It was exceptional innings with some luck. Axar dropped Pope when he was in 110+ or so and he ended up 196. It was like Dinesh Chandimal of SL innings against India...once in a blue moon. Having said that, England had opportunity to take control, but in their madness of showing overt aggressiveness lost the plot and capitulated.

If he would have scored 1-2 half century after that knock then nobody would have called it fluke knock.
I think he needs to be moved back down the order he's not a number 3 & root back up

I'm not convinced he has the consistency to bat at 3, which then takes you off down the road of "where can he bat?".. At the start of his innings, he always looks like he will be out any ball.., not what you need from a test player..
Especially for number 3, he is a no go

I do. Test cricket is the ultimate form of cricket and test series are what I remember years later. I can't say I could give a monkeys about the IPL, PSL, Big bash, super smash, Abu Dhabi T10 league, SA20, Hundred or blast. Test is best!
Mate England shouldn’t be comparing themselves to anyone but Australia and India who out perform them basically all the time. They have 25 times the resources of any other countries except the big 3

Less talk and show and more game next time probably! Liked what I saw in patches, if the team sits down and gets better, the series in England sounds mouth-watering.
Unfortunately, he needs to be dropped for an actual number 3. Not learnt or kicked on whereas Zak Crawley is getting consistently better each series.

It was very similar to India tour of England in 2018. Even though the scoreline was 4-1 in favor of England, India more than pushed them on a number of occasions.

Against Ashwin in Ranchi he was bamboozled like anything.

Bazball atleast made the series entertaining and interesting,the English had their chances in the 3rd and 4th test,it is better to go at the attacking mode rather than be sitting ducks to Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep yadav.
Keaton Jennings is a very good player who should be given at 3rd position. Then root and pope at 5th.
