- GoPro footage in the Drum box of Wicked at the Pantages Theatre. The 1st national tour came through LA again earlier this year. Here's a fly on the wall look in the Pit at a Broadway touring show.
That guitar in the background though...
Okayyy!!
My face has melted thanks too guitar 🎸
Drums are great too
you see some people just focus and thank the singers so i would like thank you sir and the people who are under the stage with you for amazing music that let the actors sing
thank you, in the name of all pit musicians! ;) :) (I used to be one. So I know...)
This is just awesome. But the electric guitar just gives me chills!!!!!!!!
There's more going on than just the guitar...
@@praestant8 So? He liked the guitars. That's like saying these drums are sick, and you saying there's more going on...
@@praestant8 Yeah, but it overshadows the guitar (understandably, but still true)
It really makes me miss when I did pit for a couple musicals in high school, I would love to do it again. Thank you for posting these.
This is so impressive, ive always had so many questions for the wicked Orchestra especially percussion and this answered all of them! Pure talent man.
Elphaba is Jennifer DiNoia, while Glinda is Chandra Lee Schwartz.
Every time I hear it I can never get over how much the last 15 seconds or so of the witch hunters just sounds like it could merge perfectly into the Star Wars Imperial March
Love this!!!! This song is my favourite in Wicked, and now I love it even more!
Me too on both counts!
I love that music theater has tricked people into liking prog. So gooooood man.
The more I learn about how all of artist on Broadway/West End and in any other countries, the more I have respect for them. In all aspects. Not only the leading roles because they can't shine on stage without ensemble, the orchestra, the dresser and any other profession for theatre. Crazy show business but I bet majority they work with heir hearts because they love what they're doing. Salute ....
OMG! This was absolutely amazing to watch! You are like a diamon hidden deep under the ground. Thank you for showing us your shine. ❤
This is so extremely satisfying to watch! 🙌
Absolutely awesome!!! Thank you for your fantastic work on this song. One of my favourites!
with all the experience you had over the years with Wicked, did it ever get to the point where yoi said "I bet I could play this whole show without looking at the music"
At that level of musicianship, I'm sure he could play at least half the book without the music from his first show.
Not trying to devalue his performance but most musicians can memorize music with relative ease it’s kinda easy after you’ve played your music over and over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why on earth would you dislike this vid???
Love a good Pit Cam video... This music is awesome a day the score is a killer... You did good sir!
God I forgot how hard the electric guitar and drums go during this song like I usually focus on the singers but damn you and that guitar practically carry this song.
the heartbeat-esque drum at 2:20 😍😍
Wow, I've never been able to hear that sick triplet groove at :55 until now, and the way the guitarist tears out of it! Amazing. Do you count the minutes until those rock tunes to be able to open up like that? ;) haha
YES ITS SO GROOVY
I love the electric guitar so much
this is amazing
what was that growl he made at 1:33 lolol
sailorvvv lmao
same question here
Snare drum roll
Your great drummer 🥁🎼
Amazing!!!!!
Love this Jago!!! Hope all is well!!! :0)
Thank you for posting these. Awesome work and very interesting to see the pit cam. Are you in another room completely?
Thanks so much for these!! You’re so amazing. Which song was the most percussion heavy moment for you?
Watching this at 2020 during quarantine. This set-up is so "Social-Distance" friendly!
Que buen trabajo el que haces y tienes 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 , ( completa en CZcams el apartado de ACERCA DE es muy importante para la gente que como que quiere saber sobre el canal, saludos desde argentina Santa Cruz
When she is saying nooooooooo it sounds like yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Nice stick twirls
dude..... Killer man!!!!
This is so 😎
I want to know what the guitarist is using for his rig god damn he sounds amazing
Wow i didny know the drum was in a separate pit from the test of the orchestra
Volume, they want to have complete control over the kit so they have to put me in a box:(.
My favorite part of playing that keyboard 2 book right here at 4:48, nailing that B2 (I think it was) for that lion roar patch ugh so much fun. Really miss playing in that pit.
Which pit were you in?
I was in the pit for Wicked! They came through my city in February of this year and I got to play keyboard 2! I was 17 at the time, I am finally 18 now, and the MD/conductor Dan Micciche said I was one of the top 3 pianists he has ever worked with so, I was very blessed with that opportunity!
Parker Payne wow you were 17 and playing piano on a tour. That's quite a accomplishment good job
I do envy you! So young! - I played 1st keyboard in Rudolf in Hungary though, and it was fun, I kinda recreated a lot of pop music stuff there :D
Yep Measure 21 beat 4 in the keyboard 2 part shows a quarter note stating Lion Roar (pitched) on B2 with a smooth fall after it down to a F2 half note beat 1 of measure 22.
roughly how reduced is the percussion section on the tour (I lnow for sit down prodction there's i think 59 percussion instruments but i'm sure it's scaled back for the tour)
Danny Eyheralde Nope, it's still full on! The tour picks up a guy in each city, it's a very tough book:)!
Chris Jago so do you and the other percussion player share a booth or is it a separate booth for each of you?
+Chris Jago Wowee! I don't envy anyone who has to dep Wicked on percussion!
as far as I know, it's gotta be separate. The percussion part has a lot of minimalist, very sensitive stuff written in it, so there's no choice but to be completely separated (usually from the whole orchestra).
I want Brian may to do the guitar
how many sets of drumsticks did you get through during the run
Dream job.... How does one pick up such position?
Steven Pryor It’s about who you know. Most start by subbing for someone they’re connected to.
@@praestant8
In the UK it's called "depping" (from deputizing).
Is Brian may playing the guitar
4:48 😁😍
K, but the beat for March of the Witch Hunters SLAPS
Rad!!
how long had you been playing this show to get to this point? i start shadowing next week!
Sorry, I don't get on here much. I've been doing the show on and off for 12 years. At that point probably around 7.
Do you have the video of For Good you playing drums in the show?
Have you got any tips for drumming in the band
WOAH! Is this from the official Wicked Company?!?!
Why did u get rid of defying gravity?
Someone took it down:(
Do you know who was playing Elphaba for this performance? It sounds like Jennifer Dinoia
What happened to defying gravity
I have the exact same ride
Does anyone know who played boq
Where abouts under the stage are you, middle, stage left or stage right? also are you the only drum kit player or is there two drum kits in this Wicked musical production? by the way your really good at this. Really enjoyed watching this video and interesting of what it is like behind the scenes. 😆😆🖒
Just one drummer and we are usually under the stage, positions change in each theatre. Sometimes we are even in the loading dock or a dressing room!
On 5:57 what is that (dingy) instrument? On “Punished!” Can someone plz tell me
It seems an electric harpsichord
It's a synthesizer patch, sounds like something a Yamaha DX7 would be good at.
Why are you crossing your sticks sometimes? It looks like youre communicating with someone. I saw you do this on another clip also.
+Dell Conagher Just being silly Rock'n'Roll drummer and yes sometimes I'm being stupid with the guitarist who is also rocking out. He's the only guy I can see in the pit when I'm in the box. That's all:)
@@jagodrum Any chance you remember what he was using as his rig? His tone is incredible.
Does this count as a bootleg or...
The scratch at 4:49 lol
0:53 what is he playing with his left hand?
African Nut Rattles.......... They are hanging by the mic so they cut through all the noise!
Do you know who Elphaba and Glinda were in this video?
Elphaba: Eden Espinosa
Glinda: Megan Hilty
Look up the wicked production from the theatre Chris mentioned in the description.
Taylor Quinn I did do that, but Wicked has stopped at the Pantages multiple times, it would be hard to identify which stop this was, especially considering the fact that he did in fact upload this way after it was taken, which is what I had suspected.
It says Wicked 1st national tour in the title and says it's in Los Angeles. It seems Stephanie J Block may be Elphaba since she was Elphaba kn the wicked 1st national tour which included this theatre in Los Angeles.
Taylor Quinn Just re-read the description and it said that this was earlier “this year,” which of course would mean early 2015 when the video was published. Emma Hunton and Chandra Lee Schwartz were Elphaba and Glinda unless there was an understudy on at this particular performance.
Jenny Dinoya and Chandra Schwartz
Who’s Elphaba here?
Jenny Dinoya
Hello, my name is Matti. I'm from Germany and I'm 12 years old. My dream job is to later work as a drummer, percussionist, conductor or something else in a musical. May I ask you how much does a drummer/percussionist earn in a musical? I know musicians don't like to talk about money, but it would interest me a lot.
4:49
1:32 just... was it necessary? lol 😂😂😂
Elizabeth Frost No, and if there’s extra noise since its mic’d up in the cage one could find themselves looking for another job.
hahahahahahaha. Having fun with the guitarist and bring a little Prog' rock to Broadway!
@@praestant8I don't know about that, I commented that six years ago because I found it funny. I don't really know what are you allowed to do in this or what not
@@jagodrumI see! I just found it funny hahaha thank you for the video! And sorry it took me so long to see your response mister😅
I'm sorry you had to play all alone in this dark room 😔
There’s so much equipment. I think there is a window to see other members of the orchestra. I saw on Broadwaycom CZcams channel one of the actors playing elpheba saying hi to the drummer when going past the orchestra on a tour of back stage.
Nooo... Where is Defying Gravity?? :O
this drummer is at the wrong gig!
