  • Hey guys, today I wanted to share this tutorial for a super easy macrame wall hanging for all those of you that are about to try macrame for the first time. This macrame piece is ideal for beginners and I am giving you loads of tips along the way. I hope you like and I hope you will give it a try 😊
    The final macrame wall hanging is about 30 cm wide and 55 cm long and I needed the following supplies to create it:
    50 cm dowel
    30,6 m of a 9mm single twist macrame cord in the color Natural
    And here are the specific measurements for all the cords to cut:
    2x270 cm
    4x240 cm
    4x210 cm
    4x180 cm

    I am 11 and I started watching macramé videos and making bracelets when I was nine and told everyone at school that I made these and some believe and some don’t so I wanted to make more projects and this is a big project which I am tempted to make!! My aunt really supports me to make these I now tomorrow is her birthday so I’m gonna make it as a birthday gift ❤❤❤

    I am a crocheter and this form of art came across one of the videos that I was watching one day and said to myself Wow, this looks interesting.
    It seemed rather complicated with all of the twists and turns but after seeing this video I would like to give it a shot. I am a little bit nervous but the video gave me some ease.
    Wish me luck.😊.

    My tip for cutting the ends evenly. Hang the project on the wall. Use masking tape to determine the angles you want. Cut the ropes and then remove tape. Can be used for the bottom of plant hangers too.

    It is so nice to find a teaching session for Macrame on the U Tuube! Thank you. I was thinking of the person who said the cords were too expensive. I had an idea, why couldn't a person practice with any household string they happen to have. Even yarn, Is this feasible?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      You can definitely practice with all kinds of things although I wouldn't recommend yarn since that tends to be very thin usually and that makes it harder to do the knots, especially for a beginner. You could take shoe laces for example or a clothes line or any kind of rope material.

    Hi Anna, if I may offer a suggestion for cutting the fringe; I am a hairdresser and I know it’s not exactly the same, 😉 but I feel like if you cut the fringe evenly across the bottom and then combed it out; then cut it at an angle beginning from the outside coming down to the center it’s going to come out more even. I don’t mean to criticize you. We used to do haircuts like this. They are called “V cuts” . You may find it a little easier to navigate as well. I hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks for so much great tutorials and information. I want to try this project soon. ❤️❤️❤️

      @@tbonemalone3407 That would probably help. I was thinking the same thing. I've never tried spinning, but I've watched a few spinning videos. After yarn is spun and/or piled, it's soaked in water to set the twist so that it doesn't keep trying to twist on itself. A light ironing with a little steam might help unset the twist also.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      Well hi Anna 🙂 I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but you definitely can add other knots. You could for example do one or more rows of square knots in that arrow shape and then again the double half hitch knots 😉

    Wonderful video with great instructions for this beginner. Thank you. Question: Are there any good knots I can add onto mine once this is finished? Since I didn't have 9mm cord but I did have 5mm, I converted your metric measurements and made your project using 9 foot, 8,7 and 6 foot cords, all the same proportions as your project except my cord was much smaller. So I ended up with A LOT of extra cord at the end- too much to waste. I'm wondering if you have suggestions on what I can add on to this project because I probably have 80% of the cord left hanging- too much to cut and comb. What do you recommend? I don't want to get half way through a pattern and run out of cord.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      What you could do is repeat the pattern - adding a few rows of square knots right underneath the double half hitches and then do those again and continue like this until you are happy with the length 😉

    Hi Anna! I love your tutorials, they are super easy to follow ❤️ I only have a 3mm rope, will it be any good for this project? Should I do more than 14 cords so it's bigger? Thank you in advance ❤️

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      Hi Ewelina, thank you 😊 You can do this with 3mm rope as well but if you do the same amount of cords it will be much smaller. So if you want the same final size you will need to add more cords.

    Hi Uzliky, I am a total beginner to macrame. I have been watching your macrame videos and wanna really get started with a project. Please can you advice if I need to first practice the basic knots and then get started with this project? Also single twist and single ply are the same ?
    A big thank you for such helpful videos .

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      Hi Azmina, I would say it's completely up to you if you want to practice the knots first before doing a project. I started doing my first project right away but it might be helpful to just test some of the knots first. You can easily do that with some shoe laces for example before buying real cord for the project. And yes, single twist and single ply (or also single strand) are the same thing 😉

    I would love to see something with teals blues and greens ocean colors… Do you have any videos that I can refer to that you’ve already done that’s the color in my bedroom and I would love to make something small to medium scale for over my bed.

      I haven’t really done any pieces with that color palette yet but I have some projects in mind where I could go in that direction 😌

      I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but you could do a variation on this one I made czcams.com/video/eTX7SQONbnA/video.html. You will just need to make fewer knots at the top so that you have enough cord.

    Hello Anna, i am new to macrame and i love the way u have explained it. As i am new to this i have a quick question. In the description you have mentioned 30,6m 9mm which has confused me, could u please explain the 30,6m ?

    • @katrinahleong364
      @katrinahleong364 Před 8 měsíci

      She meant that in total, you need 30.6m length of 9mm single ply rope (if you add up the lengths of all 14 ropes: 2x270cm, 4x240cm, 4x210cm etc.. you will get exactly 30.6m) . Hope this helps!

    Great video, with easy explanations! However, your square knot is not quite like a reef knot, or does macramé have a different definition?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      I am not familiar with a reef knot but according to Wikipedia the reef knot and square knot should be the same and when I look at the picture it does look like the square knot from macrame...

    I've never done macrame so I have some questions is a package of the cord called a skein ? How much cord is in a package, did this take a whole package ? W hat are some cheaper but still decent brands to buy ? I really enjoyed your video and can't wait to try it !

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      I'm really happy to hear you want to give it a go and I wish I had some good answers for you but for most of your questions it depends. As for the first one I have never heard or seen the word "skein" but that may be just because the language/location difference (I live in the Czech Republic). How much cord is in a package can vary again depending on the location (metric system vs. imperial) and also on the brand (some brands even use weight instead of length to measure this which I find not very useful) but as far as I've seen every brand has this information clearly visible on their website or the product itself. For this project I needed about 30 m of the cord which was exactly how much was in the package. And for your last question I only work with the brand Bobbiny which is on the more expensive side of the spectrum but it has an amazing selection and their environmental standards are also quite high so for me it's worth it.

    Love your work.
    I was wondering why couldn’t we use yarn instead of cord?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      You can do macrame with almost any material including yarn but I wouldn't recommend that one as yarn is usually very thin and that makes it more difficult to make the knots.

    I love your channel and makes me want to play more with macrame, however I struggle with the horizontal & vertical hitch knots, keeping the tension and of course going a straight line, it is making me extremely hesitant in doing some hangings..

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      Well there is no magic trick for that unfortunately, just practice practice practice 😉

      @@annabaginova01 Sadly I stumbled on a video today on youtube about how to do it with the traveling cord and the main cords and using proper hand control etc...... I sighed loudly at my lack of technique so far (I am still in baby stages of learning and only done a few peices so far, but I can do vertical IF i have a steady row of knots above it to press up against. I realised this was going to be the response sadly.........LOL I am trying to plan my next project something different with minimal vertical and horizontal hitch knots, although they are highly popular on tutorials.....LOL But thank you thou, will focus on that and my hunt for long peices of driftwood.........LOL

    Anna, can I make it wider with smaller cord by adding more cord in the middle? Say 20 cords rather than the 14? Thank you 😊

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Před rokem

      I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but yes, that would work 🙂 You will then just need to cut all your cords a bit longer since all the sections will be a bit longer (if you want to keep all the proportions).
