Chris Boom No not everyone should be treated equally, you act different to people even if you don’t realise and you do that because it just feels right to you. Some people don’t deserve to be treated the same as others, in my eyes you should always be given as many as logical (in your situation) chances for sure, BUT it ends somewhere and that’s the moment you are treated differently AND fair at the same time! I agree that everyone should get equal chances and opportunities, not exactly treated the same! This is just my opinion tho

the thing with the “would you raise a boy/girl differently” is that it’s equity not equality. equality is everything being exactly the same but equity is it being how it needs to be to better suit the individual. if i had a son i would teach him to be respectful of everyone, but to not let anybody tell him it’s okay to harm/upset women just because of gender. just like i would teach a girl it’s not okay to be rude to boys. but i would also teach her it’s not okay to bully girls for looks. it depends how you look at the situation.

Yeah, that's how I see it.
Equality is treating every gender exactly the same (Which is actually extremely unhelpful because depending on your gender, you WILL have different needs and experiences in this world)
Equity is making sure you're doing your best to accommodate all genders so that they're all at the same level.
Like a very hypothetical example of Equality vs Equity would be making sure all your kids have access to tampons- except your son doesn't need tampons so it wouldn't make sense, so you should be giving all the tampons to your daughter instead of your son. Or making sure all your kids have binders- except your son and daughter have no need for them while your gender non conforming child does, so you give THEM all the binders.

Say one day you call everyone for dinner and as you are an organisation which supports every religion equally you can't serve everyone PORK on their plate. I think there is and there will always be a misconception on what feminism is.
When I think about feminism, it is not necessarily being a radical protester, it is at least someone who acknowledges women have come a long way to have equal opportunities as men.
Just like asking a non white person to not be racist, why would you be against your own rights?

      * screams * I said what I said because a lot of people use the excuse that babies can be adopted as opposed to abortion. The fact is that not all (I would even even argue that most) children have the luxury of being adopted into loving supportive homes. So putting a blanket statement making it appear to be absolute is extremely misleading. I didn’t once say or imply or believe that children in foster homes would have been better off aborted. BUT what I do believe is that no one should be able tell anyone what’s best for their life if they were to become pregnant.

The experiences I had in foster care were traumatic (severe sexual abuse/rape and emotional abuse) and the system did not support me during those times and then when my foster parents kicked me out at 17, I had NO support. I am now 23 and I am struggling to pick up the pieces of my life and I now have no living biological family and no longer have foster parents in my life. I am struggling so, so much and I am all I have. I inherited illnesses from my mother, I have PTSD from my childhood abuse, I can not work and I am struggling to study. I KNOW I am a burden on the system and although I am grateful for my life, I know there are many others like me. And I know the pressure it puts on society. And I know how hard my mother struggled being faced with the reality of having to give birth to a child she did not want. I often believe I am the exception when it comes to foster kids being swallowed by the system and turning into nothing because I do not want to be a statistic, but my GOD the obstacles I have had to overcome don't seem worth it for all the damage that the forced birth of me caused. There are MANY reasons why someone can not have a child and many more reasons why someone would not be ok with putting a child into foster care.

@Juliana Silva Actually, the question literally said 'EVERY woman SHOULD be a feminist'. That's not really the same as 'I want more women to be feminists'. Of course it was worded provocatively due to the nature of the video and they maybe just meant the latter, but I get how she came to her conclusion. If you were to go through with that statement, you would actually have to force some people.
Also, the sentence they used implies that people should have a certain opinion solely based on their gender, when according to my personal definition of feminism (as there are different kinds of it), gender should just not be important at all and especially not the only reason for someone to do or think something.

    • @melonitastic
      @melonitastic Pƙed 5 lety +31

@Juliana Silva Actually I think the last part of your comment is really interesting, because it kind of sounds like you're looking down on women, who do not consider themselves feminists/like you are mad at them? Do you believe they are undeserving of the rights they have, because they are not fighting for them themselves? Correct me if I misunderstood your tone, that's always really hard over the internet and English is not my native language.
About your question: To me, the sentence 'Every woman should be a feminist' just implies that. As I have said in my comment, I think that statement is different from 'I want more women to be feminists', which is the phrasing you used. I also would like more women to be feminist, or at least not look down upon other feminists, so that the movement would be stronger. But the word choice 'all ... should be' just has a certain connotation to me. As I said: If we were to turn the world into one where that phrase is valid, meaning a world in which every woman would be a feminist, it would, as of right now, mean to force that role onto people, when in my head feminism is about not forcing roles onto people, as I said, based on gender.
But I see how that could be interpreted as linguistic pettiness, which maybe isn't appropriate since I am not a native speaker.

And I know a f*-ton of women.
All the feminists I encounter are *humanists* -- with compassion being the underlying thread. There's a bizarre misconception online that being pro-women necessitates being anti-men, and it does not.
Also, the amount of issues that women suffer (typically at the hands of men) is *staggering.* I understand that men have issues, too. But women are, by and large, the victims. Of unspeakably violent, terrible things. *Let's take a moment to acknowledge that.*

Ian, the question was "do you believe abortion should be legal?" She stood in the "somewhat disagree" line and, yes, said its "situational". She said only in cases of fatality, and rape should it be allowed.
      Ask yourself this:
What if someone is being manipulated or coerced?
      What about sex trafficing?
What if the mother is underage?
What if there are no financial means to bring this child into the world?
What if the child is to be born with multiple birth defects?
What if the parents do not want to pass on certain medical genetics?
When the government has historically AND CURRENTLY policed reproductive justice, how can you trust them to make choices for birth? Who decides that the reason you want to abort is just?
As a WOMAN, how can you EVER trust that a man would believe you if you went to an abortion clinic and told them you were raped? Especially, as this woman is, a Black woman.
Sure, some people probably use abortion as a source of birth control. What was their sex education like? What is their access to resources like doctors, hospitals, or contraceptives?
