I’ve seen a lot of “survival kit” how to videos over the years. Apparently no one has ever had to use one for very long, or at least not so long that they dulled their cutting tools, because virtually no one ever mentions how necessary it might be to have a freaking sharpening stone of some sort as part of their basic kit.

@@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft Another suggestion if you write a book, include QR codes that can be scanned with a phone and it takes you to a short video to further explain or show in greater detail what words just can't always convey. I have never seen a book have this, but man, I think that would be a huge plus for any book, which is now a book/video. Just a thought. Keep up the great work.
I forgot to add too, the QR code can take you to your Amazon store or wherever to buy certain harder to find gear, like a chapter on survival kits, scan the code and it takes you to just the survival kit items and so forth.

Wonderful instruction over the years Andrew. Last week I was in a thrift store. An intermediate bag of the MSS caught my eye. Scattered on the shelves I found 2 complete sets minus on compression bag. They had seperate price on each individual peice. Walked out of there having only spent $38.67. Being on a limited income this was an incredible Christmas in January. With the current temps in Kansas this old man is very happy to have one in my old pickup truck, just in case. My med. LC1 Alice is kitted for summer and my $24.99 thrift store 80 ltr Gregory pack is kitted for winter. Visit your thrift stores y'all.

    Advice from personal experience.
Keep the bandaids in a small baggie/similar to remain dry/clean if the items get dropped/blown by wind/storm.
Another pill bottle may be able to contain the medical items.
Also, if space available, medical kit include a surgery blade/xacto blade/utility knife blade and needle.
Spare headlight batteries, 5 AAA will fit in a 35mm film bottle.

Good information in accordance to the manual. I would suggest to add batteries or rechargeable batteries, charging cable(s) and a power brick for your phone or headlamp, etc... All those items you mentioned from the time the manual was printed are viable but because of new modern equipment some items need to be switched out. The Leatherman signal has all the tools plus a ferro rod and whistle. One piece of fat wood in each level. Petzl head lamp and Core rechargeable battery last 30 days if used on low or medium light before needing to be charged again. Something to sharpen or hone your knife blade that is small and compact. Some #36 bank line to use and discard if need be. 550 is great for a ready made ridgeline but the inside cords are hard to work with and hard to keep a good knot. Take the time and fill the core of the 550 cord with #36 and #12 bank line gives you more strength and better cordage to use for fishing and for securing things. You can also get the Micro Ready Rope raw and put your #36 line on the spool and carry that in your different level kits. Its small/compact, has a blade, and has room for a small Bic lighter. Great video and information to get the brain thinking.

For fishing line, I rarely ever see anybody using the power pro fishing line. I don’t know what that stuff is made out of but you can get an 80 pound test that’s as thin as this monofilament stuff that I usually see people having in their kits and you can do crazy stuff with it like braiding it to make a heavier gauge twine. I’ve been using that stuff for years and I absolutely love it. It’s great for fishing as well as many other applications.

1:00 hearing you explain your experience in Ranger school with the number of guy starting, finishing, and of the ones completed receiving their coveted Ranger Tab, is exactly the same as when I went through Ranger School in 1964. We started with about 150-175, roughly 70-80 completed, however maybe 40 of us received the Ranger tab. Those completing nine weeks of hell yet not qualifying for their Ranger Tab received a certificate which basically stated thanks for being here, bye. There were not do-overs, you either passed that phase successfully making it through another week, or they sent you back to your duty unit Ba-Bye. We were evaluated every day and night. As for night, we were extremely sleep deprived. Any missteps and the like, you were gone, no questions asked, no pleading for another attempt, you were gone. Nine week Ranger school was a living hell. In my right desk drawer is my Ranger Tab, Airborne tab along with the 101st patch as well. My Ranger and Airborne certificates are on my home office wall, two very special cherished pieces of paper. On the back of my vehicle are the stick-on 101st patch and a larger Ranger tab as well. Yes, sir I am 79+ years old and remain very proud of my Ranger accomplishments. Oh, during those nine weeks they guy they pared me with lost about twenty-five to thirty pounds. At graduation his wife did not recognize him.

I would like to make a remark about the featured "Commando Chain Saw" from my own experience. I find that it takes a disproportionate time and energy expense in use. For the volume and mass, a couple of good wire saws could be taken. They cut much faster and easier. Or, if a bit more volume is allowed, and for the same weight, a small Silky-saw would be way better.

As a matter of fact I believe years ago I came across an article where somebody used one of those vests but probably a little better quality and by attaching velcro they were able to attach pouches to it. The other thing is I know that they sell those little waterproof boxes at Walmart but I picked a couple up of all places at Aldi's.

I would have never thought of that brilliant idea. Being I'm a semi truck driver, have a half dozen of those stashed throughout my tractor cab. I'll pick out the rattiest looking one and use it for this. Thanks for the idea.👍
😁I also have two Rangergrip 78's (standard red handle scales). One I use daily for food prep in my semi truck, and one I keep in my survival kit along with a Rangergrip 71 and Rangergrip 74. Along with two more Rangergrip 71's stashed back at the house, as those are one of the models Victorinox is discontinuing. You could say I have an unhealthy obsession with these Rangergrip SAKs.😬

You always present information in a ways that If I had a situation going down then I could come here get what info needed and apply. Although I am trying to effect my own survival by and through practice.
Now can you fix my failing relationship with my girlfriend😂😂😂

Please read one or more versions of "Family Constellation" by a great psychologist named Walter Toman. If that doesn't help you with your heartthrob, nothing will. That and work on your patience and self-control. Good luck to you both.

Rangers have come a long way since 1970s. Your video is very informative and impressive.
I’ve tried attaching a bob with all the necessities to my bug-out walker. It all fits better in the back seat of my truck.
Camping, bugging out is a bit out of the question now although I still have a small GHB in my vehicles.
Enjoy and do it while you can. Teaching others of your experiences is a gift you give rather well and I hope received well.
    RLTW.
