How Gut Bacteria Diversity Improves Health

  • In this video I discuss how the gut microbiome plays a crucial role in our overall health, including inflammation and atherosclerosis. By maintaining a diverse gut flora, we can regulate our immune system and minimize the risk of chronic diseases. A healthy diet rich in whole foods, fibers, and omega-3 fatty acids is essential to support the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and improve gut function.
Additionally, the gut-brain axis also plays a significant role in our health. The vagus nerve connects the gut to the brain, and the bidirectional communication between the two can impact both our physical and mental well-being. By addressing gut health, we can improve symptoms of various conditions, including cardiovascular issues, as well as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
To maintain good health, it is essential to focus on improving gut health, increasing the diversity of gut bacteria, and consuming a nutrient-dense diet that fosters the growth of beneficial bacteria. This can not only reduce inflammation and the risk of chronic diseases but also improve the overall quality of life.
    Hope you enjoy!

One of the best ways to balance your gut is to do some extended fasting to get rid of the gut bacteria that unbalance the gut. These usually overgrow because you eat a lot of simple carbs that allows them to go wild and outgrow the more beneficial ones, that usually require more nutrients than just sugar to grow and grow slower. Many of these guys feed on the other guys and that is the benefit, like l reuteri. Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time.
    Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Telomeres are lengthend and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' that is not supposed to be there.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles as much as 1/3 of all immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many medications are dangerous to take while fasting so you may have to talk to your dr. about discontinuing them during a fast.
Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, which destroys them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

Dr. Jamnadas, I’d like your opinion about a hypothetical diet for a tall healthy American male in his early 50’s. Weight is stable around 195. Height is stable at 6’6”. 😂. He wants to gain muscle. He eats his water soluble natural (not synthetic) vitamins upon waking. Next, he drinks a large Starbuck’s latte with Sucralose. Next, he drinks 23-grams of Kirkland’s extra-virgin olive oil with a little sea salt before eating his fat-soluble natural vitamins (including 3-grams of EPA and 2-grams DHA) - with my first serving of 28-grams of 100% grass-fed/finished whey isolate with no carbs/no fat and 20-grams of collagen. Next, he drinks a scoop of Green Vibrance (25-billion probiotics per serving) with 15-grams of psyllium husks. For lunch, usually Chipotle white rice and meat (pork and chicken) with hot sauce. Then I take my second (last) serving of the whey isolate and collagen. Dinner is take out food - but light on the starches and carbs. No nighttime snacks. Only water to drink all day. Never soda. Blood pressure is amazing. Tons of omega-3 fatty acids. Hypothetically, what else could this male do for health and hypergamy. Thank you for what you do!

Sir, good morning. I have already done a 27 days fasting, then a 15 days fasting program. Now myself is in a 13 days fasting program. Now a advanced pancreatic patient (of 65 yrs old male ) is on only water fasting for last eleven days. In last 11 days only 12 hours stomach pain with 15 hour temperature comes and automatically gone without any pain killer. From last eleven days there is no chemo, no pain killer nothing given to the patient except water. Now he is feeling a painless situation. In lever function test all parameters are in normal range except ALP-867.3, SGOT-53.56, ALT/SGPT- 66.50, GGT-208.6. Before fasting bilurumin range was 15-16, now it's 1.2, lever proteins are also within range. In Total blood count report WBC-31.3, hemoglobin - 9.4, neutrophils-92, all other parameters are within range. Is, the high WBC indicates high infection or anything else. Here is the problem is neighter any oncologist nor any other doctor support this fasting treatment. So, sir please say to complete reversal of advanced pancreatic cancer , minimum how many days we have to water fast. In 11 days it's a pretty improvement..Is 30 is sufficient.. please suggest.if any other doctor support and understand this fasting treatment please comment..my WhatsApp/phone number is +91-8895896582.

This is all very good, and Dr. Pradip Jamnadas explains very well in interesting detail the importance of the gut bacteria to the entire body, and the importance of the vagus nerve. He points out that the gut bacteria/microbiome are the 'heart of your jealth", which is a very important point. He talks about the importance of eating properly in maintaining the gut bacteria, or microbiome. But he does not directly address the need to put plants at the center of the diet for nourishing the proper gut bacteria. He makes a few references to it, but does not give that message the central place it deserves. where do we get fiber and the needed diversity of fiber? it comes from whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruit, nuts and seeds. Meat, fish, dairy have zero fiber. Only plants have the fiber to feed the gut bacteria. People need not become vegetarian or vegan, but a diversity of plant foods need to be at the center of our daily food intake, with meat, fish, dairy etc. on the periphery, and greatly reduced in volume. Americans typically get twice as much protein as needed and a mere fraction of the necessary fiber. Perhaps Americans of Asian decent do better than the average, but it seems that all ethnic groups eat rather poorly after they acculturate to America.
