I was definitely compared with other kids growing up. I hated it. I felt like my parents never appreciated me or what I was good at.

It’s an awful feeling to be constantly compared to someone else who is “better” than you. It’s even harder when parents do it. Because they are the people who should love us unconditionally.

I grew up with great parents. Even though my dad was busy my mom was always there for my brother and I. I consider myself to be really lucky that we had good parents, but I can see how toxic parenting can really traumatize children.

I think these days with parents being immersed in social media, these things can happen so easily.

The way we communicate with children, especially using negative statements, plays a crucial role in shaping their upbringing and development. Children absorb and internalize the words spoken to them, which can influence their self-esteem, behavior, and outlook on life as they grow older. It's important to be mindful of the language we use and strive to foster a positive and supportive environment for children to thrive in.
