Shame you're not breeding your own replacements I always liked the thrill of seeing what they turned out like we always found you could never buy better than what you bred on a side note your vet looks a very capable man
As somebody has said already, my biggest worry is buying in tb to the herd. I know blood testing can make it a lot safer now, but still a threat. Apart from that, totally understand a "flying herd" situation, therefore more milking cows. Good luck with it dan and ps- still got my vintage thursday massey mug lol
Very good result, my concern would be TB if you were locked up and couldn't buy any replacements, and of course not breeding them lovely shorthorn and loosing out cow lines.
Interesting video Dan 👍 how have the cows handled birthing Belgian Blues 🤔 heard a few comments that due to their size can be hard on the cows, will the calves from now be sold on as stores or do you intend to fatten a few yourselves 🤔
I had a very successful sexed semen season last year. Usually expect and need around 35 replacements for a 160 cow herd. All maiden heifers and a set number of dairy cows served to sexed Holstein from Jan 1st to calve from October to before Christmas. Sexed means far fewer Holstein calves needed [we don’t need males]. However it all went wrong these last four months and I have 60 Friesian heifer calves being reared. So if you want top notch calved heifers in two years time, they’ll be here and there’s 30 for this Autumn being served just now. I will not need them because within six months I shall have gone out of milk production. Another one bites the dust.
But get cows for milking Saving labour and feed Buy ten cows milking cow Second calf for good teats buckets of milk for Calf's before school and Come home best clostridium for calf go To France she's lovely Heifer hope know mother😂 8:15 Second ca
Great video Dan. Enjoyed watching 👍🏼
I prefer the videos theat involve machinery, but it is quite clear that a lot of thought goes into the decision making regarding your livestock.
