How good is the French restaurant at Discover Princess?
Bistro Sur La Mer captivates with its charming décor, featuring an array of plates adorned with hot-air balloons, marble tabletops, and cozy banquettes. The setting is a perfect prelude to a French bistro dining experience.
For dinner, we started with goat cheese and polenta chips. As appetizers, we had a somewhat simple seasonal salad with a boiled egg and a rich and creamy Lobster Bisque. We also enjoyed a very flavorful ahi tuna and pate with fig and pear compote.
For our main course we had roasted jumbo scallops with vegetables that were a bit disappointing. However, the filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and the sea bass on a ratatouille bed was delicious.
For dessert, we enjoyed a soft meringue and indulged in a decadent chocolate bar adorned with a luscious coffee sauce.
If you are an aficionado of French cuisine, this beautifully designed restaurant on Deck 7 is a must-visit.
Crown Grill aboard Discovery Princess is a sophisticated and memorable steakhouse experience. Its Art Deco-inspired ambiance sets the stage for a delightful dinner. While it's a haven for steak enthusiasts, it's essential not to overlook their exceptional seafood options.
The restaurant's rich wood decor and captivating theater-style kitchen have earned it a well-deserved spot among the Best Cruise Ship Steakhouses. The open kitchen allows you to witness skilled chefs masterfully preparing top-quality cuts of beef, chops, and seafood, ensuring culinary excellence and sophistication.
To start our dinner, we had prawns paired with sweet papaya, and a decadent lobster cake. Our friends enjoyed tender scallops with salmon caviar, and the rich black blue onion soup with jack daniels and roquefort.
For our main course we had a traditional filet mignon, which was super tender, and premium beef chop, cooked to perfection. Our party also had the Chilean sea bass, and the signature surf and turf. Creamy mashed potatoes, velvety creamed spinach, and golden French fries added a comforting touch to the meal.
Sabatini's, the signature Italian trattoria on Princess Cruises, is a haven for Italian cuisine enthusiasts. This specialty restaurant is known for its antipasti, expertly crafted handmade pastas, hearty entrées, and authentic sauces, all curated by renowned chefs.
The pasta dishes are prepared fresh daily, drawing inspiration from family recipes that have been carefully preserved by Italian chefs across the fleet.
For our dining experience, we started with bread and prosciutto served with a tangy tomato sauce. Our appetizers featured lamb skewers and crispy fried calamari. As the main course, we had the chicken parmesan with creamy mashed potatoes and a selection of handcrafted pastas, including spaghetti and linguini. We also tried the pork tenderloin.
    Ocean terrace
The Ocean Terrace seafood bar is paradise for seafood enthusiasts, a place where the sea's bounty takes center stage. This chic bar offers sushi, sashimi, and an assortment of chilled sake, cocktails, and wines by the glass. With a flexible à la carte pricing system, you can easily curate your seafood experience.

We will travel with this cruise in next weeks, do you know do they have any vegetarian menu?

Wonderful, you will a great time! There is usually at least one vegetarian option for each course. Check this to prepare for your cruise: www.princess.com/en-us/ships-and-experience/onboard-experience/food-and-dining/specialty-restaurants

I didn’t find the “specialty dining” on Discovery Princess (Mexico Jan/Feb 2024) to be all that great. Oh, it wasn’t bad, it simply did not live up to the hype. In Crown Grill (which my travel agent paid for as a gift) I received exactly four (4) spears of asparagus with my filet. Four. That is just cheap. Lovely atmosphere and certainly quieter than MDR (if you ignore the folks one table over watching videos on their phone during dinner). You can get the same filet in MDR for $19 versus a $35 Crown Grill cover charge. Sabatini’s was just OK; again nothing spectacular. Sure, quieter than MDR but not worth $35. Service in both was excellent. Gigi’s Pizza was nowhere near as good as I had been made to believe. In fact I found it excessively ordinary and hardly worth $15. Service, however, was faultless. My best meals were in MDR. Next time (Majestic Princess / Mexico / Nov 2024) I’ll skip specialty dining (and the buffet for that matter - but that’s a different story) and take my meals in MDR, thank you very much.

From my experience specialty dining is a $35 cover charge (plus service fee) and Gigi’s Pizza is $15 (plus service fee). I can’t speak to the charges at Salty Dog.

    Sorry.
What was the name of the french restaurant?

It WAS “Sur La Mer” but it has been replaced with “The Catch By Rudi”. It’s now seafood.
