Where the Dress From ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Was Found After 50 Years

- A dress once worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" has been found at a university in Washington, D.C. The dress, which was given to the Catholic University of America nearly 50 years ago by actress Mercedes McCambridge, was recently discovered in a box inside a trash bag. Matt Ripa, who works for the school’s drama department, said he’d been looking for the dress in 2014, when another, now-retired professor found it, and placed it in his office, according to a press release by the school. #InsideEdition

Why y'all have light mode on
Imagine the persons surprise when they realized what they threw out.
Seriously. Even if it wasn't the dress from the film, it would still have value as a true vintage piece.
And i would probably be that person beacuse i would never know how valuable this clothing could be
But remember the dress disappeared so that person could of been the said person who stole it or perhaps worked with said person whom forgot where they placed it, either way it should of been turned in years ago. Thank goodness it was found. Makes me wonder if said friend even had Judy's or the studios permission to gift it in the first place.
it was in the closet
@@hourglas39
No, it wasn’t stolen. The woman in question had received it from Garland herself, who then gifted it to the university. At that time around the 1950’s-1960’s it was common practice for studios to either throw away props or give them away to cast members. And the dress was found in a trash bag in a box in the archives of the university basement.
Now they can pair it with the ruby red shoes!
And Basket
And totos remains :)

One of her kids should have that, but I can see why they wouldn’t want an article that represents their mother’s traumatic childhood.
True is was very traumatic
Wait what happened ?
What happened?
@@fireyouth7081 what happened?
@Busy Bodies! Nope she was a teenager. Judy Garlands upbringing at MGM was very traumatic for her. I don't believe there were strict child labor laws then. Judy was working non-stop since she was a child; acting, singing, dancing. They also demanded she lose weight even as a child. They would only let her eat soup, gave her drugs as a child to lose weight, be more "up" when she was tired and pills to make her sleep etc. Just google her childhood /life - it's all there. Very sad and messed up what they did to Judy. Even as an adult they treated her badly. Also, apparently the munchkins sexually assaulted her.
Too bad Judy Garland can't be here to host her opinion on the dress being found.

Can you guys stop constantly bringing up all the tragedy in Judy’s life. She was actually very proud of the Wizard of Oz. She hated being looked at as a tragic figure. I’m not saying that what happened to her was OK but I really wish you guys would stop making that her legacy. She would’ve never wanted people boycotting the Wizard of Oz. She always wanted to be remembered as somebody who brought a lot of joy to people, which is why her children refuse to talk about her in that tragic manner, because she never want it to be remembered like that (her daughter Lorna has said that countless times). If you really want to honor somebody you honor them the way they wanted it to be remembered for and I find these comments very disrespectful to Judy and her Legacy. She would’ve never wanted to be remembered like this. She would’ve been so proud to see The Wizard of Oz become the classic that it became. But seeing people constantly want to boycott it because of her “trauma” is actually going against her wishes. So I really wish you guys would stop. I’m a huge Judy fan and seeing people choosing to remember her like this is making me really upset.

The most iconic movie artifact of all time, in a trash bag. Talk about a diamond in the rough.
i learned the history of this dress from a woman who owned a vast collection of old movie costumes. there was more than one blue and white checked pinafore and white blouse made for Judy Garland to wear in the movie. there is not "one" costume, but several. the woman i know owned one and it was on display along with an authentic pair of ruby slippers from the movie, (and scads of other costumes!), at a fine diningroom in Pittsburgh, PA. i worked there. every costume was authenticized by industry experts. so this find isn't as incredibly rare as it's made out to be...it's not the only identical dress that was used in the movie...which really does make sense.
Ok this makes sense because I swear I saw this dress at the museum of pop culture in Seattle in 2017
That dress needs to go in the Smithsonian along side the ruby slippers.
YESS
Not me thinking this was the first movie ever made as a kid.
Makes you realize how tiny she really was! That looks like something that may have fit me in elementary school - those itty bitty white sleeves were baggy on her. Ridiculous that she had to endure so much bullying from Studio Execs about her figure.
Baggy? Wasn't that just the styling? Much like Anne's "puffed" sleeves in Anne of Green Gables?
She was 16 and 4ft 11in. 🥰
@@kelliintexas3575 shes talking about her weight the directors made her take drugs to stay skinny and to stay awake
@@lovelytt5409 Nope. She was not required to be "skinny," just not as developed as she was; her weight loss regimen included hiking and swimming with her stunt double Bobbie Koshay. And as she only worked for four hours a day on the movie and was a bundle of natural energy, she needed no help staying awake.
