6 Months Later: DJI ACTION 3 vs GoPro 11 (Every New Mode)

- The new firmware changed this camera completely. They should call it DJI Osmo Action 3.5 now. The difference from 6 months earlier is massive!
So obviously I had to go back, mount the GoPro Hero 11 next to it again and see how they compare now. I included lots of comparison side-by-side shots for you to decide for yourself.
This time without any color grading at all. Every clip is straight out of camera unless it's labeled as "Color Graded" at the top. Enjoy!

Crazy to see how much the OA3 improved just by software updates.
PS: That last clip was in HDR mode. It's my go-to now.
The update on the DJI looks really good and apparently made a noticeable difference.
Would you still prefer the Gopro 11 after the DJI got updated, or did you change your mind?
I‘ve recommended the OA3 before for its price to performance. And now it‘s a no-brainer with only minor differences in quality. I don’t see a reason anymore to pay so much extra for a GoPro.
HDR mode is a good counter for the exposure and „blur“ issues. And with min shutter and max iso you can further limit how bright and dark it gets.
I‘ll personally be using it more often. As a bonus, the magnetic mounts are 🤌 for what I do
Hey man, love the videos, I currently have an action 1, do you think its worth the upgrade to the OA3? given I wont do any color correction or anything like that I think
I can't really speak on the difference to the OA1, as I never had it. But it's a noticeable step up from the Action 2 in terms of usability and quality.
Really depends on what you film with it and if the improvements (incl. magnetic mounts) you see here are worth it to you.
4K 30FPS is fine for pretty much anything, 60FPS or even 120 only for slow motion shots.
@@SuspensionTraveler I mostly film my bike rides, OA1 can do 4k 60 fps, but it drains the battery too much, so I usually go for 2k, I tried 4k in Leogang, full recording from top to bottom and the battery was flat at the bottom, luckily I have 2 more batteries, I do like how the magnetic mounts look, I'll think about upgrading then, thanks for the feedback!
Edit: Just watched your videos. It's going to be a big jump from OA1 ;) Audio, Resolution, FOV, HDR, everything.

Yeah the OA3's batteries will last you pretty much a full day. I still carry a second one for HDR mode.
For biking you'll love the magnetic mounts. No worries!
finally! another comparison video. The action 3 is getting ever closer! just through software updates. anyways, what's your manufacturing date on your Action 3? it seems like it's better focused. or did you get DJI to replace it somehow? anyways, thank you for this comparison. I can see clearly the differences between the modes. I think DJI has caught on to the GoPro. it's no longer a 90/10 split on quality. now it's more like 55/45 still leaning over gopro a little bit. I still think it has better tone mapping. but it's no longer night and day difference. anyways! always ride safe!!
Agreed. Which footage you prefer is now more of a personal taste.
GoPro may have a slight edge still, while DJI is ahead in usability.
I bought mine right when it came out in October I think. You can see it's kinda soft in the first comparison. So it looks like they managed to fix the focus / blur issue via software update.
@@SuspensionTraveler DJI keeps getting better, I also prefer it's straighter lines on the action 3. but if you must have the highest quality. then gopro is the way. but now I think with HDR. It hardly makes any differences. Now I'm looking forward to a comparison, if you ever make another one, riding the trails on your first review.
Yeah, you can't go wrong now.
But please don't hold your breath for a third side-by-side comparison. Maybe when the next generation comes out in October.
But until then, I'll post regular riding videos with one or the other. So you'll see some real life (graded) footage using my favorite settings (HDR most likely)
@@SuspensionTraveler btw, hows your gopro doing so far? still no lags, freezes or battery pulls? I'm just wondering cause I still hear a lot of those problems from other people.
@@melparayno21 Good question. I had to pull the battery once or twice due to freezing. But no corrupted files or any catastrophic issues still.
That may be due to bad / not entirely compatible SD cards if I had to guess.
I got a Sandisk for what it's worth.
what about external MICROPHONE for busy roads or rushi areas OA3?
Im anderen Video hattest du den Windfilter auch über dem FarbtemperaturSensor vorn im Action- Logo. Hast du da mal getestet, ob das einen Unterschied macht, den verdeckt zu haben oder nicht?

Der tut nur was wenn der Weißabgleich auf automatisch gestellt is.
Was nur bei der 1. Abfahrt ohne Windsocke eingestellt war.

If price is not the the first decision item. Would you go for OA3 or H11 ?
Upgraded image quality looks now OA3 is a really viable option.
But in all video you've made for DH Biking (I'm also buying for 90% Enduro Biking), I prefer so much the FOV of the OA3.
So hard choice I need to made this weekend to replace "old" H9 that died 2 weeks ago.

I'd say go for the one that looks best to you. You can't go wrong with either and most accessories work with both.
They do have their distinct look, colors and FOV being two big differences.
I personally like DJI's FOV more, both Wide and Ultrawide. GoPro seems to warp in weird ways, especially Hyperview (I never use it).
Also, the magnetic mount is sooo nice to use when biking!
Usability of OA3 is much better, with quality now pretty equal, so I'll be using it more from now on.

Eine Frage, kann man die DJI Action auch am GoPro Brustgurt befestigen ohne irgendwie alles wackeliger zu machen? Oder benötigt man den DJI Gurt? Werde wohl meine Insta 360 X2 gegen die DJI Action 3 eintauschen :)
Und noch was :X Benutzt du ein externes Micro? Oder ist das so aufgenommen von der Cam selbst? Bei der Insta 360 X2 hatte ich beim Biken da so meine Probleme.
Die Magneten halten bombenfest! Die haben bisher alles mitgemacht mit mir (auch Stürze). Und die haben dieselben zwei Füßchen wie eine GoPro, also muss man nur fest genug zuziehen. Da wackelts oder klackerts kein bisschen mehr.
Von den Gurten hab ich beide, und der GoPro Chesty ist schon nochmal leiser.
Externe Mikrofone bin ich noch skeptisch beim Biken wegen Regen, Pfützen und Staub. Die OA3 hat wenigstens ein extra Türchen zum USB C abseits vom Akkufach. Bei der GoPro legt man alles mit einer Türe frei.
Bisher bin ich mit onboard Mikros uns Schaumstoff drüber ausgekommen. (Und digitale Windreduzierung aus!)

after so many updates, has the quality of the dji improved enough that you will use it more than the gopro? I'm wondering about these cameras, in terms of diving (otherwise also difficult conditions) and will the video quality in 4k/60 be similar to gopro or will I feel worse quality?
Now that the quality and dynamic range is very similar, I'll happily take advantage of OA3's usability (and magnets!) and use it more.
Good settings are still a big part of getting good footage with either.
I can't speak on diving tho, as that's not what I do.
@@SuspensionTraveler There is a mount for GOPRO that will let you use it with the DJI style of mounts.

That's not a bad idea... I may do that one day.

It's important to me that the device has a HDMI output so I can view it on an external monitor during recording. I don't think the DJI has an HDMI output. And the GoPro Hero 11 requires a module that (according to some Amazon reviews) can be flaky. Any suggestions on a GoPro type camera with a built-in HDMI output? Thanks, Rowby
I can't think of any current one tbh. In the past there were action cams with an HDMI port, but those are pretty much gone to save space I would assume.
DJI can be used as a webcam via USB C for what it's worth.

Is the 4K have over heating ?how long it can record video in 4K?
Not at all if you use it like an outdoor action cam.
you‘ll only get it to overheat when it’s indoors and not moving.

Das 3-er Set von DJI.
Benutz aber nur den ND8 davon.
ND4 und ND8 wären optimal, falls es die einzeln gibt.
