women protect MARTA’s approximately half a million passengers and employees traveling on over 300 rail cars and 500 full size buses operating within the MARTA system.
MARTA Police can be found patrolling stations, trains, buses, facilities, and along the right-of-way. MARTA police are there preventing crime, enforcing laws, protecting public safety, and providing front-line customer service by assisting passengers - all to ensure a safe travel environment.
Our Bomb Assessment Team responds to incidents where suspicious packages and hazardous explosives or materials are potential threats. Our team actively trains and maintains certifications to ensure the safety and security of individuals within the transit system. After a threat, crime, or situation our Criminal Investigation Unit takes over.
The Criminal Investigation Unit works diligently through investigations to identify and arrest individuals involved in crimes within the transit system. They are assigned to investigate crimes on MARTA property, facilities, buses and trains. Our CIU is responsible for over 900 square miles and works in conjunction with 27 surrounding agencies to share crime and intelligence information to assist in their investigations.
Our K-9 teams of specially trained officers and dogs are always working throughout the MARTA system. They conduct bus and train searches and detect evidence of explosives.
The specialized Operations Response Team or (SORT) is responsible for numerous services within the transit system and surrounding communities within Metropolitan Atlanta.
Emergency Preparedness Unit or (EPU) ensures the overall Authority’s preparedness initiatives. They support and implement preparedness plans, coordinate and manage numerous projects for the Authority and Police Department, and address all levels of emergencies and disasters. In addition, the EPU works with multiple agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, Georgia Emergency Management Association and Georgia Department of Transportation to provide continuous protection throughout the transit system.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies awarded the MARTA Police Department with its Gold Standard of Excellence - one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a law enforcement agency and is awarded to police agencies that demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence in both policy and practice.
And as a team member of the MARTA police department, we encourage mobility and advancement in your law enforcement career.
So, if you are looking for a challenging career in law enforcement and an opportunity to make a real difference, please consider joining the award winning MARTA Police Department.

They tend to call other agencies to do their work for them, and then like to look over your shoulder and comment how you could have handled or are supposed to handle the situation. As an example lets say hypothetically a man gets beat up on the side walk right in front of the MARTA station. The man then walks into the MARTA police station to report the crime and then ask for the ambulance. MARTA then calls the local City Police, waits for them to come and take the report and call an ambulance for the man because it happened on the side walk and not in the MARTA station.
If you want to work, and learn how to be a police officer APD, East Point PD, Dekalb Co PD, even COBB PD are all good choices.

Rodriquez Washington if you’re thinking about applying, just apply. Don’t worry about anyone else’s opinion. They’re police officers just like any other department, the only difference is their jurisdiction is all about MARTA. If something happens near Marta but not on their property, I’m sure they contact APD because that’s APD jurisdiction.
It makes perfect sense when you think about it.
