On their recent UK tour, each member of CKY sat down to discuss their ideas for the future of the band. Directed and Produced by Phil Bowman Digital Colorist Garry Maddison bloodyalliance ckyalliance.com
This is sad. And also very frustrating for people who want to play music but don't know any one to actually play with. These guys were lucky enough to basically grow up with each other but still can't get along? Honestly, their music was overshadowed by Bam and all his nonsense, but these guys really made some good shit. They need to all sit down, drop some acid and cry together or something..
You fucking nailed it dude no only is it hard to get people together, but the energy and momentum needed to achieve even a modicum of what these guys have, is already uphill battle. That's not the reason to play music you enjoy, but it's a hard reminder of "What the fuck is life?" lol.

Spectacular video piece! The most raw presentation of the guys I've ever seen. I'll take this over 20,000 cell phone videos of live shows any day of the week. One of the biggest draws to CKY has always been their personalities, and that's something that's been missing these past 7-8 years - the ability to connect with them as people. Everything's been random whispering behind other band members' backs (over Ask CKY) and second-hand accounts of fights or disagreements they had. THIS is what's up.
I was windowed out and heard it thinking it was Bam. Oh and I'm from the future, don't go to china in the 2019 or 2020. And buy stock in anything that sells hand sanitizer.
i hate to agree but chad is the only one that has the guts to face the painful truth here. i totally get jess and deron on how they are exhausted having to undertake a painful process of creating a record and then it turns out it is not worth it, or it does not turn out how they'd imagined it would. i think those guys, except chad, eventually had to go on separate ways and go experiment with stuff, i get it. we now have 96 bitter beings and cky both. and the preview of 96 bitter beings single 'slither away' sounds so promising which gets me excited. but honestly, in my heart i wish they had never had to go on separate ways, i would really be willing to hear some stuff like infiltrate.destroy.rebuild.
Because Chad doesn’t have to suffer thru the task of having to work with Chad. Deron was clearly sick of him, and wanted to leave. That’s his prerogative. Sucks that the band is no more, but can’t blame him.
Yeah, Chad ... the guy that didn't want to record a solo album and label it CKY ... who did exactly that when he squatted on the band name after Deron left. Super level headed
Correct. You can tell Deron's idea is more units = more sales, etc. Deron is amazing at songwriting but has a shit attitude in general if things aren't exactly as he wants, and Chad is amazing engineer but lackluster songwriter vocalist, etc. They need each other or neither is anything. Current Cky is just like Chad's solo shit which is ironic considering what he said at the start of this video. He's correct about everything else he says here, though. Chad and Jess were always very cool with me personally I've been lucky enough to hang after shows (even on the bus ONCE) several times! I grew up with Cky.
I can understand why they need this it's been almost 15 years!! they need variety, I like the idea, they do seem kinda irritated, but whatever, all that I know is they are AMAZINGLY talented and im a pround allience member ;) cky forever!!
It's so obvious in this video that Deron hated being in the band by this time. Or maybe he just hated his band mates? Also Jess seems pretty exhausted and bitter. Why does recording an album have to be like building a Rolls-Royce? Hasn't Chad had his own full studio for over a decade? And didn't he produce everything? So why the fuck was it so hard to record? Seems to me that they're making excuses for personal problems with each other. Anyway... looking forward to Chad's new project. I don't keep up with what Deron's doing anymore. R.I.P. CKY.
Because what chad always says is that he doesn't want to put out half-ass music. He wants every band member to have their head in the music. And I quote chad on this "I know what cky fans want to listen to and I won't put out any music if there is something missing"
Right, but I don't think Chad being a difficult producer or a perfectionist has anything to do with the problems hinted at in this video. Again, it shouldn't be so hard to make albums if you're in a band full of great musicians who can produce their own stuff. I think the real issues were all based in dumb personal shit and ego. Deron seemed to think he was the only person who should write songs for CKY, and he also seemed to be losing his ability/motivation to do so at this point. "There's no demand for that." he says about a new CKY album... Yet there's demand for 4 half-assed solo albums? ... Probably the most idiotic thing the guy ever said.
Valentin Allogeno the 4 individual album thing was just Deron’s idea to expose the limited ability of the other 3. He knows they weren’t capable. He was done carrying them.
Yes there is demand Deron! I love you guys, CKY is probably one of the best bands I've ever discovered, but we want new music because we know we'll love it. Don't let CKY become one of those bands that keeps on touring for another decade or two playing the same old songs over and over.
I don't know if another album would be right. When I look from the beginning right up to Carver City/B-sides and Rarities, they are all genius albums with some of the best music around in my opinion, and I think B-sides and Rarities is a good end to an awesome career of making such amazing and ground-breaking music. I would personally love to see solo work from Deron and Chad, and remember CKY as the awesome music right from Camp/Vol. 1, to IDR, up to B-sides and Rarities and everything between
Damn, man, this interview makes me feel so guilty for pirating their music back when I was like 13. I mean, they're saying "we hate making our product to have it stolen", so I personally contributed to a portion of their collapse lmao.
This is a few years old by now but it's still a pretty depressing set of interviews. It really hits home where things were turning at that point. Hopefully, the things I've read about a cKy mend are true. cKy alliance for life.
after making 'World Under Blood' Deron made it pretty clear he wanted to go in a new direction and CKY was not it ... I still love all those guys, just have to appreciate the 14+ years we have of them -- its been one hell of a ride !!!

Come on guys, support this band, I've looked upto them since I was a young, young lad myself. Support cKy. and Ryan Dunn, forever rest in Piece! Thumbs up for CKY to see we're behind them.
I get it. Its difficult continuing such a legacy in a positive direction. Its much more pressure and a heavier ball to push up a steeper hill than starting as a "nobody" with the freedom to expand. The friendships and brotherhood which seemed so close knit is being stretched or unravelled. Further, the earler sequel albums probably had a 'pink cloud' element which inevitably wore-off. Im someone who wrote to cKy asking them to get back together at all costs 2 years ago. Here, somehow I feel like the band heard all of us and is now sitting here in front of us because of their dedication to the cKy Alliance. They dont know what to do or how to do it. But they're answering the call. Its sad because it was never meant to get like this. Just wanna speak for myself but personally if this isn't the year to put back the pieces then I think it would be better if the band just kept trying to put the friendships back. Though As eager as my ears are, We can all be patient for the correct material rather than a forced poisoned piece done incorrectly. CC was well worth the long wait, and in deed it delivered, with nothing else left to be desired. A masterpiece and the perfect direction. "On Steroids". as Jess pergectly put it. Took the words out of my mouth. So, my thoughts to cKy as follows: i hope they tolerate each other with good intention and hope to do something someday if the right time comes. Keep an open ear and I guess just do unto each other ...you get the point. You'll know if/when the time comes. Glad to see this recent footage. Like seeing an old friend at a reunion.
Ryan M There's no way in hell they'll go back to being how they used to be. Honestly, Carver City bored me. Just sounds like cheesy death rock with the octave thing again. They really need to expand their sound. Either way, it doesn't matter. They won't get back together. Deron and Chad tried last year, and it failed so badly. Now this stupid ass talk about Deron talking about CKY without the other members, it's just sad. What's going to happen, he's going to just right more octave riffs with cheesy death metal lyrics again?
Tried not to make up my mind too quick about CC because it sounded shallow to me at first. Given enough listen I was able to see what they were going for and that he was passionate about creating the best as possible (he, the writer, deron). I have no problem with the direction it is headed, and we all know they do the octave thing but it doesn't make or break the band, its just their personal preference. Its accepted like overdrive or reverb. CC did expand in respect to synthesizer/electronic color up. I try to imagine the steps along building each song while mid listen and I gain respect for it, especially when I focus on changes and breaks in tempo. Fantastic
Ryan M It must be a personal thing. I just can't really dig Carver City that much. I liked how they tried to layer guitars more, and how there were guitar harmonies, but ultimately, I just couldn't dig the album too much. I think a lot of the lyrics turned me off the album, because most of it felt like a bunch of cheesy horror stories. It might be stupid, but lyrics give a subversive theme, and when it's stuff like, some angsty kid being violent in a skating contest, or an entire song dedicated to seeing a dead body, I just can't really dig it. A lot of the songs also were rehashes of old unofficially released songs. It's cool that they reworked it, but it gives the allusion they're running out of material to write. Another problem is this annoying shit with Deron writing music he can't play and sing live. Chad told him to not do that in the 2014 meetup and Deron got all pissed off about it, but he's right.
Ryan M I really do think Chad is a must have. I think he's essential, way more than Jess. Now, the problem with Chad is that he wanted to make cock rock at the end of CKY, that's the problem, but Chad definitely is a part of CKY to me. He's the one that made Disengage The Simulator the way it is. He does a lot of the leads, and is an excellent guitarist.
I misunderstood the idea of the four albums in the beginning, and I think that what I initially got could make everyone happy, haha. They can make that four EPs all together with each member of the band taking its creative direction, staying in the limits of what the other guys consider acceptable.
I saw them at the Roxy a few years back. A lot of the Jackass guys were there too. Phil and April got on stage, and everyone cheered. Awesome show, they filmed a video for one of the songs, but I don't remember which one
I get what you mean only to a very small extent. But it sounds like Deron was tired of being the main creative brain behind CKY, which he absolutely was.
say I wouldn't be interested in what they all come up with by themselves. This is my first impression of Matty and he seems like a really cool, level headed guy. I welcome him. I grew up with this band, I have always, always been so ecstatic when they announced a new album. Even if they don't continue, I just want them to do well, be recognized, because they fucking deserve it. (2/2)
3:20. So sad. This is the disillusion artists are faced with these days. I have made record with bands too, and they get downloaded and are seen as free work to the general public who don't realize how painstaking it is to make it. Seem's like the band became a bit heartbroken and then it all fell apart in the aftermath (Derron was an ass too)
@@DrMurdercock Yep- the endless mixing, the tone quest, the tendonitis, the technical breakdowns, the noise complaints, the poverty. And then people act like they're doing you a favor by listening to something you're giving them for free. And they have the gall to wonder why music sucks now- when only an idiot would make it under these circumstances.
CKY till i DIE. i just everyone back together and see a bad ass show just hearing the classics i dont need anything new we just want fuckin CKY! thats all
I dont care how they decide to do it!!! I just do not want them to get pissed at each other break up over bullshit! I think making an album together is the best way to stay strong
Hi, Phil. I would like to request permission to use video-only clips from this video, CKY in the UK July 2009, and the Deron Miller chronicles for a retrospective video on Carver City and beyond that I am currently writing and editing. Your videos will be credited and linked in the description of my video. Didn't know a better means of contacting you, so I figured this might work best.
I also agree with Chad. Maybe they should talk to Clutch, I know they're good friends with them. Clutch have been around since the early 90s and they still pump out albums and still have that love of being together and just jamming.
@rkisf90 cKy seems like a decent newspaper in the tabloid obsession going on now - it doesn't sell nearly as well, but when it's gone, it'll be remembered for having been one of the heroes of true music. Who they are and what they do, they might not ever become the Rolling Stones in sales or tickets sold, but they sure as hell deserve every inch of cred they form. The Alliance won't ignore them.
Most people on this board talk like they know these guys after watching this little 8 minute movie. Why not be satisfied with the awesome music they made? and quit bitching about 'aww man! Jess and Deron are BUZZKILLS....' They made music unlike any that I had heard before.
@Romagical I feel IDR was also the best, the first is good, but too "raw". IDR from VOL 1 is a huge differance, both good, but IDR has more work involved, I believe.
@metallica5252 fyi, Deron had lost his voice due to allergies, he mentioned it to me at that show. He couldn't even talk when he woke up that morning and he was really nervous about the show. His vocals are fine, given the way he sings. He's actually gotten a lot better in my opinion.
@corona7extra I think this was filmed shortly after Ryan died. I think he died whilst they where on tour, as one stop was Download festival around the 11th I think...
@jamesfmurphy I'm pretty sure 4 albums would cost more than one. I don't think anyone besides the CKY alliance (including myself) would purchase that anyway. They should tough it out and do another CKY album, not just for the fans, but for their sake as well.
the problem i have with cky is the different quality between the cd's and live-recordings.. i always listen to cky-bootlegs instead of the actual cd's, live-cky is much rawer and cleaner, i dont know why they mix so much sounds in their recordings during the making of an album...
I think CKY should try this. It would show the songwriting of all the memebers, but instead of being labeled CKY, it should be their own name. I think that they should do this, and maybe try to make a record after, because this would definetly be a intresting idea.
@playthewater Matty J doesn't have to be kicked out, from the way CKY is going. It they keep up the way it is now, the band will unfortunately break up, and Matty J will be another (4th) former bassist of the band
I understand both parties ideas and fully support them while understanding where each member is coming from. I don't feel that deron is being whimpy I feel that he feels that he shouldn't have to have the responsibility of creating the skeleton as he calls it of an album it truly can be very stressful while the others sit around and wait. Now I'm not saying that's what Chad and jess (I exclude Matty j due to him not being on any of the previous albums) does but it can really ware ya down when
@ 5:53-6:03 Hey Deron, welcome to Dave Mustaines life for the last 30+ years. The problem Cky could have, is the same problem PanterA ran into. Its hard to keep writing the same great song over and over. Great bands can do it, but its hard to do it for 20 years. I cant remember the last time Megadeth or Slayer has put out a decent song. And those are 2 of my favorite bands.I just heard Metallicas new album, it is really really good. And Ive been dogging those guys since the Black Album.
@MrMarkphillips132 yea man, it sucks i just hope they keep playing and do what they do..but Deron has been fucked up recently, when I saw him play here in LI his voice went and the singer/guitarist from my friends band got up on stage and helped Deron sing the rest of the set. It was cool but he's gotta take care of his voice more.
2011, record stores are crashing, mp3's, music sales down, CD's are dying!, download charts, CZcams, music on mobile phones the list goes on and on...If the band are reading this. " I just farted! "! nah I suggest 5 track EP's, but maybe each member on a track and live cover together/or video? you could release these anyhow and I'm dead certain for a physical copy I'd easily pay the same price for a ten track studio album! PS Nothing compares to Touring Live! The internet has been beat there
Deron is too worried about World Under Blood (which is going to bed amazing by the way) and Jess is to worried about The Company Band and his new band. I can understand that they don’t want to spend a year and make a record and have it stolen on the internet I. I think they should have a preorder and who ever preorders should get a copy of the album, so they aren’t over printing albums.
I Love this band. Always have. Its unlike any music out there, It is very well written and very well performed, all they need as a band is great P.R. look at all the shit acts making millions. Off of what? Some fat-ass in a booth writing lyrics, most acts don't write their material. this band does. I'm sorry CKY, the sheeple would rather listen to the same 25 songs played on the radio for a year straight, than open their ears and take in anything new. Hit the Studio One last Time, write your lives, the way you lived . Hard. ThM
@badassmckeving I'm pretty sure they tour'd and recently finished touring. Why would it take so long to upload this video? I'm sure this was filmed after one of their last gigs, hence all the noise in the background. Anyway, why do you care about these facts so much? support the band, not the satisfaction of feeling correct. I've not followed cKy for a long time, but I did a few years back. Some dates may be wrong, or whatever... support the damn band. Support cKy. Ryan Dunn... R.I.P.
And now Chad is putting out half assed butt rock under the CKY name while Deron is releasing amazing new cky songs in 96 Bitter Beings. I used to like Chad quite a bit back in the day, now not so much.
@MrMarkphillips132 i guess but that doesn't mean CKY isn't making money, i'm sure they all made millions..think of how much additional money they make for their songs being in video games too
cont. Letting people download your music freely is the best way to get your music out and promote yourself. If your music is truly good, people will buy your merchandise, tell friends about your band and go see you perform. Basically if you like what you download, then support it. Look at the band Nylithia, they are realeasing their album completely free. Its not the fault of the artist asking for money, or people sharing what they enjoy. The true underlying problem is the monetary system itself
Damn, I remember when all this was new and happening back in 2012.......I can't believe it's been 9 years already

Yo what gig is the inbetween footage from? Before I start looking for myself. Looks like Camden...
I saw them at the Roxy a few years back. A lot of the Jackass guys were there too. Phil and April got on stage, and everyone cheered. Awesome show, they filmed a video for one of the songs, but I don't remember which one
I got all the cky songs love them all i want them to make more cause they cant suck cause they are cky
#np ca plane pour moi -plastic bertrand! I love this song!
I just fucking love chad
I love Chads attitude. He seems to be the only member to really care about CKY.
I get what you mean only to a very small extent. But it sounds like Deron was tired of being the main creative brain behind CKY, which he absolutely was.
Let Deron & Jess work together on Something
And Matty & Chad on something else
See who comes out victorious!
new album pleaaassseee.......why not?
shit i would wait another 3 years for a new album!
Im hungry. I like this video!
And we all know how that went. Love me some Rock n Roll Alibis!
say I wouldn't be interested in what they all come up with by themselves. This is my first impression of Matty and he seems like a really cool, level headed guy. I welcome him. I grew up with this band, I have always, always been so ecstatic when they announced a new album. Even if they don't continue, I just want them to do well, be recognized, because they fucking deserve it. (2/2)
Great fucking video!!!
I hope you realize that CKY will never be the same even WITH Deron.
@XIceCubeKillerX Is it on there website or something??
Yeah, hopefully Chad succeeds in revitalizing them. They're confused and discouraged, and I can see why after all these years of difficulties.
I agree 100% with chad, He obviously wants to hold the band together
Keep doing music yo!! Dont stop!!!!!
12years later n ur stil a r3tard
@XIceCubeKillerX On there website or what?
new album pleaaassseee.......why not?
3:20.
So sad. This is the disillusion artists are faced with these days. I have made record with bands too, and they get downloaded and are seen as free work to the general public who don't realize how painstaking it is to make it.
Seem's like the band became a bit heartbroken and then it all fell apart in the aftermath (Derron was an ass too)
The hours jamming, the money on gear, the fights, the TIME.....people don't get it
@@DrMurdercock Yep- the endless mixing, the tone quest, the tendonitis, the technical breakdowns, the noise complaints, the poverty. And then people act like they're doing you a favor by listening to something you're giving them for free. And they have the gall to wonder why music sucks now- when only an idiot would make it under these circumstances.
CKY till i DIE. i just everyone back together and see a bad ass show just hearing the classics i dont need anything new we just want fuckin CKY! thats all
@HurricaneXR Couldn't agree more!
Cool
i like how they all wanna make their own but i would rather have them all together again proudicing a recrord.
I dont care how they decide to do it!!! I just do not want them to get pissed at each other break up over bullshit! I think making an album together is the best way to stay strong
I think they are touring Australia
Now
It’s important to remember that major record labels are far more guilty of ripping bands off than any file sharing fan is or ever will be.
They are the last remaining REAL 4 part band
I also agree with Chad.
Maybe they should talk to Clutch, I know they're good friends with them. Clutch have been around since the early 90s and they still pump out albums and still have that love of being together and just jamming.
a new album would rule a lot more.
The Alliance won't ignore them.
i want a new album. fuck
He's actually gotten a lot better in my opinion.
...have you heard Carver City??
Chad:"why would it suck if its us doing it?"
matty j being the man!
The manchild kiddydiddler yea
I love deron's guitar work, but he really does seem burnt out here I guess you can't blame him.
Besides Kings X- CKY is by far the most underappreciated band. They dont even seem to get recognition from other bands.
@CCdoesyermom oh wow i didn't know that. so you were there that's cool my fault for assuming.
the problem i have with cky is the different quality between the cd's and live-recordings..
i always listen to cky-bootlegs instead of the actual cd's,
live-cky is much rawer and cleaner, i dont know why they mix so much sounds in their recordings during the making of an album...
I think CKY should try this. It would show the songwriting of all the memebers, but instead of being labeled CKY, it should be their own name. I think that they should do this, and maybe try to make a record after, because this would definetly be a intresting idea.
In the end, the music industry is a tough business.
@C9Zazzle Seriously, if Deron hates doing this so much, then why is he in the band?
Is Chad wearing a George RR Martin hat?
@playthewater
Matty J doesn't have to be kicked out, from the way CKY is going.
Now I'm not saying that's what Chad and jess (I exclude Matty j due to him not being on any of the previous albums) does but it can really ware ya down when
fuck yea chad
Uhhhhhrrrrrr. This is going to take some time to digest.
Fuck yeah, Chad.
4:36 chad's not havin no bullshyttin around mayne
CKY, I love you. Please don't do something stupid.
@magicadd I'm pretty sure Jess seems stoked and agrees with Deron. Why is everyone attacking Deron?
I Love this band. Always have. Its unlike any music out there, It is very well written and very well performed, all they need as a band is great P.R. look at all the shit acts making millions. Off of what? Some fat-ass in a booth writing lyrics, most acts don't write their material. this band does. I'm sorry CKY, the sheeple would rather listen to the same 25 songs played on the radio for a year straight, than open their ears and take in anything new. Hit the Studio One last Time, write your lives, the way you lived . Hard. ThM
I hated Chad for that whole Afterworld video, but I'm totally with him on this one.. they are a band none of this individual shit
Chad, I see exactly where you're coming from!
I want a shirt that says "Chad Was Right"
Cool n u can go rock it at the next cKy show featuring him ,jess and a computer backing track ahah
@@deangelobayley7079 Someone's upset Deron Claus didn't deliver Synergy Restored for the 3rd Christmas in a row
@@mandog4251 bro i havent counted on hearing that release date ina while now
He is like an family dollar rob zombie.
And now Chad is putting out half assed butt rock under the CKY name while Deron is releasing amazing new cky songs in 96 Bitter Beings. I used to like Chad quite a bit back in the day, now not so much.
@MrMarkphillips132 i guess but that doesn't mean CKY isn't making money, i'm sure they all made millions..think of how much additional money they make for their songs being in video games too
@badassmckeving Nah dude i know, but i'd really like to see this happen
The true underlying problem is the monetary system itself
yo call up dico to sing for you chad or jess that would be sick, wooodoo
