gotta give props to Naroditsky here. He literally made nothing happening sound exciting.
"He has NOT changed position at all." Top-tier 😂
I skipped but knew Danya would have good nothing commentary lol

Magnus is the only person whose game ends with more time than it starts with.
Nepo in the previous world rapid championship against Duda, Caruana against Duda in the Superbet 2023 in classical, me in a classical game against a 1200…
@@claudiog7692 you can play classical game at 1200?
@@Sub_13Nep you can play classical games at literally any rating
I once got to play a 3+2 blitz game with MVL while he was reigning world blitz champion. He of course beat me and ended up with more time than he started 😂
@@gautam-narula in what occasion did you play him?
To everyone who is new to chess and especially this situation: Kovalev was intentionally taking extra time to make simple moves (he can also blitz these out in a few seconds) to level the time advantage. This was excellent sportsmanship from him. At 4:47 and 5:00 Carlsen adjusts pieces before pressing his clock to communicate to his opponent that he is okay with the time disadvantage now and Kovalev should no longer delay his moves. Kovalev then speeds up and they play an almost normal (bullet) game.
I respectfully disagree with your assessment, I do admire his sportsmanship of wanting to wait before the clocks were started but once Magnus arrived, he played quickly until he reached the theory phase and began contemplating what to play next to utilize his time advantage, it is not rare at the top level to see a very strong Blitz player waste a lot of time during the first 15 moves so I can understand why for those who are new to chess, it might look like he is being nice but that actually occurred before, obviously at the end of the day no one knows what actually happened except for Kovalev so we can just exchange our POVs
cheers for those insights, those Officials really know how to ''Stalin'' matches.
@@williamrobert9898 yeah i agree with you tbh. It did seem like he was thinking about possible ways to set up a complex position for himself against a world champion with little time knowing that the basic theories wouldn't leave him with a nice enough advantage
@@JustRisq Spot on 👏
@@williamrobert9898 This really is not "the theory phase". These players have at least 10 lines 12 moves deep in every opening. They are studying chess for many hours everyday besides being extremely naturally talented. I respectfully disagree. He was not thinking what to play. He might have been thinking about options but not because one option would have been better against Carlsen or not, rather what he would have enjoyed more. Even I, a 1700 player, know the theory here by heart.
props to daniel for talking the entire time. he was describing nothing happening, that's a talent

@@johndoee4964that’s another way to see it
@@johndoee4964I don't think he cares about 2 minutes, he was nervous because winning for default is not the best scenario, after he got there, that was equal he didn't care about 2 minutes 🤷🏻♂️
I think he let his clock run down on purpose to be a fair sportsman towards Magnus. He did go into full Blitzmode once the time got equal
Gotta disagree there, It is not the first time I saw someone getting extremely low on time after only a few moves played most notably Magnus himself plus Magnus was already in time trouble so it is not like Kovalev had a choice when the time was equal

Hats off to Danya, one of the best commentators in general. Always has something interesting to say even when nothing is happening
"He is still sitting in the same position" 😂
I was amazed at how he was comentating incredibly hard on multiple positions and posibilities while the two players were just chilling there. If I were blind, I'd guess this was the most intense chess game ever.
"At least he has pants on" got me dead 💀
I actually found it quite tiring how he didn’t stop talking even for one second.
😂😂😂👎🏻👎🏻
Naroditsky is so incredible. I don't understand how he can comment on these games so fast and so eloquently.
hes a GM bro, hes seeing the game faster than we are
He knows a lot of english. He graduated at Stanford University
It’s called Passion
@@patrickcox8990yes, the fast eyes and experience he needed to commentate minutes of nothing happening.
@@nemuonakpoya8592 Yea but why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
Most probably, he was being a good sportsman. He originally had asked the arbiter if he could wait for Magnus to join before starting the clock and the arbiter told him he needs to start the clock
Notice how after the game, Magnus Carlsen is completely relaxed. He was only physically challenged by running to the board at the start, not intellectually during the game
it's Magnus what do you expect. he was, however, very challenged in other settings.
his name is magnus… what do you expect from such a superhuman?
For real… i hate this guy, wondering if he chose this name later or if his parents were that hypocrite
@@harrison00xXx Actually his name is Sven.
And what sort of imbecile accuses someone's parent of hypocrisy for the name they choose for their child? One who has no idea what hypocrisy is, certainly.
I just watched Magnus beat 3 professors blindfolded
He remembered 3 boards in his head simultaneously
Gotta be hard for anyone to beat Magnus if he’s not blindfolded lol
This is the highest quality thumbnail I have ever seen
Lmfao truly hilarious 😂
When I thought I couldn't love Danya more he gives: 'At least he has pants on'. Pure gold 🤣
Magnus isn't late. He thinking about his next game 78th move 🤦.
Kovalev is absolutely not a slouch. It's a testament to Magnus' near superhuman mastery of chess that he was able to beat such a formidable opponent with such a time disadvantage.
how come Kovalev resigned the game? surely he could have lost his pawn to magnus ruck and then took magnus' ruck with his own and then went back up the board and around the back of magnus' king to take the advancing pawns?
@@s1dew1nd3r4 Surely you don't know how to play chess. Even I could have won that position against Kovalev or any other GM.
Magnus isn't going to lose his rook. White's passed pawn can't promote with his rook in front of it, and as soon as the rook moves black captures it. And meanwhile black is going to checkmate the white king confined to the 1st rank.
@@s1dew1nd3r4 Magnus did not need to take the pawn right then, Kovalev's own rook was blocking the promotion. No need for Magnus to sacrifice his rook for the pawn.
Kovalev let his clock run down on purpose to be a fair sportsman towards Magnus. He did go into full Blitzmode once the time got equal. He was intentionally taking extra time to make simple moves to level the time advantage hats of to Kovalev. I feel like magnus would get more respect if he shows up on time for his games...
I love Magnus adjusting the pieces unhurriedly 😅
Was to sign to the other player that he was okay with the time advantage and that they should play normal now. The other player let the time run down to make it more equal.

Many people think that Carson has only 30secs. Infact he has his opponent time too🤷.
Magnus is such a legend they commentate and show his table even when he's not there
Yooo 😂😂

I don't play chess and I don't understand it but I applaud the skill set of everyone, including the announcer. I could never do that.
I'm impressed that the announcer can make anything exciting, even nothing happening.
Commentator try to read what going on their mind
Plot twist: Carlsen actually showed up early, but stood at the entrance waiting to appear 30 seconds before time ran out.
The art of war
Magnus using all tactics
Literally kovalev killed the clock to equalize magnus s clock and magnus casually adjusts his piece while having 28 secs GOAT
I think that was to signal to Kovalev that the time on the clock is okay now, no need to continue letting it run down.
At 8:48 anybody noticed the fight at Left side of screen between the chess players....LOL...😂😅
Danya's commentary is amazing. High octane.
He can make a clock running down sound exciting. And he did.
High octane without being over the top. Not easy to do but Danya has just the right blend of energy, chess depth, and linguistic flair to make it work. I love watching these blitz commentaries!
GG
Coming late is a mind game. Puts pressure on the opponent
For lesser GM's it is. Magnus simply doesn't need all that time.
@@AageKush magnus is just saying that he doesnt care and is winning anyway
Time increment gets added to your current time to compensate for a probable delay (for humans is the reaction time and for servers may compensate for latency etc.). If you are fast enough to play your move before the increment ends, the extra time gets added to your current time thus augmenting your remaining time.
Shows instinct he has under pressure. He played the whole game in his head by the 2nd move haha phenomenal
Imagine almost winning by default just to lost in the end.
Carlsen thought: I can hit "snooze" one more time I only need 30 sec.
Hats off to the commentator, dude was vonstantly talking - even while he was just waiting for Magnus and nothing was happening
He intensionally doing this in most of the games
It's one thing for Daniel to delay his moves.... But it's next level when magnus adjusts his pieces already being late😂
6 months late, but it‘s Magnus trying to say that there‘s no need to stall and continue to play normally
Lord knows Magnus purposely shows up late to flex his skills.
They turned chess into an RTS. I love this bullet speed!
Magnus jogs like a true chess world champion
That's some great commentary in such a situation, what a champ 🏅
A GAME OF ANXIETY FOR REST OF THE LIFE
Love tidying up the board by Magnus, hilarious.
The class topper leaving the class 30 seconds after the exam starts

To be fair bomb diffuser units would arrive after explosion too. There could be multiple bombs, some that did not trigger.

Gm Naroditsky is such a good commentator! More of him please!
Looks like a sequence of steps from a psychological game against his opponent. Like purposefully acting in a strange manner, that works with this specific opponent, making him act sub optimally. Well played :)
Mushashi wants to know your location...
The thing is, if thats true, thats awfully unpleasant sportsmanship from Magnus.
His opponent repeatedly ran his clock down to try to equalize the difference, and showed that he was pleased to meet Magnus himself.
So, if Magnus is using dirty tactics, that's not okay.
Great commentry.. feels like a heavy weight championship match 😄
That's part of the strategy of Magnus.
The magnus engine rumbles
Love how he adjusts his pieces before hitting his timer. Dudes wild

It was a little nod towards his opponent to stop trying to equalise time, that he was okay with the time disadvantage.

It's a trick to feel bad the opponent
Básicamente Magnus le está dando una ventaja de 2:30 minutos a su rival y demuestra que aún así le puede ganar 😲
He should have come to the game in sunglasses to disrespect his opponent
I felt like I was listening to a championship boxing match!
The subtitles refer to Danya as “Nerdinsky.” It made me lol
And still has time for a handshake 🤣👍
Arriving late reminds me of the story of one of Musashi's duels.
He just like bullet more than blitz
Hmm
Me: Opponent thinking time is his time
Just down right disrespectful lol
Carelsen had in fact 110 seconds on his clock.
30+(80 sec for the 40 moves of the game).
I just went through all the comments (as you are doing now), and I am absolutely stunned at the extent of this "debate". The word that not one person has mentioned, but is *everything* to explain what happened is "Integrity". Chess is a gentleman's game, same as golf, billiards, etc. Naroditsky is a Grand mother f'ing Master- part of the elite. If you knew *anything* about being a true competitor, you'd understand that Naro told himself "no chance I'm getting an asterisk next to this win- I will try to win man to man- no advantages to either."
This is not opinion. This is one HUNDRED % what happened here.
It was very generous of Magnus to give his opponent such a huge time advantage.
Both were generous to each other.
This gave me anxiety and I don’t even play chess. Holy smokes can’t even imagine the pressure they are under.
Never let them make second move by not making the first move too early.
It is called the delay gambit
how does clock time work at chess. it was changing all the time, and wad adding time as well.
Crazy!!! His thinking and anticipation is miles ahead at sonic speed!
Naroditsky does a great job filling in time waiting for Magnus
I was low key expecting him to do his "adjusting pieces" shenanigans lol
Very impressive play by Magnus Carlsen with only 30 sec. left on his clock
Who wins ? Black or white ?
@@Bijuu007magnus won, but he only really won cause black was being a good sportsman and intentionally played slower to even out the time to have it fair

Does anyone know what match it was and what happened?
thats disrespectful and not a kind of good sportsmanship to let your opponent wait
and magnus did it more than one time its just a sign of not respecting his opponent
Salute to you Kovalev ❤💪
I love a game of Chess. I was a casual player 30 years ago about 1600ELO. I've just taken it back up again after 3 decades of total redundancy. I hate Blitz Chess, I prefer to play untimed games so that when I'm in a jam I can spend 10 minutes on the problem, which is for me ½ the fun o' playin!
I hate bullet too, i can't follow, but that's only because I'm a complete noob. I think high-level chess players like bullet because they're only using pattern recognition and less problem solving and planning for every eventuality.
Props to the commentator for making a game where nothing is happening as exciting as possible 😅
Doesn't matter how good he is, it's disrespectful to continually show up late.
shayad bhai ko autorickshaw nahi mila hoga 😂😂
Magnus is the best inspiration of my life......
Seems like poor sportsmanship arriving late to your match. Even if Magnus doesn't need the full 3 minutes to win, it's still an insult to arrive late
Is this the same guy that was featured in that game where the kid used two hands to make a move? If so, this guy is a walking chess meme already
The piece adjustment is so rad.

Yes he can do that due to his skill. No he shouldn't because you should show some respect towards your opponent.
