I think Debbie Gibson is the real princess of Pop.
for one moment of time, the year this came out and then Paula Abdul came along and then the 90's came and these all faded into oblivion and then people like Courtney came along and then times changes again and so on and the one that remains is MADONNA.

80s pop songs like this have some sort of ‘magical’ touch to it, like anything’s possible.
The power of the synth
@@delilasloan8914 this! 🥲 facts! ✨ very magical synth indeed
Hey Reagan was president, the Berlin Wall fell anything was possible. It was an awesome time.
The 1980s is when art imitated life and life imitated art extremely closely. I hope you are old enough to have lived in if so you'll probably understand what I mean. Sometimes difficult to explain to people who want old enough to remember it really was a magical time
And back then we all knew everything was possible not like today where people try to restrict you so much we had a whole big wide world opening up to us we were so lucky to have lived then
Wow I was 13 when this was released-48 now! The 80's were the best!

80s the greatest decade
If i had a time machine, i would go back to the 80's, and stay there.
Do you think anyone in the 80's will believe me if i tell them about the future?
Bill Cosby became a rapist, Trump would become a fascist cult leader and the twin towers would be leveled by cave dwelling jihadist? Yeh they would lock you up 12 monkeys style.
No
You know what though? I also am an '80s kid, and I lived through the whole decade and I wish I could go back too. But, if I went back to the '80s, and lived there forever...a) I would get bored with the repetitiveness at some point, and b) I would NEVER re-live all the great stuff that the '90s (and a little bit beyond them) brought.
Yes, the '80s were great, as well as the '50s, and '60s, and '70s, and '90s, each for their own reasons. What was good about them, was the EVOLUTION from one to another. The '80s were fun, but would you really expect them to last forever, in all eternity? They had to end at some point, because everything ends at some point. But not entirely. We have our memories (and You Tube, of course! :p) that will keep them alive for as long as we live.
And besides that, to what SPECIFIC year of the '80s would you like to go, and get stuck there and never leave? 1987, the year this song came out? So you would never listen to Madonna's "Like A Prayer" (and I mean the whole album!) which came out in 1989, huh? Or, you would never witness the evolution of the second (possibly) greatest female pop star of all times, Kylie Minogue. And ALL the other great songs that came out in 1988 and 1989. Or, to go even further, all the COUNTLESS great stuff that came out in the early '90s, at least.
I know what you mean man, I feel you, I would like to be able to go back too. But maybe once every year for a week, and go to a few parties and all that, and then come back to today. Not STAY there forever. The world didn't end in 1989.
p.s.: An 90 year old guy cuts in the conversation:
"Screw the '80s, they sucked, I wanna go back to the '50s to see Elvis again and stay there forever! The '50s were the best times, so pure and innocent and we had a great time!"
😆
Omg, that is exactly what I tell my husband all the time. I close my eyes many times and dream about going back to the 80s. It's a nice peaceful feeling. Take me with you when you get that time machine. 😅😊
Even George Orwell wouldn't believe the things that are happening now.
She is the real princess of pop
This song gets released when she was 16 and still in high school, doesn't let the instant fame go to her head and continues on staying in the same high school where my cousins also attended, saying she worked too hard to not stand with her classmates and graduate. She certainly could've moved anywhere in the country at that point or changed to a private school but she didn't which says a lot about her and what she accomplished while still in her teens and how a couple of years ago, she attended her high school's 30 year class reunion.
tell us more about her 😊
remember when,, I was in HS then, it was so popular in the Philippines and in the world.. if we had internet then .. I would have subscribed or get chat with her at least.. I love her songs,,so much!!!!

What a great pop song. Sounds as good today as in 1987.
I remember Debbie singing this song a capella on Hollywood Squares, and she blew my mind with how incredible her voice was with no music to help. The voice of an angel!! She epitomizes the Best of the 80s!
Those were the best days I miss it.
1987 this black Detroit chick loved hearing this song while in beautiful California. Loved debbie Gibson's foolish beat and shake your love. Even this 60's chick thinks debbie Gibson's songs were great and loved her songwriting
The common thing that Debbie's songs and '60s songs with female singers (and I don't mean the psychedelic experimental stuff -not that there something wrong with them-, but the typical simple '60s music) had, is that they were just pure innocence. No boobs, no big asses, no pu**y, no money, no drugs, no expensive cars, no golden teeth, nothing. Just girls longing for someone to love and love them back. Pretty old-fashioned these days...
I was in Chicago grooving to her music senior year of high school. Love her❤
Debbie was not a manufactured, pre fabricated corporate hack, she had ability and talent. I will always cherish the Summers of the late 80's in NYC. It was a magical time because of Debbie and real artists.
Ya she was a great talent 😊😊
she was 16 years old when this tune hit the air waves, you are very correct about her abilities. there was no" auto- tune" to correct her voice, and she was backed up by a real band with no drum machines, or computers. this tune has held up to the test of time, I liked it then as I do today( I have the 45 R.P.M. single, I bought it when this tune came out).
Yes sir
This is so true! she wrote and produced most of her music, very rare in today.
Nah. Debbie was surely a true talent, but they pushed Tiffany just as hard, and all she could do was cover one song on her mall tour.

That's the cycle of life. You wake up one day, and you become your parents.
I was born in 1967. the 80s and 90s were our decades. Geez I miss the world we had. We were all just Americans. So much optimism in our music and culture. Little did we know back then the storm clouds of true evil were forming over the US and Western Europe destroying everything we knew without a shot being fired. Just horrible. I wish we had those days back so much. God is in control. We have to remember that. Good will prevail.
Beautiful words ❤ , totally agree 👍

@@sacvideo1998 I can
@@sacvideo1998 If you need that explained to you, you’re not paying attention
@@sacvideo1998I agree with the comments here. There is an element of evil that has all but destroyed our morality and culture. It’s a cabal that has undermined our society, our security, and our children’s future. We are in dark times, with wars, unbridled cruelty, and the desecration of all that is holy. And you if you believe in God, then you realize who the enemy is. Only the spiritually blind can’t see the truth in what’s going on.

Debbie Gibson was a musical prodigy that wrote her own music and was actually talented. Her songs were an oasis of originality in the 80s when so much of the music was crass and commercial. Total respect for her as a talented artist.
The 80's Commercial? The 80's were far from that. So many different styles and sound. Sure there was commercialism. Just in in the 40's, 50's, 60's. 70's, 90's etc... Yet, the 80's music was different. Look at the top 50 in the 80's from year to year. They ALL sounded different.

I miss the gleeful innocence of music back in the day. Music that was fun and made me smile. I miss those days.
Brilliant song...she is so underrated, I dont think people realize she WROTE HER OWN SONGS
And produced and performed
I think most, then and still up to now, assumed she was totally manufactured by old guys in suits at major labels and that isn't cool so just ignore her music as if it never existed. The beats on these songs are similar to italo and freestyle songs as well, a sound that was made outside of major label studios but some of those songs became quite popular so in retrospect people think they were major label lab produced. Similar for other popular songs then. Madonna's songs, on her first album at least, were not major label manufactured and handed to her (though she worked with others for beats, they were mostly underground people in NYC). Even some of what was major label produced was done by people who made exceptional and cool music, like Rick James, Quincy Jones, and Prince, the idea people have that those really making popular music then were Gordon Gekko type guys in suits is way off. Unfortunately the 80s is getting a distorted nostalgia problem now due to younger people and apps, entertainment, and clothing stores catering to them putting so much focus on music that was far less popular then and ignoring or minimizing the actually popular songs like this one, in part due to wrongful assumptions and ignorance about the backstories.
And Debbie Gibson wins in life! Over Madonna and other super mega female stars. Debbie makes a GREAT living! she is famous but not too too famous where she cant walk around and enjoy real life living too. She looks AMAZING at age 53. No surgery, no crazy face injections. We were blessed to have grown up the 80’s and heard the music from these “teen idols” like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. They were nothing like today’s young artists that try to be “cool” and are raunchy, immoral, vulgar, half naked, etc. No tattoos, body piercings, plastic surgery, just humble ordinary teen girls who behaved and dressed like the rest of us, and were clean, chaste, upright, and were beautiful and sexy, but wholesome! They were great role models for other teens, and this is what we desperately need now days with the direction that society is heading.
