I've been collecting rocks all my adult life, but not an expert, just a lover of rocks. I live in Central Oregon and never knew all the cool places i could collect. I decided this summer to go on fun hikes as much as possible, so I'll combine that with rockhounding. 😊 I just found out about Glass Butte last weekend when i went to a Horse therapy retreat near the Ochocos.
Ive got tons of places to hound all over Oregon, just DM me on IG and I'll help ya find some spots
Fabulous colors .. The shallow concoidal fractures show great colors. Thanks for sharing.. The Chatoyancy in the Piece you cut at the 11:21 mark is Stunning..
Thanks! I cant wait to go back this year ^^

That was an incredible day out there! Looked like it was a lot of hard work. But, the results well worth it! Wow! The absolutely gorgeous colors in that obsidian. That was cool you got directed to a great spot. And great job to Quest for goin to town out there 💪🔨 . Love, love, love obsidian!!! 🤩
Great video, bro!
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it.
Great to hear from ya and stay cool man
I love rainbow obsidian! I like it way more than the fire obsidian, and its color is consistent all the way through the rock. Unlike fire that can be a single layer that may not even go all the way through the rock, and in trying to cut or grind down to it, you may go though that micro thin layer and blow that whole piece, which is why it's so expensive. Its not the beauty of the fire, it's that it is so hard to deal with. Rainbow on the other hand is so beautiful and it is consistent through the rock and you can cut it and polish it and even carve it and produce different affects with the rainbow sheen! Its amazing and my favorite obsidian of all! And you guys got some amazing pieces! Those are some of the best rainbow sheens ive seen! The color spectrum is fabulous! They are full color! Thats so awesome! They are some of the most gorgeous colored pieces ive seen come out of glass butte! Absolutely fabulous! Thank you for taking us along on this fabulous day, searching for the rainbows! Thanks Rogue and Quest!
Youre spot on and I'm the same way. Rainbow is my favorite and you wont normally find such quality over there.
Davis creek has some great rainbows with teal and blue/green but that is much harder to find at GB.
The purple in this one was amazing and I noticed there was a lot of peach color in them as well (which I have seen very little of in the past).
Thanks for watching Largent and great to hear from ya.
Oh man that is some gorgeous stuff! I don't think I've seen anybody pull out pieces that big.❤❤❤
It really took some work, but was 100% worth it
Thanks for watching Lisa!
Excellent haul on that fantastic material!! That's one on my list for sure!! Thanks for sharing this video!
Any time bro, always happy to share.
Nice work. I’ve been there several times, but we usually have an hour cuz we are headed elsewhere. Still, surface picking is fun….but it is nice to see the good stuff. Thanks.

Thanks man, I totally agree. Pretty wicked stuff and I'll be heading back for more next weekend ^^

Great trip, great vid. We got several winners from there. The colors are awesome and the big piece turned out fantastic. I cut some of the smaller ones with great results too. It's a good spot to visit again! 😁
Looking forward to seeing your vid man! Such a great trip!!
I found it very impressive to see how those colours appear ,even knowing the video probably doesn't do justice when you see it for real
definitely does not do it justice ^^
Thanks for watching!

Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely gorgeous pieces! Was already wanting to head over there but I'll definitely be planning a trip! Fingers crossed for treadures like yours! Thanks for sharing!

Heading down there from Washington 9/17/2023 Excited to get up there. First time.

@@TheRogueRockhound thank you. I’m going down with my uncle. He’s a addicted napper. 🤣 him and a group go down every couple years.
Outstanding finds. I only knew about Davis Creek, but couldn't get to the rainbow site due to bad washouts in 2008. I did get a few buckets of needles which at some point I'll make chimes. Nice video and Good hunting! 👍
Thanks Mike, I appreciate that.
Stay cool man
What a great look rock would love some in my collection great video see you work it, nice 1 catch you Andrew
We can totally make that happen man. I just need to warn ya, It takes me forever to send stuff out sometimes.

thanks Andrew but the UK is a long way, nice 1 @@TheRogueRockhound
That’s some super sweet looking rainbow… I have found a little, but nothing like that! I do have some really cool gold sheen though!

One of my favorite rockhounding spots in Oregon for sure, such great colors.
Thanks for watching and there will always be some saved for ya ^^
I was just out there for the first time on the 8th & 9th. I pulled a volleyball sized chunk out with a nice purple sheen streak through the middle. Found a bunch of small chunks of rainbow and silver sheen too.
Heck yeah man!
Its been a great season for that place ^^
Thanks for watching
That is wonderful.
Thanks ^^

Just subbed to both channels gentlemen looking forward to a collaboration 😀
Love Obsidian. Found some small pieces myself over the years. Mainly around Mt Shasta. One of your slices looked like an X-Ray…coincidence…I think not! 😊
Obsidian is some of my favorite stuff to find, especially when it has such great colors ^^
Thanks for watching!!
I went out there in 2005, and we had people come up on us saying that we were in there spot & had to leave. People think they own spots, be careful, a lot of times incidents aren’t reported. It happened twice in different spots, second time I told them they can dig with us or leave us alone. Some lady said you know there are a lot places to hide things out here, her husband turned & told her to shut tha fuck up, enjoy your digging & I apologize for what she said.
That's some Luvvly Jubbly stuff Rogue 🌈
thanks buddy, im stoked ^^
i love obsidian! Thank you!
You're very welcome, thanks for watching ^^
Great video Rogue!
Thanks Ariel! Glad ya liked it and I hope you like the box I'll be sending you for tumbles.
That's so beautiful. Do you sell pieces? We only seem to have the black obsidian here in New Zealand.
Thanks! So I cant technically sell any because it was collected on public lands. The states are...funny like that ^^
If you send me a message on Instagram, we could probably figure something out though.
Thanks for watching
wow you found a treasure Sir like a latest building
Thanks! I had a great time and I'm glad you enjoyed too ^^
I’ve been there twice and only collected surface finds. I have several 5 gallon buckets full. I guess if you want a giant piece it’s worth digging but I was mostly wanting stuff to tumble. There are a lot of maps online that tell you where to find the different colors. I’ve had good luck with the red ribbon stuff, aurora, and midnight lace.
The maps can be useful for sure but I have found that they all say different things. When I was there I was given a map from one of the miners that seems to be accurate. Cant wait to get back out there for more.
Thanks for watching!!
Oh my God Andrew, those are stunning! We have a couple of decent (legal) chunks from Bend but they don’t have that color.
I just got back from my second trip to this spot, LOTS of great color ^^
I will make sure I get some to ya
@@TheRogueRockhound ohhhhhhh, I would LOVE that! I’ve never seen that kind of color (which is kinda surprising in itself) and I appreciated the explanations at the end of the video. ❤️❤️❤️
Really nice color. I hear there's about 13 different types of obsidian in that area.
Thats true, there are and I've never had such good luck.
Cant wait to go back ^^
Thanks for watching Collene!
Hey! Just recently started watching your stuff and I see you do a lot in Oregon and ca!.. lucky me, today my buddy found something today we’ve never seen before. Is it possible to ask for assistance identifying it?
Thats awesome man! and yeah, I'm a Rogue Valley local and I try to help people find rocks in Oregon.
Send me a DM on Insta and I'll do my best to help ya
WOW. looks like a fun site. Always great not having to dig and not worry about breaking crystal points! Do you find that the color is sometimes concentrated on 1 side of a chunk and just black on the other side? or are all the specimens in that zone permeated with color
Most of the obsidian you'll find is solid black with no color. There are a variety of different types, but rainbow is particularly prized. As for the color in these, there are flow layers that you cut against (5-15 degree cut) to reveal color. The area also has mahogany, lizard skin, gold sheen, blue sheen, purple sheen, etc. There are 2 buttes (where the area gets it's name) that are loaded with it.
Thanks for watching man!
Is there anyway you could give me an idea of where this area of glass buttes is? I’m going this year in October. This will be my 3rd time exploring and I have never found rainbow! I understand if you can’t. But I would appreciate it!
DM me on IG and Ill see what I can help ya w/
Is the dirt that hard you need chisels to break it up? Is Fire Obsidian next?
when you get down far enough the dirt get hard and i'll prolly go for the fire soon
Thanks for watching
Are you selling the slabs? I would like to have a small piece, if possible.
Send me a message on IG and I'll help you out ^^
Hello, do you sell rock and mineral specimens.? Please advise. Rebecca Blue
No, usually I just give them to people because selling rocks found on public lands is illegal. Send me a message on Instagram and maybe I can send you something nice.
Thanks for watching ^^
Why are you don’t invite me I was waiting
Next time ^^
