    Look real close at Train 595 @ Port Royal. The third unit #2677 is the first loco we see in Part 1 this series!

    There's something very hypnotic, almost ASMR, about a long, uniform train like the coal train at the beginning rolling rhythmically past

      I agree, that's why I felt that some coal trains would be a nice change of pace. Thanks for watching.

    I never knew that anthracite coal was found in all those other parts of the world. Thanks for the research.

    You mentioned the discovery of coal in the region as being in Pottsville. Actually, it was 40 miles west, on Broad Mountain as you correctly state near the town of Loyalton in Dauphin County. This is stated in the Lykens-Wiconisco Bicentennial booklet. It also states the coal was shipped to Millersburg rail line and canaled to Harrisburg on the Pennsylvania Canal. This (flat iron) rail line was the 4th constructed rail road in the county.

    Trains magazine Feb. issue, page 26… Eric Williams story and photos. Johnsonstown to Altoona, NS line. I don’t know which town you are filming from but I figure you live in Pennsylvania. Interesting history on coal. Thanks AC. 😊

    Is that actually Anthracite in those hoppers?

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  Před rokem

      Negative. Bituminous. The coal in those hoppers came from Shire Oaks in Southwest PA. The old Conrail/Monongahela lines.

    greetings from the UK!
    i'm afraid you're history is a little awry.you say that the Great Western Railway (or god's wonderful railway as it was nicknamed here)used Anthracite as it's loco fuel.'fraid not..GWR locos used Welsh Steam Coal(bituminous). i think the only time a British loco used anthracite,was when "King" class No.6000 came over to the US in 1927 for the centenary of the B&O,and then the crew had to work out how best to use it in the Belpaire(pronounced Bell-pear)firebox! for the last 25-odd years of my working life,i was in the opencast coal mines of South Wales. Apart fom that,great video,with an SD70ACe(my US favourite)as first loco you see. all the best,and please keep 'em coming..👍

      Thanks for pointing all that out, if true, then the source material was wrong. Much of it came from Wikipedia.
