I have family from Mexico City and when they moved to Texas they couldn’t believe how they could walk places in the US. When they would walk around in Mexico City they would have to make sure they’re not wearing any jewelry and even still then there were times when they got mugged. 😅 I don’t know if that’s just the area they lived in but it is interesting. I don’t think they lived in a bad area though because they do have money.

Two things foreigners never seem to get is that 1 America is freaking huge, and 2 areas in America are very different. Where other countries have a few differences between areas, America has 50 states and while many can share similarities, they can have just as many if not more differences. Just crossing one state border can be like crossing into another country sometimes. Hell, with the bigger states like California and Texas going from one end to the other is like going to a different country.

The fact that Americans drive everywhere and not walk has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it's safe. There's a long and complicated history on why driving trends in the US are different than most other countries and most of the time it has to do with city planning. A lot of America was built after the invention of the car, a lot of countries where it's not the norm is because of how old that country is and how stacked like rats people are in highly populated areas. They aren't designed for everyone to own a car. I feel like most of the information these guys have on the US is from other people's opinions who've never lived in the US. As someone who works in the entertainment industry in clubs and bars I feel like if you feel unsafe walking around a city at night then it's most likely your own preconceived fantasies and prejudices making you scared and not based on reality. In every large city there's going to be a few blocks you should stay away from because of poverty and addiction but these aren't places where you would go anyways unless you really really and I mean really cheaped out on a hotel because there's nothing around those areas but gas stations, liquor stores, pawn shops and gun stores. Also, why would you ever go to San Francisco? The most gentrified areas are going to have the highest population of homeless which means the highest levels of theft and petty crime. Stay away from dumps like that. Just stay away from CA in general to be honest. These guys forget that every state in the US is like a different country in Europe. If you got mugged in London you wouldn't say that you never want to live in Germany because of it. That's absurd.

@@jmiquelmb Well, I have never been to NYC, but all I have heard and seen in media is that not is a safe city in terms of crime rate. It's not even in the top 10 safest cities in the US.
NYC is really hugely populated for one city so it's obvious it will have a huge crime rate. Mexico City also has a huge crime rate, but just like NYC is hugely populated for one city. Mexico is the most populated city, obviously, it will have more crimes since there are more people within the space they occupy.
By the way kind of weird, but NYC is #45 in the world and is the most populated city in US (But at the same time not so weird since US land is so freaking huge but I thought NYC had way more populace). Mexico City is #6 in the world ( Not very surprising, ever since the Aztecs, Mexico City or Tenochtitlan has been a city recorded with some of the highest populations in the world throughout history). Mexico has half the population of the US and its land is very big (Not US big but still big).
My point has been in hugely big cities, there are usually big crime rates (With some exceptions like Tokyo because at the moment Tokyo is considered the biggest city in population and around # 3 in safety, kind of weird that China and India do not have it #1 in population in cities but then again they are pretty big in land size and also they have #2 and #3 biggest and keep having other cities in the top list).
