  • Here's 3 things to try next time you're working on your sculling draw. The sculling draw is a great move to have in your arsenal, so working on making it efficient will help reduce wasting energy to move your kayak around.
    Cheers!

Excellent information is always. The only , I would have is that the paddle should be as vertical as possible for the most efficient movement. Vote on edge toward the blade with a vertical blade means the water movement is undirectly under the hull. There's a trade-off, though. With the blade less vertical provides more support. The balance is increased efficiency and.greater support. For me, paddle position would depend upon the conditions. In rougher water support is more important for me than efficiency.

Love it! I think new kayakers tend to make kayaking or paddling an exercise of the arms. When, as you show here, it is an exercise of the core muscles. I find I am intuitive in the water. But this is really good points to refine technique. Something you could not be aware of with all the aspects of a stroke. Being mindful of what you're doing makes kayaking and paddling a lot more fun and efficient. Excellent reminders. Thanks so much.

Awesome. One more thing that can help is to knee-hang and drop the hip away from the direction of movement. So if you’re drawing to the left, drop your right hip. I guess this depends on the kayak shape and has more impact for a boat with a hard chine; it just gets the chine out of the way so the hull can better glide over the water.
On another note: is it just the camera angle, or is your paddle asymmetrical?

Great video - I LOVE THE SKULLING DRAW! - I did a “how to” video on all three draws. Really nice. Love the carbon fiber Greenland stick… you’re such a hipster.

Fully agree - and looking at where you want to go instead of staring at the paddle! I was trying to fathom out the make of your paddle - not your usual Gearlab

That’s a great point. No prob, this is a Nimbus prototype the guys have been working on, it’s been great paddling with it. Cheers!
