I've been focused on becoming an Actuary for roughly 5 years now and am a Junior in college about to take my first exam for the career. Thank you for sharing the wages, especially the difference among places of living. The Actuary salary is a confusing wage as there is so much room for each independent Actuary to grow due to the increase in wages as each exam is passed. This is definitely a motivating video for me as it means all my hard work WILL pay off very nicely. Thank you!
I’m currently doing a bachelors in finance and economics with Chinese. Trying to study for a fluent level chinese exam, afterwards I want to go on to be an actuary and hopefully move to shanghai or Singapore
That was really interesting and informative. But there are experience Actuaries with broad experience making half a million and some share equity as well in their organizations. Can you make a video which tell us how much Quant/Financial Engineers make?
One of the weaknesses of Bureau of Labor Statistics and Robert Half data is that it only covers salaries. Equity, Stock Options, and bonuses are ignored. The data is still better than Indeed and Glassdoor. All of that is survey data (no controls). Would Quant/Financial Engineers be Software Engineers? Or maybe Mathematicians. I will look into it.
Thanks for the info. Much of the information should have been qualified though; Wages adjusted for cost of living living and historic gains for inflation. Without qualifiers it's less meaningful.
Hello, my school does not offer actuary science degree。 do you think a accounting or a mathematics degree can help。 which one better for exams mathematics or accounting?
CareerWatch thank you very much ! I think my school has applied mathematics in bachelor degree. Right I got double degree in Business administration in AS and mathematics in AS both can transfer to four year school for my bachelor. I have to choose one major to do first.
I want to go into actuarial science but the school that I go to doesn’t offer that major. I am however, an accounting major and I have received a full ride to finish my degree. What should I do if I am not getting into debt because of my accounting degree?
I really think that it’d be a great idea for you to just finish up that degree because it’s a BIG BIG opportunity to be able to graduate college without a debt. Also, you don’t need a Actuarial science major to become an actuary, my major isn’t actuarial science even though my college offers it. You just have to be able to self-study for the exam and pass about 2-3 of them in undergrad and really focus on getting some kind of internship experience either in summer, fall, spring. If you are worried that your self-study skills might not be great it’s good to find out while in college and not after majoring in it because you need that self-study skill when you work full-time. So it’d be best to start studying for your first exam and see how you like it and if this route is worth it for you! Also, having an accounting degree could help out if you end up working as an actuarial consultant in companies like the Big 4 Pwc, KPMG etc...
Hard to know the bottom. Using 2018 numbers: 10th Percentile: $61,140 25th Percentile: $76,720 This definitely depends on the region, industry, negotiation, etc.
CareerWatch thank you! I will really consider it. Thats already more than what i make now. I have a bachelors in Accounting (from 2007 unfortunately) and have been in the healthcare field these past 7 years
calum harper hey I was wondering about the exams, not sure if you know much about them but there are 10 exames all very hard and taking around 5yrs to do, are they worth? How do I get paid?
Actuarial work is an excellent career choice

Would an economics major help me become an actuary one day?
It’s good but also need a lot of math/ statistics courses . Some finance courses might help too
Was inflation rate taken into account in the increase?

How much do they make a month tho
Im guessing these are salaries for fully qualified actuaries. Whats the salary for a beginner with only one exam under their belt?

@@MANLETofPEACE Yes, Actuaries do pretty well. Good luck! Never easy changing careers!
Can you get this job with a marketing degree?
very unlikely, you really need a maths based degree as a minimum

if i'm from Mexico, can i work there?
It's possible, but won't be easy. It is challenging to get a work visa right now.
