    It's insane how well this works. I am curious if there is a way to ground it even better for a portable application like a kayak or an ice fishing setup. Anyone have any ideas how to provide a extra grounding without holding the terminal?

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 2 lety +1

      When using it in a kayak or ice fishing, the transducer in the water provides the additional grounding you need. This is just for when using at home.

    That’s great but my Ti2 has started doing this on the water. It seems to be getting worse as in more often and turning it off and on again sometimes more than once eventually fixes it. Starting to hate the thing.

  • @plattevalleyguideservice394

    I guess I don't understand the grounding issue. I'm having the same problem on my ti2 units I just bought, but in a big walleye boat, you can't just touch the negative terminal while touching the screen of the unit at the same time. Then what? Is there some sort of screen sensitivity setting I can mess with?

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 3 lety

      Well you can try the touch screen recalibration. Sometimes that helps. But if it's doing it on the boat you can always try installing a grounding plate. Also, does it do this when on the water or just when it's trailored?

    • @plattevalleyguideservice394
      @plattevalleyguideservice394 Před 3 lety

      @@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks for the reply. Far as I can tell, it does it both on the water and trailered. I noticed the other day when my finger was wet, it responded better, but I shouldn't have to do that. Never had a bit of problem with my HDS touch units. Tell me more about this grounding plate, please.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 3 lety

      @@plattevalleyguideservice394 The grounding plates are really easy to install. You can generally put them them just about anywhere on the boat. A lot of larger boats already have then pre-installed but if yours doesn't, you simply screw it down somewhere (I usually put them under my console) and then you run a 14-16 gauge wired from the grounding plate to the negative wire on your power cord. Then you also run a wire from the plate to something thats decently large and metal on the boat. Can literally be just about anything. This will give you the additional grounding that you need.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 3 lety

      @@plattevalleyguideservice394 and the water on your fingers helps ground it slightly as well cuz the electrolytes on your skin increase conductivity when their wet like that. So essentially it's using your body to ground the system. Its actually the same concept as to how those types of touch screens work. It uses the electrical signals in your body to detect when and where you touch the screen as opposed to simply using pressure like some older touchscreens use.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 4 lety

      Yes putting the battery on the ground works as well. Just not a good idea for long term use cuz it will drain your battery a lot faster when it's on the ground.

    What can I do if this is happening on the boat?? I’ve had this issue with my HDS live 7 on my kayak. I had a used model (like new) that I bought from Amazon. I called lowrance and we went through the whole gamut of fixes from multiple soft and hard resets, screen calibrations, log wipes, software updates. Nothing works. My battery is in a waterproof battery box, I checked all cables and wires and everything looks solid. I get great voltage. I even have this issue when I did a direct connection to my trolling motor battery (given this was on land).
    Here’s the kicker… I bought a brand new HDS Live 7 and today on the water I have the SAME issue. At this point I’m ready to give up and just stick to my Humminbird. No one answering the phone at lowrance is anything more than your typical Amazon style customer service rep. I can’t find any local experts to help… I’ve checked forums, groups and tried every solution offered…
    Do I need to make some change to my entire battery setup? If there is some way to contact you guys to talk that would be amazing.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před rokem

      There is a couple other things you can try. If its happening with the HDS ( which is unusual) then I would install a grounding plate on the bottom of your boat and run a large gage wire from the negative on the battery to it. A lot of boats already have them but not all. Technically water is also considered ground. Sometimes you can just install a grounding plate on something metal on the boat. Definitely don't want to connect to the trolling motor battery.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před rokem

      Lowrance is only open from 8:30 to 5:00ish Monday thru Friday. So you can only call during those times. If it was just the Elite and nothing else it could be a bad display but if your HDS is also having same issue it's more likely a grounding issue.

    • @k_sr20
      @k_sr20 Před rokem

      This is the first time anyone has offered any sort of solution to this. What can I do with me being in a kayak Though? The battery to my fish finder is in a waterproof box inside the hull. In this case would I instead find a metal plate to drill or Velcro down in the hull and run an extra wire from the battery to that piece? Trying to picture how I could do this in a kayak.
