Don't forget that Harry saved Ginny's life last year. The twins are grateful. That's one reason they gave Harry the map. Also, they generally tease "Ickle Ronny", their younger brother, whereas Harry is their friend and Quidditch teammate.
I love the relationship between Fred, George and Ginny in the books so much. She is a lot like them in how little she cares what people think about her and you know she admires them when she says that quote about knowing anything is possible when you grow up with Fred and George.
Snape is an excellent potioneer.
He made the Wolfbane potion for Lupin to help him during his transitioning.
When he took the potion to Lupin, Lupin wasn't there, but he had left the map open on the desk. Both Lupin and Snape could tell everyone was all there in the Shack.
The mapâs title Harry got from the twins gives a hint of his fatherâs close friendship when they were students. Moony is Professor Lupin, Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew, Padfoot is Serius Black, and Prongs is Harryâs father James.
One of my problems with this adaptation is that they completely cut that entire story, but it's too important to just gloss over. The identities and relationships of the marauders is a significant part of the book, and they just axed it. This movie suffers for its attempt to shave the running time down, and as a result, the big reveal doesn't play as well. They found time for the ridiculous and awful Knight Bus scene, but they couldn't take five minutes to lay out the relationship between the marauders and the significance of the Shrieking Shack and Womping Willow to them?
Feel like when Chris Columbus left, thatâs when they started changing too much stuff. Was a great movie, as are all of them, but this is where they really started deviating from the story
@@jawbone78 thank you. I thought I was the only one who didn't like the bus scene. I think they over corrected a bit too much with this movie, the David Yates (I believe movie 4-8) movies keep the dark, but dial back the "unique" additions that this director felt he needed to add.
@@connorp8408 I feel that of all the scenes in the entire movie franchise, the Knight Bus is the most cringe, unnecessary, garbage filler scene of them all. Which would be fine, if there weren't sooo many great things cut from the movies to shorten the time while this was left in đ

Yes, Pettigrew cut his finger off to frame Sirius so that people would think Sirius was the one who betrayed Lily and James. Pettigrew is the one who gave away Lily and Jamesâ hiding spot. He led Voldemort to them. Ultimate betrayal to his life long friends. He is a rat in every sense of the word !
32:10 This is explained in the book. When Lupin saw Harry and the crew on the map going to the shrieking shack, he left the map open on his table and rushed after them. And when Snape came to his office to bring Lupin his wolfsbane potion, he saw the map open on the table and that Lupin was going to the shrieking shack
This could have been a two second line added to the movie, but instead we get the shrunken Jamaican head... smh.
@@connorp8408 Fr and in Half blood prince we could've had great flashbacks from Voldemort's past which was the main point of the book. But instead we got a teenage romcom.
Itâs heartwarming each time I remember that Harryâs dad (James), plus the friend group, would change into animals to keep Lupin company during full moons
The dementors kiss is where they suck your soul out of your body. They feed on your fears and traumas. Ron said in the beginning he felt as though he'd never be cheerful again. Which is why the chocolate helps. It releases chemicals in the brain that mimics love
The part where sirius asks harry to live with him is my favorite because it's an opportunity for harry to actually have a family member that loves him and he doesn't have to live with the dursley's

18:13 Harry is not related to the heir of Slytherin though. Voldemort is. But Harry shares some of Voldemort's traits like speaking to snakes, that's why people thought he was the heir but he's not.
Voldemort was related to slytherin through his mothers side ( the Gaunts) Voldemort IS the Heir of Slytherin, not related to the heir of Slytherin.

The last part of your comment is incorrect, Harry and Voldemort are VERY distantly related. Very distant cousins due to their links to the Peverell brothers.
I personally dont think going completley against the character, screaming, not understanding what the character is about is "raising the bar"
Harry has no relations to the slytherins. In the second movie Harry was made to look as if he could be the heir to slytherin but it was revealed by Tom Riddle himself that it wasn't Harry but, rather, Tom Riddle himself.
Sirus WAS in charge of the location of Harry's parents, BUTTTTTT he had the Potter's switch to Peter without telling anybody. Peter went to Voldemort, Voldemort did his thing, Sirus and Hagrid arrived at Potter house, Hagrid leaves with Harry, Peter arrives and frames Sirus. Movies 1 and 3
The crazy teacher said basically "the one who betrayed his friends (Peter) will be free and return to Vold"
I think Richard Harris was perfect for Dumbledore in the first two movies, but Michael Gambon is perfert for Dumbledore for the rest of them. I can't picture him playing him for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. You'll see and understand why later.
I wish you paused the movie when you talk at length because you're talking over dialouge that might be important.
My thoughts exactly! Richard Harris was perfect for the more "kiddish" movies, because to me he had this sort of Santa like quality to him. But as the movies get darker and more intense, and also the more Dumbledore starts to be in the movies more and more of an integral part to the story, Michael Gambon is perfect. He really feels intimidating like he's supposed to, because he is supposed to be one of the most powerful wizards in the world.
I dont think someone who despised the book, the character and went completely off rail like screaming at Harry instead of helping is the best fit. And I am no book purist
@@Joelyne37 Meh Gambon just went the other extreme with it. Dumbledore is SUPPOSED to be santa like and only showing his true form in extreme circumstances. He likes being in the shadow manupulating everything.
The whole point about Dumbledore is that he is one of the most powerful beings but wants to just teach and be unassuming. Basically the opposite of Voldermort who always seeked power and wanted to show off his power and position by intidimation

@@harish123az him screaming at Harry in goblet of fire most likely wasnât Gambons fault. Most likely the writer and director. A lot about goblet of fire is off from the book. I think he does great the rest of the time. And if u donât think so, thatâs fine. U donât have to agree with me. But I personally like him better for the later movies than Richard Harris.
@@Joelyne37 The only reason I put it on him is that he has openly stated in multiple interviews that he never read the books and never went with the directions but acted the way he felt was correct for the character. He doesnt even have a basic understanding of the character and it was deliberate on his part
Lupin was a great friend of James and Lily.
This was honestly my second favorite book (Order of the Phoenix was my personal favorite) but I was so sad they didn't get into the lore of the Marauder's Map. It's a huge part of the story.
So Snape has been making the Wolfsbane potion for Lupin which allows him to be aware and in control while he is transformed. Lupin saw them go into the secret tunnel and ran after them forgetting to blank the map so when Snape brought him his potion he saw the map and Lupin taking the secret tunnel and went after him because he knew about the tunnel from his time as a student.

33:25 - this is a change from the book, where Buckbeak is not involved in this scene. In my opinion, it is one of the very best changes made by the films: that Buckbeak should be the one to save them, thus discharging his own debt to them for saving him, is really, really clever, and entirely natural.
You missed what Vernon's sister said about Harry's mom that made him so angry. Lol
Black sent the broom..in the book he used the cat (Crookshanks) to take the order to the owl post for him because he couldnât be seen due to him being on the run but in the movie the feather was from buckbeak that is currently with Sirius..
Harry is one of the only people who can tell Fred and George apart, and he treats them as individuals not as just one person. Their own family can't even be bothered to tell them apart. That's why they chose to give the map to Harry in my opinion.
I have to say that only someone who's never been close to a set of twins would write it into a story that their family can't tell them apart.

James and Sirius were Äşike brothers and along with Lupin and Pettigrew they were the best of friends, the Marauders who created the map. The other 3 also learned to be Animagus so they could keep Lupin company as animals. Kind of bummed they left it out of the movie
Whatâs up Major đ this was my favorite book. They left a lot out of the movie but itâs still one of my favorite movies as well. This is a turning point for the decent into darker movies. Canât wait for the rest of your reactions to Harry Potter.

@Raider Max on a re-read it may change. I havenât read the books since they first came out and I believe I was only 13-14 when I read prisoner. I have to go back and read them all again and see if I still feel the same way.
In the books, they explained that most British wizards are all related to some extent due to it being such a small, tight knit community. For example, Draco Malfoy and the Weasley siblings are third cousins and Sirius Black is also Malfoyâs mothers first cousin.
Me here complaining again... xD Nah, not any big critizism, just pointing out one thing. If you want to comment on the movie with more than a few words, it's a good idea to pause it. At the beginning, when you were talking as aunt Marge was ranting, you kind of ended up missing what actually got Harry that upset... As well as why it zoomed on Harry's parents at the end of the scene. These little bits can really affect how you experience the movie as a whole. For example, now you found the scene only funny and heartwarming, rather than heartwrenching. Anyway, it's not like you did that a lot during this reaction. For example in the scene with Lupin and Harry on the bridge, you paused it. Enjoying your reaction overall!
My man survived the Battle of Winterfell and has returned unscathed! Nice! Like you said, I feel like the movies only get better and better as you get further into them. This movie, in my opinion, sort of closes the chapter on the younger years and opens the door for a more mature audience. The tones/themes of the story have evolved a bit from the first two, and the story begins to get darker (you will love this Dumbledore...give it time). Now you will see the movies start to delve further and further into older teenage/adult material. The Goblet of Fire (next level) is my personal favorite, yet each installment adds something wonderful to the climactic story arc. You're going to love the Goblet of Fire, Major! So many new characters, plot twists, and world cup quidditch!!!?!?!
Dude, nothing freaking happened in the battle of winterfell. All good guys were fine, it was a fairy tale ending. You are talking as it was like Baelor or red wedding or mmountain and the viper, when it was one of the most anti climatic episodes ever
He also survived the battle of Windhelm and the Stormcloak defense.

Same here, I didnât watch til I was an adult. Read the books to my blind daughter throughout early 2000âs. Iâm so glad I read the books and watched the movies. This series is one of the best of all time

Major! They Actor who plays Sirius Black is The Greatest actor of ALL time in my opinion. I really hope you watch more of his movies. His most mainstream roles are Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight Trilogy, Dracula in Bram's stoker's "Dracula", The Evil cop in "Leon: the Professional", Drexyl In "True Romance" and Zorg in "the fifth element" . His Oscar nominations are worth watching especially "Tinker tailor soldier spy" and "darkest hour". Dude has RANGE. Stay safe bro!

Yes, actually. Pam Ferris played both Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda and Aunt Marge in Prisoner of Azkaban.
And Sister Evangaline in "Call the Midwife".... and all three of these characters have similar personality traits.... lol
The dementors feed on someone's misery. So what they do is essentially drain you of your happiness and leave you with your worst memories. What you saw them do to Sirius at the end (or try to) is what they call the Dementors kiss. Which is literally sucking out your soul. Leaving you alive in a permanent catatonic state.
Snape saw the map in Lupin's office - Lupin didnt clear it out before leaving. Snape was bringing Lupin his anti-wearwolf potion. Or, he was just suspicious of Lupin the whole time

It's not said in the movies much, but Dumbledore despises the Dementors. He knows they will go right back to Voldemort's side if he ever was to return. They are at Hogwarts on The Ministry's orders. The Ministry of Magic and Dumbledore don't see eye to eye on the dark side. You will find out about that later on. Haha
The scene in the shrieking shack is one of my favorites of the whole series! The acting, the reveal đ just brilliant!

I wish they wouldâve kept in more of the screaming shack dialogue from the book, since it sets up so many character motivations for the next few movies. Itâs really the only time I really wish the movie had stayed faithful to the book.

In the book all 3 of them cast the Expelliarmus spell at the same time - that's what really knocked out Snape - that should of been in the movie too

Lupin, James, Sirus and Peter wrote the map. Lupin was Mooney. Wormtail was Peter. Prongs was James and Padfoot was Sirus. The movie glosses over the fact that Lupin and friends made the map. That's how Lupin knows how it works when he took it from Harry. Lupin was a werewolf, Sirus was the dog, James was a stag and Peter was the rat aka Scabbers.
The Twins are my absolute favorite characters in all of HP. The movies don't say it, but Harry is the one who gave them the money to open their shop in the 6th book/movie. That's why they give him free stuff any time he comes in.
Yeah, another major reaction! Hermioneâs name was so hard for fans, that in the 4th book, JKR had a scene where she explains how to say her name to another characterâŚbut it was really so the fans would know!
You are rightâŚHarry should not have been doing magic at home. In the books he used a regular flashlight to read under the covers. The movie went for cool effects, but yeahâŚthat was against the rules!
Richard Harris was a great Dumbledore, and IMO, Michael Gambon took the reins and did a great job.
âRemusâ is a character of Roman mythology, who was raised by wolvesâŚand âLupinâ refers to wolf in the root of the word. The scientific name for wolf is Canus Lupus. Lupine means wolffish.
If the time-turned Harry or Hermione were seen by Ron or Harry, they would have fought them, thinking they were someone posing as themâŚI think both Hermiones would know, thoughâŚI donât think sheâd go mad.
FYI you can only use time turners to back a few hours⌠more than that has catastrophic resultsâŚmadness or death, according to original series canon (ie: the 7 books/8 movies)

Note: One of the kids Harry hit with snowballs in the Malfoy taunting scene was in the opening scene of Game of Thrones.
Also, this is the book/movie that first broke the âGryffindors are good, Slytherin is badâ bias. Pettigrew was in Gryffindor along with Remus, Sirius and Harryâs dad.
Thereâs a few actors that are in both. Some are obvious (Filch, Slughorn, etc.) Some are harder to spot. Mance Rayder, Dagmar Cleftjaw, even Pycelle.
Side note: the actor who plays Eddie in season 4 of Stranger Things is one of the guards who tries to turn Arya away from Winterfell in season 7.

Lupin is my favorite character in the franchise. Sirius gave him the Firebolt broomstick. Sirius, Lupin, James and Peter Pettigrew were "Messers Mooney (Lupin), Wormtail (Pettigrew(, Padfoot (Sirius) and Prongs (James)" were the original makers of the Marauder's Map.
If youâll notice the color of the movie changed, not bright and golden but more desaturated and gray, more somber. It gets darker from here. If you paid attention the WB logo at the start of the film is in silver not gold. The books and this one especially is my favorite.

My grandmother grew up with Richard Harris. Or, as she still calls him, 'little Dicky Harris'. Unfortunately she used to bully him, but he grew to be SUCH a character haha

There is tons of animated lore (like Game of Thrones) you can find on CZcams that explains a lot of the characters backstories. It helped me since I didn't read the books before watching the movies.
Professor Lupin's story is incredibly sad
This franchise is made for you. Do your best not to take too much time off between because it is better to have the story fresh in your mind.

Also, I love how Hagrid was exonerated in the last film so now he can be a professor at Hogwarts and the perfect class for him to teach, Care of Magical Creatures! đ

I love seeing someone so enthralled and so ecstatic in the BEGINNING OF NUMBER 3! It's usually around the end of 3 as things conclude where most people fall in love, to see you this excited in the beginning shows true passion for the series.

I highly recommend reading the book even after watching the movies. The book are even better then the movies. They change alot of things and leave stuff out the movies.
Dude with Malfoy at the shrieking shack was beheaded by Ned Stark as a deserter of the Nights Watch in the first episode of GOT.
Richard Harris was a great Dumbledore for the first two films because he portrayed the character with that old, soft, quiet, wizened, almost Merlin type of nature. I personally prefer Michael Gambon because (as you will see in the remaining films) there are moments when Dumbledore needs to have much more energy and bite. Dumbledore is the most powerful wizard in the world so even in his old age he is able to kick serious ass, and I doubt Harris with his declining health would have been able to have that level of energy. As Gambon said in an interview, heâs the headmaster of a school and you should kind of be a little afraid of your headmaster. So if you donât like him now I expect heâll grow on you.
Also, the dementors are basically the living (?) embodiment of depression, so they are sucking and forcibly ripping the happiness and life energy out of their victims. If the dementors kiss you they suck out your soul, which doesnât kill you but leaves you a permanently emotionless husk, like the way severe depression does.

I'm pumped to see the Goblet of fire episode. It's one of my favorites and should bring the excitement to a whole new level.
This is most people's favorite book/movie of the series. The movie cuts a lot out due to runtime and having to adapt the entire book in under 3 hours, but it's still an amazing movie. And it's the movie in the series that starts us down an even darker path than the first two which had dark moments, but nothing like this. The feel, the aesthetics, the atmosphere, the look of everything. It really looks grim compared to the first 2, no pun intended.
23:53 Yeah, eventhough these films are good in their own right, as adaptations of a book series, they're middling at best.
Case in point Ron was utterly butchered by them. For example the scene where Snape calls Herminone an insufferable know-it-all, and Ron agrees with him? In the novel, eventhough the narration notes that he calls Hermione a know-it-all on a weekly basis, he immediately comes to her defense with "You asked a question, that she knows the answer to. Why ask, if you don't want to be told?", and gets detention for it.
And the scene where he bitches and whines about the dogbite, while Hermione stands between Harry and Sirious, and declares that Sirius will have to kill them before he gets to Harry? Well in the novel, it was Ron who made that declaration, while standing on a *broken ankle* .
32:16 Again, adaptational flaw. In the book it's explained that Snape brews a potion for Lupin that if he takes everyday on the week of a night with a full moon, he can keep his sanity even after transforming into his wolf form. Lupin got so agitated when he saw both Sirius and Pettigrew on the map, he forgot to turn it off (which the twins warned Harry to always do), so when Snape brought over his daily dose of the potion, he found the map just in time to see Lupin run over the tunnel.

Dementors are basically able to suck the joy out of everyone around them. The reason why Azkaban is such a terrible place is because the prison is full of them. When a Dementor attacks someone directly, they can perform the Dementorâs kiss, where they literally suck the soul out of someone, leaving them still alive but devoid of their spirit (essentially living as a vegetable).

Yeah, the original Dumbledore already had cancer when he was cast for the role. He was more or less retired from acting, but he ended up taking the role for his grandchildren who were big harry Potter fans. Kind of a... permanent bedtime story sort of thing, a grandfather's last loving gift for his grandkids.
Prisoner of Azkaban (3) and The Half-Blood Prince (6), I always thought of these were the best 2 of the series.
