    Really cool comparing the old tech with newer HD, you even though HD looks so realistic, there’s something about that old video look that feels so natural lol

      Yes, that old look and feel is something hard to replicate. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching.

    The sample footage looks as expected, and it's interesting that there are big differences in video quality reflected in machine quality among MiniDV camcorders, for example the quality of my DXC-VX2100 3CCD MiniDV cam is far superior to my other low cost consumer grade machines.
    I could use a few of those DC Drive Cables - certainly a less expensive option than buying replacement batteries! In the past I've hacked old batteries by removing the old cells and ran cables from the charge/protection circuit board out to fresh Li-Ion batteries that worked well but the drive cable is a more elegant solution.

      Yes, In theory the high end 3CCD MiniDV should look far superior to the low cost consumer grade cameras. The thing I can't really understand is how bad all standard definition cameras look to me today. My 3CCD Canon XL1S doesn't really look all that good to me compared to HD. Probably has something to do with deinterlacing and how it looks on digital TVs versus interlaced footage on the old CRTs. I must figure it out one of these days.
      I put a link to the DC cable in the description. They are really inexpensive compared to these impossible to find batteries.
      Thanks for watching.

    Back to Back Ws! Love to see it. Learn something new in regards to that DC Drive Cable, Glad you found a working PC55! You are now the owner of Two of the smallest Video Recording Camcorders in their respective for formats in working conditions. Those PC55 batteries really are a nuisance. They were also used in The Sony PC1000, which seems to be a upgraded PC55 with a viewfinder and 3CMOS. I MIGHT gamble on a PC55. Regardless, Happy for you man, cheers!

      Thank you so much. The PC55 just wouldn't let me rest with three broken ones I wanted to try again. I was prepared to ask you all to talk me out of buying any more. Now I can move on from the smallest to my next challenge.
      Thanks for watching.

    I do have one good battery and have found a battery store in Australia that is having some made and will be available later this year.

    • @WaybackRewind

      That is good news. I would like to have a functioning battery.

    Both of my PC55s should arrive in the next 2 days so can do a comparison V my PC1000. Providing the PC55s works :)

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  Před měsícem +1

      It's 50/50 if the PC55s will work. And sometimes they will start working spontaneously.

      @@WaybackRewind Yeah I received the 2 x PC55 today. One of them is working perfect from the start and the other not but I have left it running for about 30min and the sensor must be coming alive as the LCD is starting to show flickering so fingers crossed.
      Also the limp LCD is caused by a plastic cam ring which has cracked. The IP7 also arrived and looks like new and works perfect. :) The IP1E Handy Station arrived to so will try some Firewire recording from my HDV Handycam.

      @@Raptor50aus thanks for the report. Seems like they cut corners on a few items that break on most of them like the cam ring and the sensor. Been searching the world for that handy station and can’t find one anywhere.

      @@WaybackRewind The second PC55 camera is stuffed but the other is working great. I received 2 x PC1000s and they were not packed well at all. One of them I could hear something rattling inside if I picked it up and rotated it. It was the camera unit. A lens had dislodged and was lose inside. After some micro surgery I have fitted the lens back and its working fine. Don't recommend if your not experienced. Also scored a high capacity original Sony battery A series that fully charges :) So have 2 x now, one is standard capacity and the high capacity.

      Congratulations.
      My number 4 camera stopped working again. It only worked long enough for me to shoot through sample footage. These PC55 cameras are cursed.

    I wish I never sold my PC55! It was such a fun little camera, i prefered using it over my better quality HC96. Are you familiar with the larger 3CCD PC1000? I wish i had it!

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  Před měsícem

      I am struggling to find a working PC55 and you sold yours, lol. I was not familiar with the PC1000. I probably need to get one and try it out. I doubt that it will look dramatically better though.
      Thanks for watching.

      @WaybackRewind The HC96 & PC1000 had surprisingly great looking standard def footage! My HC96 footage holds up to this day. Sharp & colorful for SD footage

      The PC1000 is still available for sale online. I have 2 of them. Great little camera.

      I looked at a couple on eBay. Unfortunately, it uses that same crazy battery that is impossible to find working.

    got two of these in the mail. One used twice and has the original tag over it and stored for 20 years. The other used and has issues despite being sold as working. The one never used has a black screen and at first picked up faint light and went black when i shined in a dull light (hardly bright) and now its just black. The other one has a constantly scrolling screen. Any fixes to these?

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  Před 7 dny

      My 4th one will only work if I leave it on overnight. And then will fail as soon as I turn it off. These cameras are not very reliable. I don't know a way to fix them permanently. I consider that every single one is bad at this point. Sorry.
      Thanks for watching.
