    I've had a Formula Carbon Composite for a few months now. It's the 1st helmet I don't mind wearing. It was also the most I have ever spent on a off road helmet. The CC is light enough and "feels" like a much more expensive helmet.

      I'm a 6D guy myself and I've sold many of each of those brands including the competitor brands. After being in the powersport industry and working for many brand name companies, after doing research of them all, 6D came out to be the winner for me due to all the research I did. The rheon product found in Fly is the same just named differently in fox, leatt and other brands that use it. The only difference I believe is how the helmet shell is built and how the padding is position when trying them on. Now the latest what mx helmet companies are doing is making the head liner adjustable like Alpinestars and other brands. Oh and if you purchase a 6D and crash, you send it back to 6D and they will replace the eps liner for a fee of $149 and also inspect it, call you and let you know the outcome of the helmet. You are correct about fitment, it all comes down to how well the brand will fit for that person. Not all brands fit equally. Great review on the Fly sir.

  • @EarthSurferUSA
    @EarthSurferUSA Před 6 měsíci +2

    There is a new shell coming out that is said to work better than Mips. It is called a "round" shell. No ridges on the shell to grab the ground, and twist your neck off.

  • @DmitriyAdv
    @DmitriyAdv Před rokem +4

    The concussion and low speed crash element is not discussed/advertised enough in the moto helmet world, but it's SUPER important. Especially for offroad and trail riders, where most of the crashes are relatively low speed. The traditional safety mechanisms inside helmets (EPS and shell) are not designed for that kind of crash, they're designed to keep your skull intact in a road or MX track accident. So you're really paying a ton of money for protection that's not really working as well as it could for you. That's where the 6D, Fly, Leatt, and other helmets with the additional very soft impact / concussion oriented protectors are awesome.
    Just like an MX bike is not idea for singletrack, I wish helmet makers would make more of a delineation between what kind of riding their helmets are good for.

    • @DmitriyAdv
      @DmitriyAdv Před rokem +1

      Also - thanks for a great review. This helmet and the Leatt are at the top of my list. I went with a Leatt because they had a 50% off sale which made for a crazy good deal. If you're looking for something to try, give one of those a go. The Leatt helmets are rated to the new ECE 22.06 standard, and they publishes all of their testing data, which is pretty interesting to read.
      I also have a 6D which I really like, but like you said it's on the bigger side... though it's honestly not that noticeable when riding because it's actually super comfortable. A big benefit to the 6D is that they are rebuildable and it's way cheaper than buying a new $500+ helmet.

      @the.pineapple Před 2 měsíci +2

      Although this is an old comment, I have to chime in as I just recently experienced the same exact scenario you described and started looking at helmet protection from a totally different perspective now. I am not even considering a helmet if I cannot stick my finger into the EPS and feel that is soft. Your comment should pinned to the top.

    • @DmitriyAdv
      @DmitriyAdv Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@the.pineapple right on! Hope you came away from your "experience" intact.
      My own anecdotal evidence is enough proof to me. I'd get a headache from every tap to the head (branches, small tip overs, normal offroad stuff) in helmets without dedicated concussion prevention... even a top of the line premium helmet with MIPS. Never happened in a 6D or Leatt, even after some hard knocks.

Bottom line is I bought the CC to better use goggles and as a "second" helmet, though now I think it'll be most of the time. When I put it on I feel, I don't know, safe, which is quite an inner statement for a guy who's had knockout concussions (um, even the old helmets kept the brains in my head :-) (debatable) from doing stupid stuff on a mountain bike. It fits great, opens wide, and doesn't make my goggles smash close my nose breathing. Besides, it looks cool

    I just received a Klim F3 carbon pro, and I think it tips the scales at about 2lbs 7-8oz, (not DOT approved). I can tell right now it is the best helmet I ever had, but I have not had a good quality helmet since the Bell Moto-5. :) I am sure I would like this one too. But I think Mips does work some, but is over rated. The fact is, the more a force that causes rotation, (force on an angle, deflected), the less blunt force it is. Mips works best when the blunt force is the least, and probably hit the end of their travel before your neck starts moving. A helmet that is a little too big will do the same thing, and a round helmet shell would probably work better too. :)

    Just picked this helmet up, $370 on sale, it’s extremely light, I had a 2017 fly formula carbon and I had gnarly crash two months ago, smashed my face into the dirt snapped my arm and broke my nose, however I wasn’t knocked out and I wasn’t concussed, and I never had a headache after it neither which is crazy cause I landed on my arm and my face hard from being thrown in the air and rode off the berm in third gear lol. The fly lids are serious stuff 💪 only thing I don’t like too much about this one is I got the same size as my other fly that I’ve now retired and it’s extremely tight to get on but fits snug when on.

      I just received a Klim F3 carbon pro. It is a nice helmet, but I found a couple flaws. 1 is some flaws, (just a few tiny pieces in the paint), on the shell and visor, not a big deal to me really. Next is the rubber trim around the vent holes above the goggles is crooked, (glued crooked). I can fix the funny shaped holes because of it with a exacto blade. Last is a design error. My liner covers up about 95% of the largest rear 2 vent/exhaust holes, and almost no air will escape from those vents. The liner needs to be redesigned, or they put it together with the wrong one. The helmet is great looking, fits great, very light and is the best helmet I ever had. But that is the kind of stuff we nave grown to accept (unfortunately), with china made products. It broke my heart to see it made in china, then I started finding the little flaws. :)

      Maybe you hit your head harder than you think you did, and the helmet did its job. You might want to consider sending it back to see if the energy absorption material is compressed. I was not there of course, but if the foam is compressed, you probably hit your head harder than you thought. If it is not compressed, then you either get concussions pretty easily, or that foam is too hard,---I would think anyway. :) Doug in Michigan.

      My Klim F3 carbon pro is not DOT certified (a selling point to me). So it is not legal for the road. I am just doing 30 mph max single track, and i am glad I have the option to get a lighter and less expensive helmet than what DOT will allow. I know the protection is just fine with the ECE certification. Personally, I would rather have a good court system than government regulation on our stuff. 1 law suit can fix a bad company pretty fast. The baby sitters are getting out of control, and I would not be surprised if the improved materials today, (and a check on reality), out date their methods. Is the Klim F3 carbon pro really a sub par helmet for protection because it is not DOT certified? I bet not, and so far, that bet saved me at least $100.00 and at least .5lbs. :)
