020 FAQs Part 008 - 90 Degree Parking (Forward In)

  • In this video I look at 90 degree parking (forward in). This is usually at the beginning and the end of the NSW P1 driving test. It is not an assessed manoeuvre but if the examiner has to intervene or help it can generate an F6 fail item.

    Hi Jimbo, I am happy to have discovered your channel 2 weeks before I take the exam. It helped heaps in boosting my confidence when driving. I watched your videos everyday. I took my exam in Gregory Hills and passed it on my 1st go.
    Thank you so much. More power to your channel! I shared your channel to all my friends who are learning or planning to learn to drive. I am sure it’s gonna help them a lot.

    Loving your videos! Teaching my step-duaghter to drive and you give some really good tips for those teaching others to drive. I think sometimes people forget that teaching someone to drive is quite difficult when explaining situations like parking, but you break it down really well with the diagrams and then demonstrating the practical situations. Thank you!

    I failed jimbo. I got 107% and I did not indicate left when going straight on a double lane 4 times when exiting the roundabout while going straight which resulted in a fail. I got a lot of ticks which I’m happy about, if it wasn’t for this I passed. I’m so gutted that I remembered everything but that and it all happened towards the end. As I was driving back it happened. 🥺so I passed until that time came but we all learn from our mistakes. Coming back stronger next year I’ve got another test booked for a 7:30 am session. Wish me luck and I will remember to do that round about exit indicator when turning left on and make sure it’s right. Thanks jimbo wish me luck

      Hi Reily i cant really comment on examiners because there are so many variables. They are human after all and have their different takes on things. Each driving test is different in difficulty level also because of the traffic. Some people get an easy run some people get it hard. Its just how it is. Aim to be prepared for the worst case scenarios and this increases the probability of passing.

    I couldn't quite see your steering wheel in this video. Do you do a full lock and then start turning into the spot? Or turn the wheel gradually? And do you have any tips about how I can work out when my wheels are straight again?

    • @thedrivingtestguynsw8424
      @thedrivingtestguynsw8424  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Evelyn the amount of steer i do really depends on where you start. As it's easy not to be in an exact same starting position each time your steering will have to adapt to that. Sometimes fast full lock then sometimes not so. The starting position is just a rough guide. It really gets down to practice. Start with the starting position I suggest (ie line up with the line before the car) and then do alot of them. After a while you get familiar with it. To judge centre steer I use a mark on the steering wheel (in my car the word SRS). I know if I am at full left or right lock if I steer back and when SRS passes the bottom the second time I am at centre. Or just simply move the car a bit and see if it moves straight or not.

    Hi Jimbo!
    I have my driving test in a few weeks and I’m extremely nervous, so much so that I’m scared I might purposely mess up but not on purpose (if that makes sense). Anyways, I wanted to ask if it’s okay for my car to be slightly angled/slanted when I park? Or should it be directly in and straight? Because I sometimes have to readjust to get it perfect.

    • @thedrivingtestguynsw8424
      @thedrivingtestguynsw8424  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Kelly with the parallel park and kerbstop the examiners allow a 10cm off parallel variance before they mark a circle minor errors. That means if your front or rear is angled sideways 10cm or more from parallel.That's actually not much. So if it's noticeably not straight expect a mark down. But this is just one circle error. My advice is just leave it as fixing it up may lead you to score more mark downs if you don't do it properly. Examiners don't mark the position of the 90deg park you do at the end of the test so it doesn't matter there.

      G'day G'day, if you are in a single turning lane then yes you can jump directly to the second lane. I call it "lane jumping" just to give it a name coz there is no name for it. Note also that you just use the left signal the whole time, you don't switch to right halfway through the turn. Dual lane roundabouts are a problem because the 2 lanes you are turning left into often have thick divider lines between them and you cant "lane jump" over that line to the second lane without some examiners getting upset. There is a bit more to it all but that's the short answer.
