I went there today with some friends. It was super neat, I love going in abandoned places around Erie it’s sad to see but also so beautiful. This is a neat location I love how it’s right on the bay. Unfortunately everything in this video was torn down except for the smoke stacks. There’s still a little bit of the building left to explore but nothing comparable to building in this photo. Most of the remaining building is flooded but it was without a doubt still very fun to explore, by far my favorite in Erie.

Working there during the summers put me through school. This is the first time I've "been back" since the early 80s. Trip down memory lane for sure. Thank you for the video.

For a time in the late ‘90s I lived on Euclid Ave downwind from International Paper. I can still smell that old mill. It was a constant odor of chlorine and dead fish.

I grew up in Erie, Pa - born in 1952 and left when 17 years old after getting out of high School. I appreciate the time taken to create this tell-it-like-it is video. It's as creative as the "Twilight Zone", and, for people my age who grew up in Erie it's all too real. Please consider what the video shows us - NAFTA and the oligarch/corporate control of our government. A system that buys and controls politicians who allow this to happen in order to distribute money to a relatively small amount of people and abolish the new deal. Disclaimer - I belong to no political party. The last time I went to Erie Pa for a class reunion, it made me cry at how ruthless our economy has become.

That is the Hammermill power house and stacks, the only part of the mill short of the office building left standing in Erie today. I toured the plant in the mid 1990's, and it was spectacular to see in operation. Very sad to see it gone from Erie.

So sad to see what happened to Hammermill and many other companies. My dad worked there for over 30 years during the 50s 60s and 70s.

I love the place spent many nights there thinking watching the lake the basement is awesome it is such a shame to see all that American industrial no how wasted. Very spooky seen and heard things no one would believe which is why I love the place I know every inch and would navigate lightless a lot of times loved to see someone else take a interest it is a shame about some of the graffiti I don't think this country will ever realized what we lost till it is to late go at night maybe totally different but don't go alone like I used too words can't explain it is like something out of a movie sincerely cheeks the gingerbread man

Thanks RJ. My grandfather worked at the mill for his entire life. I was quite young when he retired and never had a chance to visit that I can remember. To the best of my recollection he was a pipe fitter and while viewing your pictures I studied the pipes...and wondered. Thank you.

The whole lower east side, along with Lawrence Park and part of Harborcreek had a sickening smell from the paper mill. Never could stand to go down there because of it.

It's owned by a development group now I think. They are trying to get businesses to develop there but there may be to much enviromental problems and cleanup both at the plant site and across the street which is an empty field now. Sad, was a great place to work. Spent a lot of time in the Power House. Couple of coal fired boilers, one gas fired boiler, and a boiler that burnt bark taken off the trees that were used to make pulp for making paper.

I think the only reason the Power House was left standing was the expensive cleanup so it was cheaper to leave it standing. Their excuse for leaving it up was that the smoke stacks were used for navigation by boaters and ships. International Paper came in and bought the paper company with the end result being to close it and take the name. They succeeded. Sad.

Thanks for the film. I wonder who owns all of what you filmed? I'd like to dismantle the plant and strip to the walls, sell everything that might be worth anything? To pay wages to workers doing the dismantle. Film demolition of smoke stacks, sell film rights and film to pay for the demolition. Sell the bricks to pay for the clean up. Pay all the workers minimum wage for 40 hrs of work.
Better than sitting at home. Who owns all that stuff? Thanks for film. How recent?

That place was an eyesore and lots of bad smells and the biggest polluter of Lake Erie...I'm so glad its gone now.
