  • Its time to bring out the shine on these beautiful Golden Calcite that grow in fossil shells & clams here in Central & South Florida. This process is called trimming or etching the crystal. Enjoy the slideshow and thanks for your support!

    I find this stuff daily. I've had whole shells completely crystallized now I found out how to clean them

      Hopefully you'll see a big improvement in those pieces you found. Especially if its the Florida calcite

      The fascinating thing is that the acid doesn't always bring back the shine on all calcite ( as I have tried a few), but does work great on the ones from here! Good Luck. There's always mineral oil when all else fails...

    • @crystalminerrocks6122
      @crystalminerrocks6122  Před 2 lety

      Are you referring to before or after you swab the calcite with the uriatic acid? Also, this acid does not bring out the shine in all calcite varities as I have tested on a few from different localities throughout the US and abroad. It works wonders on the Florida variety as you see in my video. Try a dab of mineral oil to bring out the lustre out if the muriatic acid isnt doing the trick.

    Hey! how or what do you use to remove the calcite/rock like texture on crystals like Fluorite?

    • @crystalminerrocks6122
      @crystalminerrocks6122  Před rokem

      I have not had to treat Fluorite yet, so I dont have good feedback for you. of course the muriatic acid will dissolve any calcite, but I dont know if it will remove the luster of the fluorite crystal face if exposed for too long so yoy're going to want to test on a scall section to see if you like the results. if the coating is not calcite, you may have to use a textile gun or drimmel, or something more mechanical to blast it off. good luck

    Hai provato con l'aceto? Io tolgo le incrostazioni calcaree che ricoprono i cristalli di calcite. È più blando e si può immergere il minerale direttamente dentro.

    • @crystalminerrocks6122
      @crystalminerrocks6122  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No. Dovrebbe anche funzionare, ma forse richiederebbe più tempo. L'acido muriatico diluito è abbastanza istantaneo. A volte immergo l'intera faccia del lato cristallizzato se ha senso e ho fretta, ma mai i pezzi interi perché non voglio che il guscio assuma quell'aspetto ceroso.

      @stefanoalpe9813 Před 8 měsíci

      @@crystalminerrocks6122 Sicuramente ci va più tempo, ma per la mia esperienza, posso dirti che non lascia quell'aspetto ceroso di calcite acidata.

    Will this help clean some honey calcite that has hard clay dirt that doesn’t want to come off

    • @crystalminerrocks6122
      @crystalminerrocks6122  Před 2 lety

      Yes, but it will disintegrate the calcite. Try rustaid or diluted ironout mixture on a small piece or section to see if it will loosen/soften it a bit. This will require frequent check to see how well it may be workin gover time like 1-2 or more hours. use a wooden shewer to poke the clay to see if it is softening. even apple cider vinegar may be an option if you dont have the other 2 but it is the weakest in strength.

    • @lorisatter9147
      @lorisatter9147 Před 2 lety

      Thank you, I read vinegar could dissolve it so was hesitant, I’ll see about getting some you mentioned and just dabbing on and not soaking

    • @crystalminerrocks6122
      @crystalminerrocks6122  Před 2 lety

      No I am not since the dab of acid is so little. I just rinse with water. what you suggest will certainly neutralize any acid residue that may have escaped the water! Certainly no harm.
