I've read your comments and gotta say I had no idea about the ducks
What a beautiful top comment, as someone who knows.
There are certainly a lot of weird and wonderful things when it comes to reproductive organs.
And also several horrifying things, like that one species of bug or something that literally stab their parts into a female's abdomen, rather than use the already existing hole.
@@zarnox3071 Certain spider species have similar stuff going on as well, but I don't think it would make for a very fun video :D
Aahhahaahha
if you and any other people want more odd information on creature reproduction, a youtube channel named "Clint's Reptiles" has a GREAT video with this topic
The biggest win here is the knowledge that _Hotwheels_ is a recognized genus. Not species, genus. That means that we could hypothetically see more species of _Hotwheels_ spiders than just _H. sisyphus._
YEAH any subsequent spiders in this genus will also be named hotwheels and i think that's beautiful
Time to collect all the hot wheels!
"You wanna see my hotwheels collection?" I ask, reaching to open the door to my room in which thousands of spiders are kept. My date tries to run, but it's too late. His human physique could never hope to outrun the skittering mass advancing upon him. He is engulfed by spiders and consumed in mere moments. Only his nerdy glasses remain. I have already stolen his wallet.
The Hotwheels Spiders have been fed. I live another day completely of pests, but at what cost?
Now I have goal in life, to catalogue all the extant species of hotwheels.
@@RailfoxStudios I already own 10 tarantulas so whats a few thousand hotwheels?

Sorta like the length battle happening with Ducks
Really its going on in any species
In a weird case of convergent evolution, ducks also have a similar thing going on with the whole "labyrinthine vagina to counteract a stupid long penis"

„futile mating“? Tell that to the only one of those 3 spiders in the video that has lost the battle since birth… bad genes. Poor fella! The female can choose and the „Chad“ spider has good chances… only 1 has futility.

There’s something aesthetically blunt about a stock photo of a man who’s face is covered by a picture of a woman, who’s face is covered by an ms paint drawing of a cat, it’s like a stacking debuff to my central nervous system
About the "unworthy sperm" you reminded me how birds deal with that, especially chickens- hens can "cockblock" a rooster by basically squirting out their load if they don't want it, without issues of getting fertilized.
And then they put it on the rooster's salad and rule Egypt
Guppies have selective glue for similar purposes!

Very interesting video, even though it's definitely not even close to anything I would have ever expected from this channel.
Keep being random. It's quite refreshing to see a youtuber post whatever they like without too much concern about appealing to their regular audience :)
Keeping being random comes with the risk of the randomness itself becoming a constant, defying its original point. Watch it there
"Actually, you can apply the notion of 'most of the time' to everything I say, because there's lots of spider species and they're very diverse and there are probably exceptions to everything."
Honestly, that's true of pretty much everything in biology. Rules without exceptions are themselves exceptional.
That was interesting to say the least Spiders are indeed funky little fellas I find them quite neat 👍
I think out of all biologists arachnologists give the funniest names to species, a while ago I saw a species called Papuamyr omhifosga, "omhifosga" being an acronym for "Och, my head is full of spider genitalia" which I imagine is a common problem for arachnologists.
Not the video I expected but one I actually ended up listening to in fascination. Thanks for the educational content, Miss Northflowo 👌
hotwheels sisyphus is such a silly name and the stock images are so funny
and then it's a super serious video
good job 👍
I not joking when I say I want to see more of Northflowo doing fun anatomy/physiology lessons of random, obscure or unique animals in this same format.
It's so incredibly different from her usual style and I love it to death.
As someone who has a pet tarantula, today I realised I am not very good at spider anatomy.
A video about spider sex was NOT what i was expecting from this channel. Great video tho
The topic would be something I would expect form some less than SFW site like a NH monster girl Dojin
Although why is this interesting to me it's just so random? It's also nowhere near what I watch
Honestly i dont have any significant interest in spiders or even biology BUT it was really interesting to listen to this infodump and I DID end up watching the whole thing lol

'...evidence of an evolutionary battle over Reproductive Rights'. That is so funny. And feels like a perfect way of describing it. Though I can't well imagine how female spiders would knowingly evolve longer reproductive tracks.
Anyways thanks for the spider facts
Maybe the females with shorter tracks end up forced to have a clutch in bad conditions when a male by passes the storage system. Thus the spiders with shorter tracks get picked off sooner than the females that can choose the fertilization date.
How do the the male spiders evolve longer PPs? The kid spiders decide they don't want to end up like their momma's ex?
@@povilasbuda6490mutation leads to spider with longer pp, which is able to pass on its genetic material more effectively, so it ends up having more children than shorter pp spiders, so the trait becomes more common and spreads thru the population generation by generation; in other words, natural selection and survival of the fittest
They don’t, it’s just that having longer pp/pusspuss is evolutionarily advantageous so individuals who do end up having more babies
why did you capitalize "reproductive rights"? it's not a proper noun
Yay new random animal lore to add to my collection that i make my parents here about randomly
It's going right there with crossdressing cuttlefish, egg-bearing organ displacement in kiwis, hyena pseudopeni, giraffe fights, the dolphin LSD house study conducted with a grant from the US government that ended after it was found out that they were jacking dolphins off, trans lions, sea otters doing unspeakable atrocities to dead infant seals, the censored report on the sexual proclivities of the Adélie penguin, barbed cat penises, alpha wolves not being a thing, how terrifying hippos are, infanticidal cannibalism to provoke estrus in dolphins and chimpanzees, penguin kidnapping, orcas intentionally beaching themselves to hunt and working with whalers to find sperm whales, canine-human co-evolution, hominid expansion to the new grassland biome during the Myocene epoch, and crows in Japan reading road crossing signals.

"a visitor hmmm indeed"
This entire video is such a vibe and im here for your random info dumping
my initial assumption given the title was of a spider that evolved to speedrun some kind of torturous, sisyphean task so quickly that only the term "Hotwheels" could suffice.
That, or some INSANE Hotwheels lore.
The concept of a species of spider locked in an evolutionary battle over the bodily autonomy of the female is incredibly raw in the current sociopolitical climate
All life is warfare, even between the same species. Males and females are not complementary, they are adversarial. It’s an unfortunate quirk of evolution that the gametes you need to reproduce are trapped in the other sex’s body.
when i first read the title i thought the spider was discovered in some kid's hotwheel track, forever pushing a toy car up the neon plastic for the rest of eternity for tricking their arachnid higher power
And then you get infodumped about spidussy
So glad this is the first video I found from your channel. Thanks for finally answering the age old question.
