Shannon found Steve at her vets office. He came from a zoo setting and was living in the dog kennels. Shannon made it her mission to befriend him and get him to a safe home. And that is exactly what happened. When she brought Steve home, it took her 3 hours to get him inside. But as the days passed he became more and more comfortable. He now gets along with his pig sister, all his little ferret brothers and sisters and his cat siblings. He now spends his days swimming, asking for cuddles and delicious food.

@@benjamindover5676 That's why it pays to have your pet spayed or neutered, as is recommended for *all* pets. Usually when you do that, it eliminates most of the problems. 👍
Don't feel bad. Steve has his pack ... even if it's not his kind. He appears content and well adjusted. That is not an animal that feels alone.
He has probably forgotten that other pacis exist, and has not concept of being the only one of his kind around.
I am more alone than Steve. These people have given him a proper home where he is loved x1X

All that Australia needs is another invasive species.. :) They breed quite rapidly. Crocodiles and Alligators do see them as prey but I would guess little else would in Australia.

Yes, other capies would be best…but we all do not receive ideal original families, and most of us must make the best of life. The water is their favorite thing, so it is a relief he had a pond.
What a loving family. Capybaras are not a cheap pet. The vet specialist care, the diet.. is $$$$. And they are made to be in a family herd. So it is a major commitment.

They honestly look (& act, minus any aggression) like a combo between a Guinea Pig & a Hippo.
