EV sales dropped in early 2024 but have been staging a comeback since March. Actually world wide EV sales are slightly up over last year but not in Canada yet. The basic problem is that many regular car manufacturers erroneously thought they could make a profit by taking out a gas tank, transmission, exhaust system and engine, replacing it with an electric motor and batteries and selling it for the same price. It is not that simple. Not only must the whole car be re-designed but also the factory where it is made. That requires massive investment that the company executives whose incomes depend on quarterly profits are not about to make. Retail dealers are opposed to selling electric cars because they require a lot less maintenance that the dealer has to rely on to maintain a profitable business. The ultimate winner is the retail customer of an electric car who never has to seek out the cheapest gas dealer but charges at home, never needs an oil change or maintain the engine, and saves a ton of money. The next five years should be interesting.

The city where we live has the original cloth wrapped power lines on the poles to homes. No way every home is able to charge multiple ev’s , period! No place to charge in gta for every ev produced! Cant add gas to ev car, so winter storm and gta will have 100k ev’s dead block snowplows all over gta, period! No ifs ands or buts. Not able to be implemented, period! Repair costs are insane on ev! No insurance will reinsure any ev involved in accident, period! Battieries are toxic to make, and not recyclable, just same as nuclear waste, we we cant deal with still, hey, friends of friends are making big cash of ev dream!

Trudeau needs to put a halt on it too. I have yet be convinced that we will be ready for the EV for at least another 5 years. I’ll probably be dead by then so I have no skin in the game except for the tax allocation toward those plans coming out of my pocked until such time. In any case I will not buy one. Way too expensive let alone my question about the effect on the environment of all those dead batteries to come.

who can even afford EV in Canada? A used car with internal combustion can be purchased for less than $10K. A used electric is like 30K and when the battery dies, the real fun begins for the mechanics.
