Do another test on the Amazon sub, and take it 250 to 300 watts over RMS like you did with the sundown and see what the outcome is . Just curious to see if it could handle the same RMS overage like was done to the sundown. Good videos my friend!

He didn't cause the subs where basically the same and i would also think that a brand that usually rates subs for 2krms and they work fine at over 3k would be able to handle a bit more
Yeah, I don't believe all Sundown subs are made to handle over RMS, they do that for their higher level subs only.
@@kamilrybicki8490 how are they basically the same when one is rated 300 RMS more than the other? Low end sundown subs are not like the higher end sundown subs that can handle over double the RMS. I still would like to see the Amazon sub run through the same test over 250,300 RMS.
The Amazon sub was louder at 142.4 compared to the Sundown at 142.2

Possibly, you are used to dealing with teenagers, which is no crime, but you assume that I have a dog in this race, so to speak. I personally have very expensive gear that I really enjoy and budget gear that I really enjoy as well. I have absolutely no brand loyalty, as I have found over many years that most brands can have good gear and bad gear. A bit of advice to you. Don't assume that people who you are encountering today are the same in their thoughts and perspectives as people who you have previously encountered. This might lead to an incorrect view of that individual. Good luck, and enjoy whatever gear you have.
The ZVX line of Skar isn't even close to the Nightshade. Remember guys, you get what you pay for. Not knocking Skar. I've owned 4 15" EVLs and 2 ZVX 18"s (or whichever was their "top of the line") For the price it's a banger (see what I did there?). I'll still take the Nightshade even though it's 3x the price. Skars customer service BLOWS.

Your videos are awesome, specially when you do budget tests, I recently installed a mono sub in my ram truck and was excited once I heard the bass hit.
I would love for you to test out some Savard subs! They have 3 different lines of subwoofers. The Rap, HiQ, and the newest SPL focused one(I can’t remember the name). I’ve owned the HiQ line and have been VERY impressed with it.

When sundown first stard out, there prices were extremely cheap you could get a sa 12" for 160. As they become more popular, the prices have also going up
To be fair they've also r&d and made 3 or 4 revisions to their subs

sometimes those cheaper subs can take alot of power and be very hard to blow, but the sundown's can sometimes be junk or sometimes be really good subs it just depends on witch one you get. I think skar have the best budget subs. Also great video
I realy like ct sounds there subs are cheap like u can get a 12" 1300w rms sub for only 160-180 usd and so are there amps u can get a 1.5k rms amp for like 180usd. I like amp cause when the voltage drops the power doesnt that much it basically stays the same

It seems often times BIG companies that are $$$ overcharge for their low level
lines.
Might be even a sub with their name stamped on it and someone else's borrowed design/parts/build house, and sold for more $$ because they took off brand X name and possibly replaced with Sundown in this case.
I am actually really surprised how well the SKAR SVR 12INCH Subwoofer performs. That is a $130-$150 sub that's rated 800-watt rms. And I most definitely give it at least that. It is powered with a 1500-watt rms mono amp.
I used to buy Rockford Fosgate products. They are still really great and all. For sure, the win goes to SKAR if you're looking at bang for the buck in my book!!
I have two kicker CompC 10s and was thinking about swapping them out for the SVR 10s. Is the SVR line any good?
@gelatoconnoisseur5389 I believe that they are great for the value. But keeping in mind what Parker does is something the average bass head doesn't do. This means overpowering the subs for the views.
If you keep the power level within its recommended specs, then perfect 👌 👍 even for a 10 inch. I have mine in a 2008 acura mdx.
@@danelhouseofel7634 the amp I have now is the Rockville Db14 with 1000 rms and 3000w peek. So technically I think I would be under powering them being that the SVR 10s push 800 rms each which would be 1600 in total. Do you think that would be a problem?

Since you are back to testing in the Sequoia; I wouldn't mind seeing some db tests of subs you tested in your truck. If you still have some those subs laying around. Cabin gain test for different vehicles basically. Good video to see what those subs can handle

The reason it died is during the 45 and 40hz burp it was bottoming out and damaged the coil .
He need to run that back.

Awesome vid man! I like to see the budget subs get a win. Personally I've never heard either of them. Did one sound overall better than the other? Obviously sound is a bit subjective an you probably have those that say the test wasnt fair somehow for the sundown sub, but id consider the budget sub the clear winner for price an passing the test.

best reason for me to go with sundown is that they keep drop-in recone kits available. just makes the whole process of "yup, I knew that was stupid" easier.
after I murdered my sundown ev3's I reconed one and put it in my yukon. still need to fix the other one.
I'm currently abusing some dayton max-x 12's in a impala. I grabbed them for just under $130 shipped each a while back leveraging a sale and a coupon on parts express.

Not really. It's thier lowest budget sub and he ran it at 300 watts more than rated so was it really a fair comparison? Sure sundown under rates most of thier subs. The e series isn't one of them.

Comparing price point doesn't really make sense when you really think about it, rated power always should be considered.. In fact, it might have made the generic Amazon sub look even better if it could have kept up or even beat the SA series.

Hello Parker. Ive been wanting to see a video comparison that nobody else seems to have done. Would you consider doing a comparison between two 12's in a sealed box on 1000 watts vrs one 12 in a ported box on 500 watts rms? Same subs for both enclosures. Im curious as to how much of a difference there will be in output. The ported is more efficient but the sealed has twice the cone area and power. I cant find anyone thats done a video like that.

I got the stu 1546 for a similar reason and am running mine on a jp23 1.5 and it is giving it all the power it wants? Sub calls for a 3.53 box and I am running 3.85 so that could have something to do with it idk.
Yeah sounds like somethings off ...my jp23v1.5 has more power than my American bass xr 12 even wants try and handle .......I don't think you need more power or a larger amp ...may be a electrical issue ....but to each his own if you want a larger amp ....I say go for it but just make sure you have the electrical upgrades to make it work ....or you probably won't see any gains in power out put
how many cuft is your box? i was wanting to run a single zv6 or try get two avatars cause they would take less space each.the single zv6 box will take most my trunk lol

You pay a little more for the sundown for a reason like if you blew the sub you can call them up and get a replacement recone or get the sub replaced if it's a defective sub definitely not going to get that with the Amazon sub
If you're cooking coils, that is on you, and that's user error. Nobody will warranty that issue.
Amazon offers protection plans for like 10-12 bucks for 2 years if you blow it you get your money back 🤷

Nice, its pretty cool to see a budget sub hanging in there. But if you're gonna feed the sundown 300rms more than rated. Why not feed the budget sub 300rms. Above rated and see how long it lasts.

U gotta review the massive audio hippo xl 12 3000watt rms, it’s what I have in my car and for a a single 12 it’s crazy
Parker. You really should roll into the burp much slower, this will allow a more accurate score plus avoid over excursion &/or bottoming out so aggressively, hence the more accurate score. Another thing to take into account is that if you get too much distortion or bottom the sub out when using those SPL Labs meters they will usually read inaccurate & you will find that the measured HZ is wrong which is an easy way to see if the meter measured correctly.
Me setting here with 2 sa12s I’ve been feeding double the rated power for 5 years daily and there still going 😂

Yo Parker big fan I have JL Audio JX 1000.1D. I had this little guy with 1300 RMS 2609 orion old school, it blew it. Then 2X AMERICAN BASS 15s blew those any way to see the limit of this Amp. Not a JL Audio fan but when I got this amp it was affordable. Had the amp for Six years now doing a new set up. 2008 Impala LT.
Why didn’t you go 300 plus watts on the Amazon sub like you did the sundown sub?
Man i been truing for 6 months decide what 2 dual 4 12s to get for my new custom box build ...currently run 1 dual 2 american bass xr 12 ....and it probably would have been a great sub ...but had some issues from day i got it with what i think was a bad and or weak coil f4om factory ....beside the point ....i really cant make my mind up was going to go with 2 12 in sa classics but idk like the resilient sound golds too ....even thought about toro ....wanted try def bonce but they dont offer a dual 4 with a 1000 or more rms ....

Go with a Taramps smart line and save a ton of money. I will never pay $2,000 for an amp again. My Smart 8 is crushing all my other expensive amps and sounds better.
From my experience with the sundown sa-10s, i can say that 1 soundqubed hds3 12 outplayed the 10s in a 3.5cu box tuned at 32hz. The whole reason i swapped them out was because my surround finally ripped on one of the 10's and i had been reading about Soundqubed and watching how many of their products were hitting 160+ in the lanes... Parker, if you ever have time, can you review the Hdc3 and hdc4? I think they replaced the c with x, but nonetheless i want to say i read in the past that they were a sister company to DD audio, but sourced somewhere else later??

The hdc3's are pretty nasty. One of my 12s was a db louder than the dc xl15 it replaced
Really enjoyed an E15v2 I ran years ago on a 500/1. Had it in a 4.5 net @ 32 Hz enclosure. It impressed everyone that heard it. Couple years ago I made my son a home audio set up for his room, went with the E15v4. Pretty impressive with what you get for the money. Have always felt the E series are a solid choice for someone on a budget.

Did I see a price of $220 for that E-series 15"? WOW, I remember paying less than that for the SA-series (12"s) when I bought 'em.
(granted, that was a long time ago, and they were 12"s, not 15"s, and I got 'em the one and only time I've ever seen 'em go on sale.)
There's nothing wrong with cheap subs, so long as they perform well.
I rocked a pair of SKAR SDR-10's for years and for $90/a copy they don't owe me anything. Especially 'cause they still work fine. I only took 'em out 'cause I upgraded to a single U-18.
Very nice battle, the cheap sub defeated the Sundown. It's hard to justify the extra money in this case, but if your into numbers the Sundown did win. So for average everyday bangers the cheap sub is a decent value. Great video and keep up the good content💯👍

Only sundown i have owned is SA15,U15, X15 , X18, Z18 and they have take so much abuse.
I would not go the cheap subs on sundown, then its better to find a other brand and tryout.
Now im thinking on a X10, with aeroport 30hz boxtuning for daily. 40-50hz when SPL testing it.
Would be fun to see.
Now i run 1x15 Gas max s1 d2, doing 144.55db in a stock car w/sunroof, stock battery on 1000-1500w.

For the price point, I've always felt Sundown is overrated. If I was gonna "waste" money on expensive car audio, it would be on JL Audio.
i have 3 jl 8w6 and 1 jl 18w6. best subs i've owned besides the rf hx2 12s i have.
Sundown and JL are not comparable. One brand is dedicated to spl and the other sq.
@@groundshakersociety6637 yes they are. the Sundown Audio E15 v.4 has the same wattage as my jl 18 w6. the Sundown Audio E15 v.4 shown in this video has a reinforced paper cone...........paper cones are used for sound quality. the Sundown Audio E15 v.4 blowing at 800 watts of power is not spl hahahahahaha. can't fix ignorant people. jl audio is daily driver and sound quality.

You should put American Bass 12 XMAXXXXX MONSTER verse the American Bass Godfather 12 and see which one is better and hook it to a taramps big boss 3 and have it hooked to 1ohm at 3000rms in a 2 .75 cubic feet box please and thank you if you do this
All I'll run is Sundown. I got 6 Zv5 18's in a daily doing well over 160db with no failures in over 4 years. Once you get up to the U series they're hard to beat.

Add some weight on that dust cap then add a bigger cap on top of it. More weight will lower the fs
Or, just purchase a sub with a lower fs if that's what you're going for.
If you want power and abuse. Get flat wound aluminum wound voice coils. PSI subs are way better than SunDown will ever be ( unless you get the nightshade Neo mag. )
Redo the NVC VCW sub now that you have proper power, last tiem you tyested it you only had 3k and the sub was wired to 2 ohms

For most people it’s best to get the best of both worlds and get a good, cheap sub from a company like skar audio
Sundown might have name brand and resale. They definitly have a website and support.

DTX has a E Hybrid for $120 and a SA Hybrid for $190. You can find Sundown cheaper if you know where to look.

The e series is bottom of the line Budget from sundown but i get the reasoning for the comparison cause its both similar price points but being a advid sundown person ill tell you if you don't have them in good enclosure they won't last long at all cause the design in their efficiency is also a flaw in some cases in example they hate being free aired and hate being in out of spec boxes or the won't get the right cooling Dave Leib the builder at sundown would know more than me about it but generally speaking if your aren't using a 100% perfect application for them youre most likely to see failure

I have 4 evls in my truck and bought the 3500 max wlldse sub at 8k watts ill smoke the skars befor that thang even cares. Once they all blow ill be sticking with them.
Sun Down audio is not a small company however they are really pricey car audio Stetsom and Taramps is the they comp level to compare to.
