- Windows fogging up with defrost on? Strong smell of antifreeze through the vents? Wet passenger floor board? I hate to break it to you, but you gotta bad heater core...
This is my attempt at removing the dash, with more detail than any other CZcams video i found. I'm sure this is gonna be a chore, so watch for periodic updates
LoL the best part of your vid was when you said "The fewer bolts and screws you have to take out the fewer you'll have left over when you're done".
😜
My favorite was ‘tabs about 2 knuckles deep in the hole ‘
I have learned to screw any attachment back to where it was removed until re-assembly is underway
I had about 8 screws left over LOL
You always have extras. Lol
Very good videos!!!! Thank you!!! It took me and my husband 4 hours total removal and reinstall.
glad i could help.... from start (pulling out my tool boxes) to finish (washing my hands) it took me 12 hrs.
Great video. Thanks for the detailed disassembly. That's a pretty extensive teardown! My 01 GMC pickup isn't leaking but not blowing heat very well hopefully a flush will do the trick .
Thanks for making this video , this is going to help me fix an annoying rattle I have inside my dash. I'll buy you some beer sometime.
Johnylogic16 no problem! i love Coor's Light, but Boulevard is always good.
what side of the dash is it coming from? it might be something that just rolled to the front and got underneath the dash cover.
Lucas Bradshaw I can't tell exactly where but I know for a fact it's coming from the inside of the dash. It starts to rattle after I hit a bump while driving at moderate speeds. It's driving me crazy .
Johnylogic16 pm
great video tho' as usual ...thank you for showing all the details for people like me
my pleasure
Dad and I are currently in the process of this job.....fml
We got it completely stripped down and are putting stuff together... well trying
One piece of advice, don’t todo this just go to a mechanic😂
tried to warn you
Made me chuckle when you said you are in Kansas. I live there too and just had mine go out on my 02 2500hd. Fill it up and it leaks like a faucet from the ac drip line, luckily not into the cab. Smells great in the cab vents 😂
Nice Video. I like how detailed you are in explaining the steps you take. I am just curious though, wouldn't it have been easier to remove just the a/c suitcase from under the rh of the dash and access that bar from underneath, or would that be harder?
1st and most important thing u missed buddy, take ur battery terminals off cos I can accidentally deploy ur air bag!!!
even as an avionics technician, i forget to do that all the time lol
Great video. Thanks for talking me out of trying to do this myself.
And he was all ( THHAT BOLT OVER THERRRE...) that part tripped me out!! Lmao
I'm here to entertain lol
Sir I fucked my truck up listening to you maniac !!!!!
Does the heater core run the cold ac to? Cause my fluid leakes and ac runs out and leaks on my carpet to
How long did it take you to replace it ? Any special tools. You had to buy to do the job?
How has your Heater Core held up since you installed it if you still have it?
thanks BRO...very good 👍 quality video 📹 and perfect details 👌
I gotta do this for my truck before it gets cold here in Florida not looking forward to the job but great video thanks alot
Very cool and lengthy video. But for future reference, use K-seal copper liquid. Chevy heater core leaks all the time. Bad designed with just rubber O-ring it leak just by messing around with in/outlet hose inside engine bay. Half bottle of K seal will fix it forever and also help prevent head gasket failures.
Where do you poor the k seal cooper in at
This was the closet thing to my 2004 chevy suburban it definetly helped some but doing a suburban is even worse as now i started at 10 in the morning and here it is 6 at nite and got half the dash put back together
Brad Hedrick Yes they have similarities. Keep it up man you'll get it
I have a couple of cans of Grizzly Wintergreen on my pop/soda can holder too. Do i remove them?
I was able to get the heater core changed using your video. Now when I initially start my truck, park is highlighted but goes out after about 3 seconds, I can go through N,D,3,2,1 and they highlight. When I go back down from R to P neutral highlights for about 5 seconds then goes out and P never does highlight, which would unlock the doors. Did you experience that problem Lucas?
Thanks for taking up this cause and putting out great info, bro!
no problem. hope this helped
great post!!! thank you!!!!
Evan karkinen very welcome!
thank you very much!!time at 4:21
You only smell it if it’s leaking. Have to feel hoses if it’s clogged.
Ok so if it's wet on the right side floorboard it's the heater core. What if there is water on the driver's side floorboard? Am I to assume that's NOT the heater core? Thanks.
Thank you!!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!!
Any tips on the air-conditioning system. Im scared!@
in order to change the heater core do you have to dump the AC gas?.
Great video! Thanks for making it! My heater doesn’t work but there’s no smell which makes me think the core is okay and some electrical wiring went bad. The fuses are good, do you have any recommendations? At least before I take it to the shop lol.
Nick,
1:do you have any loss of fluid?
2:does your temp gauge in the dash show accurate
3: does it overheat or stay cold?
-just because there's no smell doesn't mean the heater core is good...
These model Chevy's also had a common problem with the climate control switches. Its a lot easier and cheaper to change as a first step
Lucas Bradshaw
No fluid loss, temp gauge is where it usually is, does not over heat but I need some oil.
Nick I'd start with what fuses went bad then try the climate control switch.
Lucas Bradshaw thanks for the advice! I already checked the fuses and tested them with a spare. Not that. So I'm really hoping that it's just a problem with the potentiometer behind the temp dial.
excellent video. keep up the detail. any advice on g6 gt for blower motor only working on highest setting? great video man
check12 thismicon
thanks, I'm trying to help the broke DIY guys like myself.
As for your G6... it's a GM. buy a "replacement" control panel (or knob... I'm not familiar with your specific dash set up, but you can email it to me)
It's very common for GM climate control panels to have faulty/weak solder points. don't go to a junk yard because chances are you'll find another bad one. shop around like carparts.com or rockauto.com or even ebay... Google is a mechanics best friend
thanks a million for the reply
check12 thismicon no problemo
Resistor
Great video
Did your truck also leak antifreeze
do you mean other than in the cab? No. I replaced the water pump, hoses and thermostat a few months previous to this.
Man you better not have to go anywhere soon.
Thanks for these Videos they where very helpful in the replacing the header core in my Truck!! You could how ever stressed if you are not a drinking man than you should not attempt this alone LOL!! Was wondering if you or anyone had a link to buy the dash for the 2002 Chevy. Thanks again!!
No seriously!! 😂 I'm tryna do it by myself rn and struggling like a mofo!
Thank you sir!
Woof, glad l have a 1994. Gr8 video
I hate being cold too. From Canada.
well, that doesn't help. eh?lol
When these leak the factory should buy the damn truck back cars from the sixties had an access plate in the firewall you could do a heater core in half an hour this kind of design is totally unnecessary bullshit
the dealership (stealership) makes money off this design. or people trade in and they make money.
Is it safe to drive before fixing it
as long as you connect the 2 hoses in loop, yes it is
If the blower does not come on, does it also mean the heater core is bad too?
No. If the blower doesn't come on you probably have a bad controller. Common problem
My actuator is bad but my heater core was already clogged and I had to flush it out so why I'm in there I my well do both and my well customize my dash and paint it like I want seems like a big ass job my truck is a 2001 and only has 120,000 miles really good condition so worth fixing but can I do it lol
it s me ...:( ...i turned the heat on tonight and my windows got all fogged up with that stupid film and the smell of coolant, everything smells like coolant. i checked the passenger side floor and saw no leaks. i know that just because there isn't a paddle of water doesn't mean that the heater core is not the cause ...anyway i think this job is just too big for me. i will watch the rest of the videos anyhow... i hate chevys...
This sucks. Your video helps.
thank you for all of your support and input I greatly appreciate it if there is any type of Maintenance or any questions that you have in regards to our new body style Chevy or even older Chevys please let me know and I will try to make a video about it thanks again
Hey bud in watched the vids for the heater core several tome I seems to always miss it do have to disconnect the ac refrigerant lines or the ac at all
yes. it's 2 13mm bolts. i briefly mentioned it but didn't record it
Thank u sir I really appreciate your videos best I have been able.to find
I am trying to locate the hot-cold - which appears to be behind under glove box under left passenger side vent ♦ broke the upper cover already getting face-plate off and have cover under steering off and will attempt glove box removal ♦ camera shake and hick-voice is not as important as seeing where everything is as there are 4 or 5 of these drive motors then for outside air selector I can just roll the window down if I can get some heat so 895 dollars for 8.95 is wrong and greatly appreciate any attempt to help ♦ seems I might be able to disconnect the hot-cold selector and manually move the blend door to summer winter settings manually if I can get at it
Damn , I have a small leak and it can keep on leaking lol
You know it’s a bad job when a 10min how to is only part1.
no joke... trust me, I wanted to quit after the first part too
3:15 I sure don't miss that blinking yellow light on the instrument panel 😵
the security light? it was annoying but goes away once you start so i got over it. but yes it is stupid
@@lucasbradshaw2545 My 02 would engage the Passlock every few days. Left me stranded everywhere. 😆
@@hmata3 oh that sucks
This the most difficult repair on the Silverado. Best to abandon the truck with the keys in it.
with all the other work i put into it, that would not be a good idea. everything was new or rebuilt except the vin number lol
This is difficult for most vehicles.
You should do the same repair on a german or japanese car, that's way worse
haha thats funny. my 2001 silverado rules!!! i'll jus pay the shop instead.
Good video and yes it's a pain in the ass but if you would have taken the setting wheel out and loosened the bolts on the column it comes all the way out and you could clean and paint all that nasty stuff in there. All the metal is rusty, Sharpe and ugly. Costs $5. Well worth the time. Or you can continue to do it like a hacker. I like to make stuff just a little bit better than it was.
Shut up Stupid
5:39, What she said: Two knuckles deep
You're not a maintainer... *heavy sarcasm
Hey I have a couple questions I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 v8 it runs extremely rough at idle or first start and then when I drive it's fine but it's so rough that my aftermarket exhaust rattles what could be the problem I cleaned the throttle body I replaced spark plugs and wires and I'm about to clean the maf sensor. And my heat doesn't seem to work that well but I don't smell any coolant and my passenger floor board isn't wet what could it be?
james tumbleston
first, I have to ask you a few questions...
Do you have a Service Engine Soon light? what are the codes?
By "after market exhaust" is it a full system, cat-back or just add a glass pack?
watch a few of my other videos. I show how to trouble shoot rough start/idle. unfortunately, it could be anything from O2 sensors, fuel pump, intake and or exhaust manifold gasket to as simple as a bad injector
james tumbleston as for your heat... try to change out your climate control panel. they're extremely easy and cheap and go bad quite often
I'm having this same issue. thank you. a quick fix is flushing the coolant
Gabe Ulrickson
sure... if you don't have a leak.
grizzly dip in the cup holder
Joseph Melchor damn straight... and coors light in the cup holder
Lucas Bradshaw yeah Buddy
I'm needing to kno if this all applies to the 4.8 Silverado 1500 single cab 4x4????
the only thing that matters is the year... if you have a NBS (new body style) like mine, then yes it is the same. best way to tell is to look under the hood. there should be 2 hoses that go straight into your firewall on the passenger side
Thank you great help
this applies to all NBS chevy's with some exceptions for trim level etc
Oh shit handle 💯😂
Dude get to the POINT! Sorry man not to be a duece, but I'm all jacked up on RedBull! I can't handle all the chit chat! ... but hey your still better than the guy you mentioned in your video! Instead of talking show us how you did it! Damn dude!
Figure it out yourself bufoon
Imagine doing this in a BMW
There say to pull back the whole dash to get to heater 2008 silverado.
This is a bad joke. You cant convince me, GM couldn't engineer a simple heater core that would mount on the engine side of the firewall. I'm tearing out my entire heating and air as my heater core and ac compressor are both bad. Then I'm buying a 67 f250.
I turned on my defroster and it started spraying AtiFreeze and water!
that sucks...
I would take it in to a shop - to many little clips and screws.
Como quito motor de aire acondicionado no enciende troca 91 cheyene 4x4
Crap I'm having this issue...
It's worse in a lincoln town car
This chick is NOT looking forward to attempting this on her own. As a matter of fact, this is going to suck worse than having no heat in almost November, in Michigan, driving my truck 7+ hours a night for my job... 🤦♀️
Young man.U didn't finish
If you are going to listen to this nonsense..... Watch all his videos before you start. He has you pulling stuff then in later videos he tells you he found out it wasn't needed.
well, I hope people watch the whole video before attempting this.. that's always a good start.
sorry you got so irritated.
Never once did i say i was an ASE or Chevy certified mechanic. Never once did I say I had experience doing this exact thing...IF YOU WATCH ALL MY VIDEOS, I say that over and over.
Being your average guy, middle to low income, half decent with tools, I had a problem that would be very expensive to pay someone else to do. The only reason I posted this was to maybe help someone else, like me, with what i experienced. judging by every other comment, you're the only one that's butthurt
a thumbs down would've sufficed.
Well said Lucas
@@lucasbradshaw2545 even a certified mechanic who's not familiar with the vehicle would struggle on this job, to many little hidden screws, clips and you don't know what needs to come off for sure, that guy is a chode for thinking mechanics is just a simple task, I thought you did a pretty good job.
@@Zach-ju5vi thanks... if he "watched all my videos" he would've heard me say multiple times that i am not a certified mechanic and that if it doesn't need to come off i would let you know...... oh well, some people are just salty
Shut up Stupid
Man up and put a coat on
You talk waaaaaaaaay too much young man. Sheeeeeeeeeesh !!
You say “uhm” and “uh” a lot.
uhm.. cool story bro. good thing i didn't pursue a career in public speaking
The grass is green and the sky is blue. Dont forget the sun is bright.
@@lucasbradshaw2545 Lol butthurt! hahaha
Why does it matter? Leave him alone. If it bothers you that much, don’t watch his videos
To many talk 🤦🤦🤦
Go back to itt tech
Rudy Vasquez i did th same thing fuck this maniaco 😡😡😡
Shut up Stupid
Little too much talking, talk as you work so viewers can have a detailed clue to what you are saying as you are showing your work so they can learn what to do a lot easier and do the job a lot quicker!
Jaime fuck you, you sat and watched this video entirely so suck one while you're watching and it will go on quicker!
Shut up Stupid
Stop talking and you would get done dumb ass
