Quick Checkmates from Single Blunders - GM Ben Finegold
Vložit
- čas přidán 13. 01. 2016
- Grandmaster Ben Finegold spends a short time on many games where a player blundered and lost several moves later. See if you can solve these mate problems faster than the class. You must be at least four years old to answer!

"That's nothing to sneeze at that's a good move"
loved u in big lebowski dude
lol, is this really steve buscemi?
No
@@klodm.2064 i laughed so hard at that, and was going to post the time, but you beat me 2 it 2 years ago fam
I’m a child and I sneezed. No?
"And my student for 5 years."
*cuts to blundering queen*
Ringing endorsement for you there, Ben XD.
"Anyone know what my excuse was?" -- "It wasn't my turn to move!"
The kids won't ever forget Ben! That's the kind of teacher who creates love for the game in kids.
😂
No one gets his jokes but he says them every time. They are all the same. The sarcastic jokes. We love you Ben. Keep up the good work.
I don't get his jokes either tbh, I be watching like "Wtf is he TALKIN' about!?!?!" but I keep watching coz I'm interested in his theory lol
@@russellreal I can't tell if you're being sarcastic; I am laughing almost every time at his ingenious jokes
The audience is made of children.
I get his jokes everytime. I just don't laugh because I don't think they are funny at all.
Maybe he's just not funny
"let's call a random student", always Arjun
Whoa.. is his name "Arjun"? I thought it was "Argian" or something.!
Makes me laugh every time.

lmao
I love how he says "it's too risky" when the kids want to blunder a piece, I feel like he wants them to keep the window open for when they're ready to learn sacrifices
No one gets any of the jokes, which makes it funnier
"That's nothing to sneeze at!"
+cmdrfun1 17:52 ;-D
He's so quick with the jokes. That sneeze joke came within a split second of the actual sneeze.
i am german - i even don´t understand the german jokes ??? - are there realy german words in chess???
Ja, Zugzwang ist ein weiteres Wort, Akobian nutzt es z.B. häufig.
oder "luft". deutschland prägte das schach sehr.
10:00 Ben says: "King i8" and all the kids go crazy lol

13:58 "Checkmate's good because you win" - The most important thing I learned today.
"You're the best player in your chair!"
😂😂😂 relatable
he says 1921 right at 1921, 19:20
Dude.
We're all living in a fractal, a fractal, it is fractalbar.
Seriously well spotted
It always amazes me what people see when there are thousands of eyes on the same thing... all research should be done in teams of 10,000 researchers
Wow
This is the best video ever because GM Finegold, showing his superior knowledge, says 1921 exactly at 19:21
Amazing.
damn that's cool
Arjun will be a GM
+Kalle George Yeah I saw a comment saying he was only 6. He will go far.
Any update on this?
@@Michael-uw6vi He's not a GM but is classified as an expert and actually has at least one video uploaded to the channel where he teaches about 12 type of endgames everyone should know how to win or draw with
You are 1/3 correct, he has a different last name and plays for India!
It's all about the Benjamin's. Finegold is a good teacher lol!
Puff Daddy ft Kim
Ohhhh. I played Carlson the other day and now I know my mistake. Being down a rook against a world champion is bad.
jmarkellos
I played carlsen last week
At the endgame he was down 2 rooks and a queen but he checkmated me with his king
+Ji Delgado chess set was rigged
Uhhh! I hate when that happens
Noooo...you were down all pieces except the rook and that's TERRIBLE
@@maverickm44 rooks are extremely powerful in the endgame. Don't doubt a piecies power
People at home saying what is th one o'clock class?? Ben, you mention it in every video, we know exactly what the one o'clock class is!
+Alberto One time, the one o'clock class was recorded because we thought you'd like to see it. Afterwards, we were like, "Why did we record the one o'clock class?"
+Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis please upload that too !
it will be fun
+Satadhi Halder Upload the past consensus reaction to something that happened a while ago? What?
+Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis terrible. *Looks up, shakes head*
suspicious !
I've been watching Ben classes for years now, I don't care if it's for 400 rated players or 2000+. I love this guy, he's an amazing teacher and personality. Take care Ben, we need you to continue making chess fun but interesting!
As someone who hopes to have a 4 digit rating someday, I've been watching many of the Saint Louis beginner videos. This one was particularly entertaining and informative. Thanks to the Saint Louis Center for making these videos publicly available.
four digits??, did you get harpooned through the brain as a kid?
@@stopwritingthatreplyjohnat6638 You got me with your account name. I thought for a second there. Also, I thought the base chess rating was 1500
@jqbtube 1000 FIDE is stronger than the average amateur
Hey Ben, perfect advice "never play f6". I just came home from a tournament, where I won a game in about 20 moves, and my opponent actually blundered quite badly by playing f6 on move 10 or there about.
Master Hand < Crazy Hand < Giant Child Hand
Giant Child Hand for SSB5. Do it Sakurai.
What about wall master??
The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Ben Finegold at Stockfish levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a game depends solely on color. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide FIDE ratings.
what about a flush?
I used to play chess a long time ago and fell out of it for some reason. Watching Ben Finegold has got me interested in it again :) I got a chess app a week ago in hopes of rekindling my love of the game and looked up offensive openings to give me the spark I was looking for. I bounced around several lecturers on CZcams and almost called it quits until I found Ben Finegold. With a personality like that, it's hard to watch any other lecturer on chess! I always lose interest after a couple mins but I can watch Ben for hours. What a guy!
Logan
If you're starting chess again,I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with tactics first if you're looking for really sharp openings since it would require a really large amount of calculation. There's a grandmaster in this channel I'd recommend for that.Look up GM Alejandro Ramirez
and his video Tactics Training Session.
The tactics there are absolutely gorgeous and you'd learn a lot. That is if you're really willing to go back to chess.
This. Ramirez is the best ''serious GM lessons'' while being a very likeable person.
9:49 - the first time I've seen one of Ben's jokes fall on truly appreciative ears. Kids are cracking up. Ki8 or Ki7.
He forgot about Kg9
Arjen (however you write him) needs to get a girlfriend named Tina. She's Arjen-Tina then. Ben would love that pun!
Read the bhagavad Gita bro, arjun is the main character
Your pun game is good. Ignore the others
No llores por mí Arjun-Tina
"Giant child hand in the way!" Savage.
that last checkmate got me there...felt dumb when finally saw paw equal knight #....
jqbtube Bit of a tit aren't you?
watching this makes me wish I was a kid in that class. You're a good teacher, Ben Finegold.
I get every one of his jokes, and I laugh out loud all the time. Totally hilarious!
17:50 girl sneezes "that's nothing to sneeze at!"
He _is_ really good!
I could listen to this guy talk chess all day
But this was in 1987, and Barney the dinosaur hadn't existed yet.
Which is strage because dinosaurs existed a long time ago.
Anyway, so there's no "I take you, you take me", there's none of that.
I TAKE YOU, YOU TAKE ME
WE'RE A DAMN CHESS FAMILY
Ben you know your a great influence when you ask them a question and "All about the Benjamins!" is the answer you get. lol
Never seen a checkmate like that last one!!!!
The feared giant hand :'D
An entertaining lesson, as usual.
Ohh yes, Ben Finegold
+Kehkioishii ps. I put my chips on that one kid who is intuitively calling the right moves without realizing why they're good
+Kehkioishii same he might be a future GM and he can also move the pieces easlily thanks to his hands :D
Arjun is a genius tbh. He might not realize it but he is. And he's hilarious.
Thanks CCSCSL for all this videos with GM Finegold!! =D
And also thanks GMM Finegold for the always funny and instructive lectures! =D
"See you're the best player in your chair.." after coming up with an amazing mate-in-one. Hahahahah

“My knights retreating like a Frenchman”
Bruh 😂😂 the jokes get makes to a room full of kids that just go right over their heads are hilarious
Poor Matt, losing during the lecture, tough I tells ya'!
LMFAOOOOO!!!!! The end of this video man hahaha...... What a boss....
Ben you were in Novi Sad in 1988! i had 5 years then i was watching tournament with my dad maybe i saw you !!!!!!
Superb. Best chess vids on the net.
+Joe Davies The only comparison are Yasser's vids.
Is the live chess game in this old video still being played live? I have to know, this is important stuff and I can't figure it out. XD
This dude has dad joke on lock
More Finegold :D
thanks for letting me know there was a giant child hand in the way, i would not have noticed
I don't even play chess very often but this dude rules. I wish this was the guy throwing jokes and math problems my way when I was a kid.
"King to I8...Wait is it I7?? "
You gotta love this guy
We know exactly what the one o'clock class is. That's when Pat Buchannan plays F6 and then resigns to Mike Kummer, then they go out and eat Froyo with a fork.
“Which non of you got by the way” this man is more than gold... he is a fingold
is the last game really finegold vs carlsen?
I really enjoy these videos. Benjamin Finegold is amazing.
Why can't we see Ben Simons and other people often addressed by him in the videos? Let us know
who the students are.
Shyam Das Ben is the camera guy...
Ben should go down in the chess hall of fame. He has helped so many of us enjoy and get better at the game
I love you, Ben
In regards to the Capablance game at 22:41. After Queen B2, what if white plays Rook C8???
+MrJoshAbbott Qa1+ Qf1 Qxf1 Kxf1 Rxc8 Blck is up a rook.
A good video.
This guy is freakin hilarious xD
27:36 "queen b4 what? Nice"
what is the one o clock class??
TY !
What software do you use for analyzing games?
This is too funny. Please post a video of the one o'clock class...
Wow I admire how Ben has patience to explain kids captures that don't make sense like exchanging a queen for a knight... Other teachers just yalk about the main things
this guy is hilarious
"his excuse for everything he wasn't born yet" 😂😅
It's all about the Benjamins lmao
Grandmaster Finegold (showing the proper respect) - please could you recommend one or two of your favourite chess books for an intermediate player with very suspicious openings? Love your videos by the way. Can't watch anyone else without falling asleep now.. I know I'm missing out because of the bias.. Stop being so entertaining. It's not fair on the other lecturers! XD
Ben is the hell of funny guy! X-D
30:48 He is never right, that's solid looollll, Ben is great
Great
The hand in the way was an improvement.
What does Ben mean when he says next week is his last week at the chess club? He's not actually leaving, is he???? Please say "no"!!!!!
+SteveRunciman Moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I think. Terrible!
+SteveRunciman He has a residency in Charlotte for a few months. Ben will be back.
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ben gonna be back! I'll just re-watch his old videos until he returns.
+Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
He's back, and he commentated the recent Juniors championship alongside Aviv Friedman and Alejandro Ramirez.
at 24:12 queen to C2 was one way to defend it but then black to queen A1 then white queen to C1 and then black rook to D1 is a force mate
"it's all about the Benjamins"-. Random kid
Lolol that got me rolling hard
9:50 was a good one :D
Never would I ever have thought about knighting the pawn...
at 14:31 black can just play knight f6 and block that attack almost entirely? Am I missing something with that move? Why would black play pawn h6 over knight f6? Thank you if anyone sees something that I don't.
Bishop takes rook a8 for free
what comes after Qe3 defending against the fork in 29:35 ?
'' his excuse for everything, he wasnt born yet ''
I didn't get the joke at 23:40 about "luft" please tell me!! I'm dying to know it
Santiago Morales The German airline Lufthansa was going through a massive employee strike around that time.
thank you so much !
Ben is hillarious
Ben - I had a good excuse
Kid - it's all about the Benjamins?
Good answer
Every one of Ben's comment section is filled with the quotables in the video.
14:40 black needs to play knight f6
Ben rocks! What if he stay in Charlotte for good?
At 24:30 there is Qc2 for white, ending the attack and giving time for an escape square for the king.
Are you trolling? He's down an entire piece!
...Was that game really against Carlson?
awsome
One of these days I'm going to offer GM Finegold time odds.
I'm going to disguise myself as a little kid, and take this class. I would be awesome. I'd get the answer to questions he didn't even ask. I'd have my hand up the entire time, and sometimes I'd pump it even higher and go "Oh oh oh" when I was desperate to show that I was smarter than the other kids.
29:30 what if Be3, I mean I know white can play Rxd6 and win a pawn but it would still be possible for white to draw if he plays correctly right?
If bishop e3 then queen d7 and when bishop takes the rook, then queen takes the pawn at b6 with a check and then takes the bishop.
oh right, I am an idiot :D
"Discovered attack fork......" ".... Everyone's happy..."
Except for the spoons.
''Everybody has a king'' my favourite game of chess
BILLIONS OF HANDS!!!
Brilliantly funny guy
19:57 -- "His excuse for everything: he wasn't born yet."
Hodor: Hold the door!
Giant Child Hand: Hold the camera!
Ah, would be worth to point out to the students the possibility of (after Capablanca's Qb2) Rc8.
+Dimitri Andreou After which queen b1/a1 check, queen blocks, queen takes queen check and after king takes you take the rook for free, right?
+Ville Räsänen right
Rc8 would work against the 1 oclock class.
very suspicious
After Qb2, ...Rc8 is risky.
i feel like arjun. Where's the nine o'clock class?
At the position at 22:50 would rook D3 be a solid move? If rook captures white then queen can recapture and also be in position to defend at F1. If black queen takes on E2, rook on D3 can take rook D8 and checkmate.
not too solid, simply Qb1 check and white loses all of his pieces
Hahaha I love the trolling 😂
